21/100 I didn't know…read morewhat to expect when walking into the Animation Academy, but after a half hour lesson in how to draw a Disney character, I walked out with a pretty good rendition of Tigger drawn by my own, two little hands. I'm not an artist, but the instructor made drawing so easy that anyone can do it. They take you through step by step, using basic shapes and strokes like triangles and circles, and make it all so easy. I can't wait to go back again to see who I get to draw next.

I came across this place on my most recent visit to Disneyland/California Adventure over Thanksgiving break. Since the lines for all the rides were horrendous, my boyfriend and I tried some new things in the parks that were not rides. The Animation Academy was the highlight of the trip. There are "shows" every half hour where you sit inside a mini lecture hall and learn to draw Disney characters. There is a Disney animator who walks you through each step so that you come out with a picture that actually looks pretty good! Things move pretty fast so make sure you keep up with the animator and pay attention. Things can go from simple circles to eyelashes really quickly so here are a few things to keep in mind so that you don't seem so flustered during your first visit to the Academy. 1. Get there at least 10 minutes early so that you are guaranteed a seat. People start to line up. 2. When you choose your row, move down all the way to the end of the row and don't leave spaces between you and the next party. They don't have cooties. But most of all, don't be annoying and stop in the middle so that people have to climb over you. You can see everything from the right or left sides, trust me. 3. Follow along with the animator and don't freak if you make a mistake. Erasers are not allowed. If you come to the Animation Academy and follow along, you will honestly surprise yourself with what you can create! We went three times and drew Tigger, Mickey, and Dale. You can ask the guy at the front to see which characters are coming up so that you can plan your visits around their lesson plans! It is basically a free drawing lesson that can be just as fun for adults as it is for the kids. Actually maybe even more fun for adults.

The Art Room had graciously offered to set up a station for the kids to decorate pumpkins - and they did such a great job with kids of all ages! I loved the materials they used, the creativity they both employed and encouraged, and the patience they exhibited with the kids. So when my daughter wanted to enroll in art classes, it was a no-brainer. Of course I was going to send her to The Art Room. Class sizes are small, the room is intimate but spacious, and instruction is personalized and very, very good. She consistently came home with beautiful artwork and learned about and applied new techniques with each class, including a lovely "under the sea" watercolor using salt to create bubbles. She shows demos for different drawing and painting projects and gives helpful critique and feedback on our work. She created easy to follow steps for us to understand difficult cast, face or figure drawings and paintings. She gives amazing anatomy lectures and demos on understading bones and muscles and drawing them. Her painting mathod of starting from big planes and gradually going to smaller planes and details is wonderful and very helpful. She also has an incredible pallette and methods to avoid seeing any dirty colors in any painting. She even helps us find creative subjects for our projects. Each of Alexandra's students create outstanding and at the same time different body of works due to her individual help and attention.

So basically, I am in love with this studio! I have learned so much from Alexandra that no one else has ever been able or attempted to teach me. The area is new to me and I very much enjoyed some of the shops.I am a guy who at one time only had experience eating in South Central Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, Long Beach and the Hub Cities. I do love these cities and I am happy to experience new unfamiliar places like Atwater Village and Silver Lake. Molly was there to kindly greet everyone, guide the children to complete task and behave, teach craft and chat with the adults. I enjoyed being in her class and I enjoyed seeing my little nephew complete his project. You can tell Molly has experience and education working with young children. On the walls we saw paintings and various drawings made by children. We did an Autumn seasonal craft project with paper, wooden wreaths, glue and various other decorative items. They have no-meter warning on Sunday, all other days there is a 2 hour maximum at a meter which can be paid by quarters or credit card, I do not think they accept EBT. Plenty of parking that day and other parking available if you are willing to walk. There is a garden area out back with rocks and a bench and the sun and air flowing in. I enjoyed the experience very much so as did many of the people I met there. I think the price range is fairly reasonable for the uptown people of this affluent area though maybe not for this downtown kind of guy. I do plan to come back in this area and I would highly recommend this place to any Hipster parents who want to keep children entertained for a while and want to help develop their children's vital skills.

The price is a bit higher compared to some nearby places I found online, but it's absolutely worth every cent if you want the best quality product and experience. This was my first time rug tufting, and I can confidently say you're in great hands. Eryn and Jordan made everything easy to follow, and rug tufting itself is very forgiving, you can make mistakes and still end up with something awesome. We came on Valentine's Day for a date night experience, and it was such a great time. They provided drinks and food (not sure if that's always included or just a special occasion), but either way, the food was amazing, especially the lasagna made by Eryn's husband. Seriously, bomb. For our project, we chose to make a rug of our dog, which is considered a pretty challenging design. Even so, they guided us through every step, and it never felt overwhelming. The final result turned out great and didn't feel overly difficult despite the complexity. The experience is about 3 hours total, but they were kind enough to let us stay an extra 30-40 minutes so we could really perfect our rug. We'll be receiving the finished rug in a few weeks once they complete the final touches, and I honestly can't wait to see the final product. Huge thanks to Eryn and Jordan for making our Valentine's date night such a success. Parking: There's a nearby lot for around $10, but I parked on the surrounding residential streets for free.

Armine is a fantastic teacher: simple as that, she transfers her knowledge and passion in a way that it is indescribable. We have been going to their Mother's Day events for the past couple of years and it just keeps getting better. The environment is so much fun. The class is accompanied by wine and small bites; you can literally snack and draw, snack and drink. Who doesn't love that?!
