Initially we went with them because they had said that they would make working with the insurance company seamless and extremely easy. They said they would take care of everything. Oh how wrong that statement was. after 1 month of them doing the initial work John West the owner sent a letter to us saying that he had put a lien on our house for non-payment, he then continued to call, text and email my wife demanding that we pay him. come to find out at that time he had not even sent the invoice to our insurance company or supplied them with any photos of the completed work, so they could cut the depreciation check for us to pay him. It then took him another 5 months to finally give the insurance company the needed information for them to send the payment out. After he sent me several emails demanding to know why this was taking so long, I called my insurance company to find out that all of this. When I sent him an email and then later had a conversation with him on the phone pointing out that it had taken so long because he was not suppling them the needed information. He got very irrational, defensive and insistent that he was now the victim of me "Harassing & Bullying him" he then proceeded to threaten me with filing lawsuits against me with his lawyer. Through an email exchange lasting over several hours he would insist that I continued to owe him varying amounts of money(changing with every email). The only type of invoices he would provide me were with, were jpegs of crumbled up pieces of paper that were scribbled and highlighted on barely even able to be read, (not a PDF as is standard with every other business.) The amount of disrespect, frustration and unprofessionalism we experienced while dealing with John can not be overstated or fully comprehended in this review. Many of my neighbors used him and I have not talked with one of them that did not have a bad experience with dealing with him.

In December 2024 we looked in the attic and noticed the roofing crew had replaced a damaged roof panel as requested in the contract, but had completely boarded over the vent for the bathroom fan. They left the vent hose laying on our attic insulation, which has been venting water condensation directly on our attic insulation. It wasn't worse because there happened to be a valley in the hose that held the water. We dumped over a gallon of accumulated condensation water out, that had been accumulating over a year! They also failed to replace a previously water-damaged roofing panel as requested when we hired them. That moldy damaged panel is still in place. Absolutely unacceptable.

After years of strong winds, the big storm back in June was the final straw for my roof. Lost too many shingles and had too many seals broken to have another "patching" done on my roof. Based on positive reviews posted by members of various local Facebook groups, I contacted Roof Doctor. Response from Chris Olsen of Roof Doctor was immediate. He came out to conduct an inspection of my roof within a day of me calling, I think he might have even come out the same day I called. Chris fully explained everything he found - and in terms a non-roofing person could understand. I provided Chris with the pertinent information about my insurance company. Chris handled EVERYTHING with my insurance company, keeping me informed throughout the entire process. During the few days Chris was out of town, he made sure there was another Roof Doctor representative available in case I had any questions. As one might expect, the insurance company needed more information from what was originally submitted and there were a few hoops that needed to be jumped through primarily due to Chris recommending a total roof replacement. I can't blame the insurance company as part of their job is to ensure repair costs are legitimate so they can keep their payout costs as low as possible. Keeping payout costs down helps the overall cost of insurance for all of their customers. Ever since moving my insurance over to AARP Hartford, I have been extremely pleased with the cost and service Hartford has provided. I started with better coverage for lower pricing on both my homeowner's and vehicle insurance than what I had with my previous insurance company. The damage to my roof needed to be repaired but the roof was still capable of protecting the house until all the paperwork could be completed and repairs made. None of these delays put my house in danger of having the roof leak. During his inspection, Chris specifically looked for any area that might leak and assured me that if we had another major windstorm before everything was approved, he would come out to inspect the roof and would secure a tarp over any problem areas. From experience, he knew that by recommending a complete roof replacement, it might take a bit longer to get the final insurance approval. Once my insurance gave their OK to proceed with the total roof replacement, Chris scheduled a crew to come out. The crew was prompt and friendly. They worked hard and completed a thorough clean up at the end of each day's work. Roof Doctor's goal was to ensure a quality repair for the lowest costs possible. Their final cost figures even came in lower than originally projected. If you need your roof repaired/replaced, you can't do any better than going with Roof Doctor.

Whitaker and one of the others sat with me for like an hour answering all my questions, and I'm a bit like a 3 year old, "why?" "why? "how?"....They were both patient and I would have been happy with either. Their estimates were a gnat's hair apart, both within spitting distance of the estimate I got 4 years ago. In this world of absurd pricing and gouging, these guys remained ridiculously low and fair. I opted for Whitaker based on a good feeling. What a great move!! ON time, multiple confirmations, and honored their estimate. The roof is gorgeous. Hazel would've been proud of the clean-up, and the crew was incredibly friendly and conscientious - they even worked, against my pleading - in the rain!! Here's a kicker. The day they started the job, the office manager knocked on my door and did a 'house call' to thank me and express their gratitude for choosing them.
