Inner Strength Pilates & Barre - Our Adelaide Pilates Reformer Classes are brilliant for increasing your fitness & toning your entire body!

This is a long overdue posting but I wanted to leave a review for women in Adelaide looking for a…read morefun and inspiring way to change their bodies and find that great lift tone and burn without the arduous task of going to a boring gym. Let me preface this review by saying I am a San Francisco based Pure Barre teacher and I was seeking a barre studio that would allow me to continue my practice during one of my many trips to Adelaide. I tried what few places were available in the area and out of studios that I tried Inner Strength Pilates & Barre studio had to have been my favorite. Maybe I am a bit biased because it did remind me of my own barre studio at home, in that it had high energy music and a quick pace that allowed you to build your strength while of course getting your heart rate up and providing good cardio at the same time. The teacher was motivating (even though it was early in the morning!) and although the class was only me and another women she handled the small size well, being particularly attentive of our form and technique (which of course provides the best results). The terms did seem a bit dance heavy which could be intimidating to those (like myself) with no dance background and little to no rhythm. But fear not! because those are simply the terms they use to help set up the exercise, the actual work requires no dance background or rhythm in the slightest. The best thing about barre is it is fun and distracts you from the pain of working out. Instead you're lost in the music and the motivational cues from the instructor and before you know it the class is over and you're already thinking about the next time you'll be able to come in. The next day I felt delightfully sore! Two weeks of regular classes I'm positive you would start to see results. I only wish I had gone to a few more classes because I can imagine that a full class would have wonderful energy. It would be nice to see some kind of package deal for regular clients. Perhaps an autopay set up that provides unlimited classes for a discounted rate. I would definitely be signing up for that right away! (Plus when you're paying a higher price for these classes you're always more motivated to go regularly and get bang for your buck!) I also really regret not trying one of the pilates classes. I am a regularly client of a reformer studio here in San Francisco and it would have been great to see how those classes compare too. I guess this just gives me another reason to check the studio out next time I am in Adelaide. Coming from an area where the boutique fitness studio market is WAY over saturated it sometimes can be difficult to find a studio that is up to par with the many offerings we have in SF. However, I am confident when saying Inner Strength Pilates stands out a league above the rest.

I started with this studio when they first opened a few months ago. As an individual who loves to commit to a strong exercise regime, barre encompasses my love of pilates and it's benefits, with a promise of getting my heart rate up and burning even more calories. (You will seriously sweat - this is no lie!). The location is perfect for Western suburb's rollers like myself, and is the first studio of it's kind down this side of town. The studio is brand new with a simple and modern layout and plenty of windows for natural light - adding to the overall calming and relaxing Zen-feel. A range of classes are offered including standard barre classes each day, a stick variation barre class, a technique class for beginners, stride which encompasses some light interval running with barre, pilates and yoga. With plans for more classes in the future, Xtend is building a strong following. The instructors are all fantastic. Each have their own specialities, and there is no doubt you will find your favourites amongst them. Management greet you with big smiles, and it's great to be consistently provided with friendly and helpful service. Furthermore I highly recommend trying the studio's unlimited two week trial for new non-members. It's a great inexpensive way to figure out if barre is for you and which times and instructors suit you and your needs. You may find a new love for this unique work out. I've personally found barre a fantastic work out which has greatly assisted me in my rehabilitation from having deep vein thrombosis. I still get fantastic results and can keep up a reasonable fitness level by undertaking a lower intensity workout. Letting the instructors know of any injuries is extremely beneficial, as you will find they will give you loads of support and always provide alternative options for certain exercises to those who have injuries. Consistent commitment will definitely provide you some proud results even if you are like me and are forced to come to the realisation you will sadly never have the coordination of a ballerina EVER; and whilst you may think you look like a graceful Swan at the time, appear closer in reality to a challenged penguin. But don't worry, there is hope for some plié-inspired buns of steel instead. And who doesn't want a perky toned butt?! Makes looking like an uncoordinated penguin justifiable. (Tip-Just try not to look at yourself in the mirror during class).

I walk to work, and the studio is about five minutes away, so I can't speak to the parking situation. There are currently five different types of classes offered at the studio, plus occasional challenges or extended workshops. I love the variety, and that I can take classes before work, at lunchtime, or after work. Routines change every month, and each instructor puts their own twist on the routine, so if you go to multiple different classes you get a really nice variety of different styles of instruction. Everyone is knowledgeable, friendly, encouraging, and keeps me coming back for more! I have seen a noticeable change in my body, but most importantly it gives me a great place to clear my head and reboot a little bit. Ending with meditation is a real game changer. You also stretch throughout, so even after I have worked myself to exhaustion in the class, I never walk out feeling very sore. It's pricey, but worth it, since I keep going! I don't think it's more expensive than Pilates.

I'm a 6.30AM attendee so parking is never an issue - Rundle Street is eerily calm, quiet and empty at that time. Instructors are fabulous especially Alicia and Klara who are my favourites! There are three different class types don't be fooled Blend can be as hard as Burn. Content of classes change regularly, seems when you master one release you are on to the next. It is important to note that you must book into classes, there is no just rocking up. They have lots of different class times and an excellent iPhone app for booking classes - particularly useful for booking in at 5.45AM when you jump out of bed and decide you want to get to the 6.30AM class. Class ends with a healthy juice shots from Sowelu Naturopathy and you are ready to hit the ground running. Barre all excuses and give it a go!

My partner and I signed up around may-June. With nothing but hassle. The person that signed us up, named Riley (who has since been fired for fraud) told us nothing about signing up to a lock in contract. We only were told once the late payments happened. I went in to settle the account and also gave this Riley boy my details over the counter to then still get charged late fees and my details had gone into thin air. After expressing my frustration they told us there isn't much they can do, the fee is around $300 to get out of the contract and we can freeze our accounts but it's a $5 fee each week for both of us. Mind you we have then got an email saying that from 8/7/25-1/09 we won't be charged anything and payments start again on the 4/09/25. Keep in mind we've been over charged for late fees that wouldn't of been charged if my bank details were taken and done nothing with them, also in the "free of charge period" I was charged $60 in different transactions. I've gone in today with no help. I'm getting asked to repeat parts of the story that don't matter like that I told them I never really wanted to join but got roped in by this Riley person. Irrelevant to the whole situation? I've also somehow since the payments starting again on the 4th of september weve been charged $151.43 which im not sure how any of this adds up. What would you do, I have tried to get in contact with the regional manager whom i had to seek out her details if correct as they refuse to give me the details to pass on the matter.
