Freshness and fair price is the key here. I love the service too. And I can order in advance and pickup at the shop

Due to packed weekend schedule, I was out looking for something to eat. In Koreatown, that…read moreshouldn't be an issue but when your craving something to grab and go, the options are quite limited. I have been eyeing Yama for quite a while and this past Monday, I was able to find the time to go! Yama Sushi Marketplace reminds of stepping into a Japanese Grocery store. Snacks lined the center of the store, while hot food, pre-packed sushi line the wall. There is also a traditional counter on the right for sashimi and fresh fish cuts. Let's talk food, I got some assorted Nigiri ($11), Salmon Nigiri ($11), some 2 packs of Chicken Yakitori 2 Skewers per pack ($4/pack), tea, and soda. It all came out to $40. Though I don't normally like to pay that much for lunch, I didn't regret it one bit. The sushi tasted so good and fresh, while the skewers were hot and meat tender. Paired with the soda it make my lunch such a nice treat. Parking can be found for free in the facility located in the back and underground. When I visited, there was a lot of parking so no issues there. If you would like to eat there, there are some small tables set up outside for you to enjoy your food. I will definitely come back again as they do have bento options, which after this last visit makes me want to be a regular. Cheers!

Okay, so this is unfortunately only my second time coming here, and now that I may be moving to…read moreNYC, I seriously wish I'd made it to Tangaroa more often during my 5+ years in LA. This place is such a gem! The menu is on point. From the octopus salad to what might be the best Peruvian ceviche I've had since actually being in Peru, and the best part, it's all incredibly fresh and sourced from New Zealand; this place is a must-try. And considering LA prices and the quality and freshness of seafood coming all the way from New Zealand, the price point is actually really great. The service is also amazing. Clark is incredibly knowledgeable about the menu (and just great in general). You can also order platters to go ...they'll prep and shuck everything for you, or provide everything you need to do it yourself, which is my preferred route since I actually love shucking my own. Net-net: an LA gem and an absolute must-try. And then probably try again...and again. Enjoy!

Their happy hour menu is very reasonably priced and we ordered the dozen oysters (chef's choice.) The waiter also took the time to indicate to us which oysters were which; even though it's the chef's selection, we got a nice even spread of several different types. The oysters were a revelation, each type different from savory, briney, sweet, delicate, but each one was bursting with freshness and truly a delight. The salmon poke was also incredibly fresh and delicious - and discounted on the HH menu! Lastly, I don't usually comment on house wine, but their house bubbly for the day was very good too!
