I tend to be obsessive and typically give the impression of a micromanager. Eric never gave me a chance to micromanage. He was one step ahead of me all the way. Each time he told me what I needed next, I approached each step at the next possible chance and Eric had already taken care of it. The buyer decided on a Saturday mid winter that he wanted to buy the boat ASAP, So at 8:59 am Monday I was on the phone to have the boat commissioned and ready for sea trial. To my surprise Eric had already scheduled all of this. No details missed. Perfect experience. I was even out of the country for settlement and it went flawlessly. The horrible Knot 10 listing broker (Dave Duny) sold out the seller and finally presented a contract for a fraction of the asking price. I invested in a survey only to find that major systems on the boat had been grossly misrepresented. Running lights and anchor lights not only did not work, but the power supply line to the stern light had been cut, evidently to prevent tripping a breaker due to a fault in the line. The air conditioning and heater--advertised as a major selling point--did not work and evidently will require replacement. The autohelm--another major sales feature-was in pieces. The boat had not been fully commissioned and the surveyor had to waste time filling the water tanks to test the pressure water system, which turned out to be balky. The hot water heater did not work at all and had been bypassed in the pressure water system. Several pumps did not work and three of the five bronze seacocks were frozen open, destroying their utility in an emergency. In all, there were 22 survey exceptions, and several bad items were not even mentioned in the survey. For example, the fire extinguishers were ten years out of date, as were the emergency flares Things only went downhill from there. I tried to ask the owner to fix these items and earn the negotiated purchase price, but Mr. Duny refused even to present that proposed contract modification, insisting on a walkaway cash offer. After negotiating generous discounts for me to take on these risks, the final price was less than a third of the surveyed value. Because the boat was not entirely insurable due to several survey exceptions, we agreed that the owner would deliver the boat to me and strictly observe some safety conditions that allowed me to get insurance. There were other minor points agreed to that I wrote into an addendum. When Duny finally produced a contract modification almost a week after the agreement, it only contained a price reduction, with Duny refusing to include the conditions I needed to protect my interests. Ultimately, I was told to rely on a verbal agreement, except that Knot 10's contract form made verbal agreements unenforceable. I wasted four 200-mile round trips to inspect this boat and the cost of a survey that Knot 10 grossly misrepresented before I finally walked away from this disaster. AND HERE IS THE REALLY DISHONEST THING: With full knowledge of all these survey defects, Knot 10 has relisted the boat with the same misrepresentations that were in the original listing. Here is what Mr. Duny's listing says about this wreck in the current listing: "This [bpat] shows really well. This boat has AC/heat and numerous upgrades and improvements." I provided Duny with a list of exceptions noted by a surveyor that Knot 10 recommended, yet these thieves continue to misrepresent this boat. Listing photos are three years old. They show the boat in good condition, including pictures of a newish looking autohelm that was in pieces at the time of the survey. And, of course, the listing does not mention what the owner told me at the time of survey, which is that workmen admitted to destroying the air conditioning and heating while performing recent repairs. Limited space prohibits me from getting into everything wrong with this boat that Knot 10 misrepresented. There is no getting around it, these people are deceitful. I wish that I had read these Yelp reviews before investing all this money and time as well as missing on several nice comparable boats that sold during this three-month ordeal. RUN FROM KNOT 10. DO NOT EVEN CALL ON ONE OF THEIR LISTINGS.

With no sense of how long or how severe the health and economic impacts will be, I requested that my deposit be returned. TommyO (whom I have yet to personally meet) immediately empathized and did not hesitate to assure me that Whalertowne business practices place people first; that's just who they are. As pleasant as he was during the sale, he cheerfully returned my deposit in full. I see what TommyO meant; not by word but by deed. Lou is a great honest guy and did a great job on my 115 Johnson motor. I actually trailered the…read moreboat 200 miles just to give it to Lou to work on. He told me that he had a few jobs ahead of mine and I knew that it might take him a while to get to. Lou fixed all my carbs, fixed the tach, changed my lower unit oil, and the engine purrs like a kitten now. I had taken it before to another guy in Virginia and he never truly fixed it. Also, I asked Lou to set up the fuel system so that I could run the fuel from an external 5 gallon tank so that I didnt have extra fuel sitting in the tanks to ruin the carbs again. I enjoy talking to Lou and I will continue to take my boat there in the future.
