Our very tired 1980s kitchen was desperately in need of an update. We finally got around to getting…read morethe abysmal backsplash replaced and the light fixtures updated, but our oak cabinets were drab and dated. We didn't have the budget for a full kitchen renovation so we knew painting the cabinets was the way to go. When we purchased the house, we had the delusion that we'd paint the cabinets ourselves, but as the months went by, we knew we lacked the time or skill to complete the project and had to call in the professionals. 518 Painters was one of three quotes we obtained. We found 518 Painters solely through web research. It did take a couple of calls to hear back, but we soon after we set up a time for an estimate. Juan's estimate was competitive (and he got back to us with the quote within a few days) -- about on par with one quote and less than our highest quote -- and he had sooner availability than the other company. He gave us a date about six weeks out. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication with a start date and an issue with a family emergency that pushed it back a couple more weeks than we had originally discussed, but once Juan started on our kitchen, his communication was excellent. Juan showed up on time every day, bright and early. He checked in every day either in person or through text. He talked to me in detail about the products he'd be using and any concerns/questions I had about them. He sealed off the kitchen in a way that kept our pets out, but allowed us access when needed (a zipper in the plastic drape at the door, so helpful). He was also pleasant to deal with -- friendly and upbeat. He made sure the door was locked when he left each day, and I trusted him in our home. When we realized, unfortunately after the project was complete, that the paint color on the cabinets did not seem right (turns out, paint store made a mistake and provided the wrong shade of paint!), Juan came back and repainted as soon as he could. He took responsibility and made good on his end of the bargain to be sure we were completely happy. Yes, this is the right thing to do, but home ownership has taught me that not every person will stand by their work. Juan does stand by his work 100%. If there's any area of his painting that you want fixed/adjusted, he'll immediately take care of it. He also promises to come back and do touch ups any time there is a scratch or nic in the paint. He cleans up well when he's finished and your home is not left a mess. Further, Juan took it even a step further to make sure that our kitchen painting project looked its best. Painting the cabinets required the removal of a vinyl baseboard the prior homeowners had installed around the island. Since the color of the vinyl would not match with the new paint color we chose, Juan suggested putting in wooden base moulding, and offered to do this work himself (and at no additional cost!). I am so pleased that he suggested this because it looks so much better than what was there before. Having our kitchen cabinets repainted was a big financial investment for us, but I am happy to say that it was fully worth it. Our kitchen looks 100x better. As the project has only just been completed, I can't yet speak to how the paint job will stand the test of time, but for now, it looks great. I am glad we chose Juan and 518 Painters to help us bring our kitchen into this decade. He is truly an excellent choice if you are looking for someone to update your kitchen cabinets!

They said 1 coat of their recommended paint would do it. My wife and I left the house just after they arrived right on time 8am. They used drop clothes and a sander (with vac attachment) and were very neat in their work. They finished the work and left before I returned at 1pm. My wife returned as they were finishing the job just before noon (4 hrs). She pointed out places that they had obviously missed. Brian went over those with a small roller while she was standing there. They didn't have a light on at the time. They also said that they put 2 coats on rather than one and still missed spots. They were paid in full as they left. After they left, I returned home and we found more spots missed where the crown molding meets the ceiling, actually using a light. My 74 year old wife spent 40 minutes up on a ladder touching up the remaining places they had missed, with the small amount of paint they left us. Today (4/30/26) My wife had a phone conversation with Brian during which he offered No remedy Or apology. He said $169 an hour is what a garage charges for your car so their prices are reasonable. Justin let a crook ruin my building (while he was collecting 15% on top of the subcontractor's wage) and then after letting things go terribly wrong he was not not man, or businessman, enough to make things right. I wouldn't trust him to paint a doghouse and if I did I would NOT give him money up front.

Bad mistake…read more I was told that the running line of drops in the paint along the top of the wall with the picture on it, and down the corner in my bath, were because I had, "...sagging paint..". Interesting...because it never sagged before this paint job. I bought top of the line Benjamin Moore paints. On a 6 panel door, only five panels were painted. I did most of the spackle and patch work myself to walls before they came, but I did expect them to check each wall before painting. They did not. the owner of the company is a very personable guy, but was nowhere in sight while his workers were here. Most supervisors will stop by a job to check and see if there are any concerns...especially when no one speaks English. The workers were very sweet, but we had communication difficulties. Expect to spend a lot of money too, as they are quite expensive...especially when you have to hire fixer-uppers afterwards.
