Xpress Radio (87.7 FM) is a student radio station run by students at Cardiff University, from a studio and editing suite on the fourth floor of the Students' Union building on Park Place.
It's been running for 15 years now, and aims to provide student listeners with decent music and up-to-date hourly news plus information on issues that are important to them.
During the daytime, there's usually more mainstream content such as chart music, competitions, features and general banter - then after 6pm there's more specialist music, whether it's jazz or new, emerging talent. On Sundays they have some talking radio - with political debates, comedy, and so on - from 10am to 3pm. Then at 3pm there's a student chart countdown compiled by a collaboration of various universities across the country.
For journalism students at Cardiff, and particularly those studying broadcasting, the radio station provides an opportunity to gain some practical experience and something to stick on your CV - although volunteering opportunities are open to students of all disciplines, not just the journalists! read more
