Other stations decide to use this peak listening time to presenting mindless babble, when all I want is a few tunes to get me home quicker. I do agree that the talking on Heart is just as bad if not worse, I tend to just tune into another station in between songs. The other real good point is that they are a local station, so you get the travel news relevant to you, and during our recent snow crisis I used their website to find out which buses where running and which roads were closed. I am a fan. If there gave me a t-shirt - I'd wear it.

I was on here once, and had a great time in the studio playing live and being interviewed to tens of people... It's such a shame that the actual programme is actually broadcast at 1am on a Saturday night, who's going to listen then? At least you can listen again.

You're probably familiar with the BBC Introducing concept because of its Radio 1 incarnation hosted…read moreby the likes of Huw Stephens. Basically, it's a platform for discovering and broadcasting new and unsigned bands inspired very much by the work of the late John Peel. Many local BBC stations have their own incarnation, as does Bristol with a show that goes out every Saturday night between 1am and 3am (you can also listen again online for a week if you're doing something more interesting with your weekend evenings). The formula is simple, with alternative sounds from the likes of Kid Carpets and interviews with local bands and promoters. They were ridiculously taken off air for a while recently when, in the wake of Sachsgate, they accidentally played a song with explicit lyrics (at gone 1am remember!), but after much deserved protest, they're once again giving exposure to small local bands who wouldn't get it elsewhere, and for that we should be very relieved.

I spend a lot of time in my car, and it's such a breath of fresh air compared to the commercial nonsense that's pumped of Radio 1, and don't even get me started on the other local stations - they're not worth the time. Ujima, though, is a gem of a radio station. Playing an eclectic mix of styles, from reggae, soul, r'n'b and hip hop all day long, their presenters vary in confidence and proficiency. Some are very good and sound slick and well experienced, whilst others take a bit of bearing with - but I don't see this as a bad thing at all, rather a nice reality of what this community station is doing for its local area. The station is based in St Pauls, just off Portland Square, and advertise local events and nights that are being put on. I just love getting in the car in the middle of the day and hearing some reggae on the radio - it does just the trick to chill you out at work. Tune into 98fm, you won't regret it.

'Great Music, Great Chat, Great Opportunities'…read more Off the back of the reviews by Jon and Lisa I tuned into Ujima on my way home for work last week - the music was great in places, I'm really not a fan of radio chat at all and theirs was below average, but that does seem to be redeemed by their involvement in local events. 'From Bristol with Love' is their next planned event on 3rd March at the Metropolis to raise money for Haiti. Whether they play your kind of music or not you have to admire their determination to represent and involve the African and Caribbean communities in Bristol, I think they are gaining momentum and are well on their way to meeting their aim of becoming a flagship radio station. It's…read morelargely talk dominated broadcasting hosted by DJs who aren't talented enough to get on national radio (and that's bearing in mind that Chris ****ing Moyles can get on national radio). I'm listening now to check if it's really as bad as I remember and there is currently a debate going on, the two main topics being whether you have ever dumped toxic waste, and if you had Fu Man Chu moustache would it dangle in your soup. It's all a bit Alan Partridge, though that was actually a comedy whereas I can't work out if this is supposed to be funny or not. Awful.

Radio Bristol is Aunty's offering to the city and not much better than the rest of what's on offer. On any given tune-in your likely to get the strains of some obscure record from the mid 1970s. They claim to play modern stuff, but I'm yet to hear anything beyond the eighties. If you aren't greeted by music then you may well get a slightly nasal DJ trying to entertain you with limp jokes and just plain odd discussions. It's a bit Bristolian, but not in a good way, more in a slightly inbred, country bumkin sort of way. They have traffic reports, that's about all you'd want to tune in for. BBC Radio, as I've come to expect of local radio, disappoints.

Available on 97.4 and 103.2, Red Dragon FM is a South Wales radio station which plays all the hits…read moreof the moment. This is great if you're between the ages of 8 and 17, but not quite so great is you mind hearing the same songs playing over and over and over and over... No, to be fair, Red Dragon is not nearly so bad as some other station where they literally play the same 20 songs, at least here there are requests for older songs, so you'll occasionally find yourself listening to a bit of a gem. Train's 'Drops of Jupiter' springs to mind. Who's that tutting in the back? Red Dragon FM are very involved in the local community, looking through the galleries on their website showed a massive amount of local events that they've been a part of. They are also very involved while on air, with local listeners forever honing in for competitions or other random involvement. Anyway, this is the kind of station you might flip on while you do the housework or might have to listen to while in work, but it's not going to speak many words or wisdom or enhance the culture in your life.

If you go down to Cardiff Bay and visit the Atlantic Wharf centre, then you're surely in for an entertaining time, or rather your children perhaps really are... A five star radio show; it has competitions, quizzes, phone in call sessions, guess the song and singer games, they have the local news updates, traffic and weather updates, they go out and about locally, they know their gossip about the arts and entertainment world and often help with charities. They are very sensitive towards their audiences, polite and caring. They also have a website. Which is full of games: news, competitions and of ways in how, if you should so wish to, to get in touch. You can watch them speak in their attractive studio of a station. I recommend for all teenagers, and young adults from ages; 12 - 30 year olds, preferably for those who live in Cardiff or Wales.
