I got the most beautiful tattoo ever from Beeker last week! The entire experience from start to finish was awesome. We had a consultation in September (this is how popular she is - I waited a little over 2 months for my date and it was so worth it) where I told her what I was looking for and she talked about ideas that would work with it to make it even more lovely. I am an avid knitter and hot air balloon enthusiast so I was looking for something like a hot air balloon that looked like a ball of yarn. Beeker explained that a ball of yarn might not look enough like a hot air balloon and came up with an idea to do a balloon with a picture of a yarn ball on it in my favorite colors. As far as the actual experience went, the shop was nice and quiet and clean. Beeker and one of her coworkers were bantering back and forth and making me laugh so hard that I had to bite my tongue to keep from shaking my arm. There was another lovely couple getting a tattoo and they actually bought me a bubble tea! Isn't that the sweetest? Oh, and weird thing to compliment but their bathroom is decorated really cool. And since they are cash only, they are kind enough to provide an ATM onsite. Can't wait to go back sometime soon so that my brother and I can get matching tattoos!!! read more

just don't. i got a finger tat here with joe, line work wasn't good in the first place and in less than a month half of it was faded (that part is sorta expected, i have multiple tats including hand/finger ones so i understand that they hold ink differently). so i go in to get it touched up since i was told that i get a free touch up. im getting it done and half way through he TELLS me (doesn't ask beforehand) that he's using a thicker needle this time, which i didn't ask for, i simply asked him to go over the faded part. the moment it was finished it was clearly blown out and somehow the part that was faded the most was literally still faded. afterwards he told me id have to pay for any more touch ups even though it had only been a couple weeks and half of it was gone (which is fine because i wouldn't plan on going back if it was free). im sure that there are good artists there but this one really didn't give a fuck if i knew what was going on, didn't care if i was satisfied with my tat, and decided to make changes without asking me. it sucks bc a lot of his work is really good but i'd go somewhere that cares more. read more

I consulted with Emma (The Crappen) for a custom leg piece and she was really easy to work with and had no issues understanding what I was looking for. She was also very understanding in terms of pain management and recommended a way for me to finish the piece without being pained too much (due to location of the tattoo). I went back to the shop multiple times to complete the piece and found that everyone there was relaxed, but still very professional. The shop itself is very clean and conscious of their customers' needs like having snacks available, if you start to feel woozy. I knew nothing about tattoos before I came here. I honestly have no idea what I was doing. I can't say that enough; I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING. Well, anyways I was walking around downtown Bellingham - and decided to walk into X tattoo. I met KC who stopped what he was doing (I was really scared because I had never talked to someone in a tattoo shop before..like I said (read my first paragraph, again)). So there I was not sure what to do with my hands, and talked to KC for like 5 minutes while some guy was getting a tattoo. The thing you have to remember is that tattoo artists only make money when they are tattooing, and I imagine don't like being distracted by a guy who just got ice cream from next door. Again, I didn't know what I wanted to get or where I wanted it. I was really just kinda curious! He wasn't mean or even passive aggressive which he really could have been considering I was sort of in the way. He asked me to put in for a 1 hour session where I would bring ideas of what I would like, and he would help explain everything I needed. A couple of weeks go by - he closes the shop. It's just me and him. In my head, I'm thinking that I should probably leave, now. This guy doesn't want to explain literally the most basic things in the world to me at the end of his day. Well we probably spent 2.5 hours talking, and I was really comfortable. Remember, at this point he doesn't even know if I will ever be back. I have paid him NO money. He doesn't know!! But, guys I was so comfortable with KC and have always been each and every time. So, about 15 months later and 8 pretty large tattoos later - I just can't imagine going to anyone else, now. I'm moving pretty soon, and I'm not looking forward to trying to find someone new:/ If you know nothing about tattoos - spend some time with KC. I promise you will not regret it. P.S. Don't say, "how much will this cost?" within your first two sentences to any one who offers you a business service. Not just a tattoo artist...literally, any one. read more

I came here to get both of my nipples pierced. I was incredibly nervous going into it and all of the staff made me feel welcome and at ease. While the jewelry was pretty pricy, you are paying for quality and knowing that it will last you for years to come so I had no problem splurging on it. They've changed their name so many times it's hard to keep up with who they actually are. Loved them when they were Laughing Buddha, that is the only reason I'm giving this review two stars. At Laughing Buddha they treated me with respect and care and even helped me when I had a piercing that had some trouble (from another shop). Once hey became Citrine and X, that all changed. It's turned into a "bro club" culture and I will never return. When I went to them in October after I was having trouble with a former Laughing Buddha piercing they treated me like a child and their condescension was dripping. Oh my God just go here if you need a piercing done. Second time getting my nipple pierced. First time I got it done at Old School and homeboy took foooorevvvver, pretty sure he had only been working there for a few weeks. So it was nice going to Laughing Buddha/Citrine bc: I shite you not, from the time I layed down on the table to the time the jewelry was in was less than a minute. Paul's the best. They even gave me non-iodized salt in a lil packet so I didn't have to go to the store and search for that stuff. (Not being able to swear is really messing me up okk) Also there was a man peddling fine chocolates outside the store and he gave me a little lemon truffle, and after having an effing needle poked through the second most sensitive part of your body, a little chocolate makes it allll better. Pay the $10 more it is here for a piercing. You won't be disappointed. read more

I recently visited Laughing Buddha to have my nostril pierced. From the first time I called with questions to the moment I walked out with my piercing, Chance was patient & informative. As a fairly vanilla 40 year old mom I was a bit apprehensive about a piercing studio, but I was always made to feel welcome & comfortable. The piercing itself was surprisingly painless & I feel well educated about the aftercare. Although I was encouraged to call if I had any questions or problems, by day 3 my piercing looked & felt like it had always been there. The needle was sharp (so it went in easy) and sterile. I came in without an appointment and got a pretty cheap septum piercing. Didn't hurt because he knew how to do it very well! I decided on a whim to get my nose pierced. I had read great things about Laughing Buddha on Facebook and on Yelp, so I decided I would give them a try. First of all, I loved the shop. The front room is pretty small, but I was the only person in there, which kept me from feeling overwhelmed. The staff was so helpful and friendly. They helped me figure out just what I wanted right away. They moved quickly, but not in a way that made me feel like I was being rushed through. It felt more like they were moving to fit MY time table, which isn't something I've usually found with most places. Paul did such an amazing job with my piercing. It hardly hurt at all, and gave me very clear instructions on keeping it clean. They even have pre packaged bags of sea salt for you to mix into a gallon of water. I would definitely recommend him to a friend looking to get something done. The only thing I found that was different than what others had said was pricing. I didn't think it was outrageous, but it definitely wasn't the amazing steal everyone else claimed it was. However, that definitely won't hinder me from returning. read more

I came here the other day because one of my goals is to get a new body piercing for every new place I visit (as long as they're reputable, because I was just in Mexico and I wasn't about to risk that.) Anyways, I got a new helix stud as well as a steel ball hoop for my old helix. My piercer was Colin I believe and he's very friendly and informative. He took precautions when it came to sanitation and took extra time to inform me about why I couldn't get an industrial. I really appreciated this and instead just went with what I know works. Overall they're all friendly and very affordable! The piercing fee for the helix was $25 and the jewelry being about $20 each, or somewhere around that. Their piercing fees change depending on the piercing though, so keep that in mind! The piercing fee for an industrial would be $45! I almost forgot, but their piercing area is separate from the main shop part and very private. I found this a bit different and liked it a lot. Of course, I've never had a public piercing or tattoo because they usually have their own rooms. This was just very unique to me. read more

Got my nostril pierced yesterday after thinking about it for 23 years. They were busy, but able to give me an appointment within an hour of walking in. The piercer, Chance, was very nice and professional. He explained every step of the process. Chance also spent extra time repiercing an earring hole that had healed. Excellent after care instructions. I am happy with the result. I did not price out other places, but I'd rather give my money to a local business than to a chain at the mall. The nostril piercing plus titanium jewelry was around $70 and the ear piercing plus steel hoop was about $35 (one ear), plus a $15 tip to the piercer. I would definitely go back and definitely recommend. (On a side note, I like the stud they put in my nose... it's not the standard corkscrew kind that hangs out the nostril and looks like a booger. I got my very first piercings here (ear lobes) last month and I was pretty nervous. My experience here was really wonderful, the man (I forget his name) explained everything to me from how he was going to sterilize my earrings and all the aftercare involved. The cost of the piercings came to about $85 with a 10% discount applied. So it is pretty pricey, although I am told that you are paying for the superior quality etc. My only complaint would be the selection of starter earrings was pretty minimal, and they were all pricey. That process was fine, but when I went back a few months later (I just didn't like them), the same guy who pierced them was helping me. While he was taking them out he said something about them being pierced badly, then asked where it was done. When I said, "uh...you did it" he quickly backpedaled but it was kind of too late. This also happened a separate time while changing jewelry for a nostril piercing that they had done. I thought they were all really nice and the process of the piercing was professional and not unpleasant, but to have the guy talk badly about his own work was a little too telling. It felt like he was either trying to make other places sound bad by "critiquing" their work, or he genuinely thought it was poorly done (by his own hand). The piercing process was fine, the jewelry is not overpriced for its quality, but when I went in for something other than getting pierced, I would hear a comment about how my current piercings were badly done, even if they did it. read more

I went in and got my nose pierced last summer. The service was fine, no complaints. However, the piercing they gave me is terrible! It's way too low on my nose and doesn't look right. Also, the type of jewelry they use to pierce is extremely hard to get out. I wouldn't recommend this place, there are plenty of other places to get a piercing in Bellingham. Update: I was told recently that the guy who pierced my nose has since been let go. That being said, the overall experience in the shop was fairly good not counting the piercing I was given by the guy that does not actually work at Laughing Buddha anymore. read more

My experience at Citrine was great. I messaged them on Facebook at about 11 asking about pricing for a daith piercing, and got a response almost immediately. I set up an appointment for 2pm that day. Paul was super nice when I got there and immediately got me set up with my paperwork and started setting up the room. Everything was very concise but he still made it enjoyable and fun. His baby was asleep upstairs, so he politely asked my friend and I to be quiet, and we obliged. The process of the piercing was easy. He made me focus on my breathing and told me on an exhale is when he would pierce me. It was quick and less painful than I was expecting. Overall, it cost about $63 including tax for the whole thing. Paul is the real deal. I had my nose pierced two times before going to him and both times had to take it out because of infection (went to that shit hole in the mall and Only Precision in Burlington). My nose only took a few minutes and was painless. I have no issues with my piercing now (went to him first at Evolve). They use the best metals to pierce and the jewelry they sell is fantastic quality. They're actually pretty affordable too; I've paid more for piercings before for much lower quality results. There's not much else to say really; you'd be nuts to go to anyone else. read more

Went with a friend today for her to get her nose pierced and I just got my second lobe pierced on one ear. We just chose the most basic looking stud to start with, but it was 70$+ for each of us. Really didn't expect it to be so much more than other locations we looked at, especially since we got just one piercing each! Service was great and helpful, they know their stuff. We had a great experience here, my 11 year old daughter wanted to get a second piercing in her ears so I brought her in. They were great w my daughter and explained everything to her. I also appreciated that everything they had was titanium as we both had sensitivity to metals. The shop was very sterile and she never even flinched when he did the deed. He let us know that the posts were long to account for swelling and to come back in 6-8 weeks and he'd cut them shorter. My only regret is that I didn't bring her here for her first piercing.
