S4C is a Welsh-language television channel broadcasting more than 80 hours of programmes a week, all specifically aimed at the Welsh language community.
Funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, its programmes span a variety of topics including live national events, sport, music, news, drama, entertainment, children's content, culture, rural issues, and lifestyle topics.
Most of the programmes broadcast on the channel are created by outside, independent television companies - many of them also based in Cardiff.
Sadly, a lot of the content on S4C's website is woefully out of date. They talk about how in 2007 the channel will receive a grant of £94.4m from DCMS - only three or so years behind, then! Flicking onto the channel itself on TV, many of the programmes also seem to be a bit stuck in the past.
Apparently, the S4C Authority is currently reviewing all the channel's activities, and as part of this process they are welcoming views from individuals and organisations to help them prepare for the future - so now's the time to ask for change if you think S4C needs it! However, the consultation could well be over now, as this information was gleaned from their website, which means it could well be very, very out of date. read more
