This place is OLD! I mean really OLD. It has been in business at this site since 1895. Needless to say, I felt right at home. If they have been making sausage for 117 years, they MUST be doing something right. The shop is very clean, very tidy and not over cluttered with merchandise. It isn't a big shop, but they sure have a variety of sausage, especially brats. We picked up an assortment of sausages and a few jars of mustard. I will update the review as we try various items. So far, the liver sausage was really tasty. We've been sampling it on crackers and I would get it again. The shop is located in an area that is mostly residential, so there is not a lot of shopping near by, but if you are in Aurora, this is a place to check out if you like homemade sausage and really vintage places. read more

The best homemade sausage we have had outside the German influence I grew up in down in Texas. They are not cheap, but, they are the best sausages I've found since moving here. Service was prompt and friendly. So far we've tried the original, kicker, cheddar and Texas hot link, all fantastic. We've made two trips, and will return. read more

I've so far had the Nürnberger bratwurst and the "classic" bratwurst, and both are very good. I'm also impressed with the selection of condiments, with tons of varieties of mustard and even some curry ketchup (which I should have bought but didn't, would be stellar on some of the sausages) and some jam/preserves. Definitely snagged a jar of gooseberry jam. There's even a nice big Haribo display, although the variety I was really lusting after were the lemon ginger gummies...which were packaged in a box on the floor, not on display. I didn't make them open the box, but I'll be back... The Nürnberger bratwurst is pretty close to what I remember from Nürnberg. I finally had to look up the unique flavor from these - marjoram. It's good to know I've got a source for these close by, because I really enjoyed them whilst in the homeland. And the classic bratwurst are just good brats, plain and simple. An easier source than driving all the way our to Reim's Market, although I would need to taste side by side to tell you which is better. Most of the staff seem polite - there was one young lady the day I was there that was...I dunno, annoyed to be there. Didn't impact my enjoyment of the place really, just kind of unpleasant. There weren't many customers at the time, so I don't feel like I was taking too long or whatever, but I did order small quantities (wanting to eat fresh and not freeze the excess). That aside, there's a ton of stuff to try here, so I will certainly be back. read more

Like every other review I love this place. Went there late Saturday afternoon and while they were out of quite a bit I was able to get the Traditional Brat, Cheddar and Bacon, Jalapeno and Cheddar, Uber Garlic and the Morcan Lamb Sausage. All of them were fantastic quality. We werent crazy about the Uber Garlic (it certainly lives up to its name) or the Bacon Cheddar but thats personal preference it had nothing to do with the quality. The Morcal Lamb sausage was FANTASTIC!!!! I'm Middle Eastern so I know Lamb. The flavor was excellent (and this was the frozen stuff I can only imagine how good the fresh would be). What an unexpected treat. I have been there a few times. The last was on April 13, 2020. I bought Bavarian white sausage, buffalo, elk, venison, bratwurst with pineapple, 3 kinds of jerky, and their spiciest sausage. The quality of meat if awesome. All the sausages have great flavor. The density is far superior then the regular popular store bought bratwurst. How this place isn't available on a national level is a mystery. If you look at the menu on the website there is a huge selection. Some are fresh, some are frozen, but they are all there. If anyone wants to try some amazing homemade sausage and huge variety, this is the place. I'm a hour from Aurora and I can say its definitely worth the trip. They are open during the virus. This sausage is definitely essential ! Cooked on the grill or in a pan, it's really really great. Someone there really knows the art. read more

I visited Wurst Kitchen today or first time ever as just recently discover on Yelp as great place for Brats. I live in Aurora & drove to location to make my brat purchase. I wasn't aware until I arrived it's only street parking, which I was able to find a space. I was hesitant to go inside as I am disabled with 2 prosthetic legs & an arm but saw they had the disabled sidewalk to be able to get to entrance but was difficult to maneuver due to how steep the incline but managed. I entered the store had had to climb several stairs but there is a railing on the right side while entering as well when leaving. I was met by a very friendly young woman & explained this was my first visit after reading reviews on Yelp for brats. Told her after looking at products onlineI waned to try several types so I order 2 originals, 2 Jack Daniels & 2 BBQ. Unfortunately they only had originals & didn't have either of the other 2. She did tell me that Jack Daniels is most popular brat. Therefore I decided to just purchase the originals & said I would return in future to purchase other varieties. I exited the store & discovered the disabled sidewalk slope was steeper leaving that when I entered & even with cane wasn't sure I could get back to my car without falling but extremely slowly & nervous finally made it. In order for me to return I will need to bring someone with me to maneuver the sidewalk. I would love if they offered curbside pickup like so many places offer these days. I am truly looking forward to grilling these brats tonight & expect them to be as excellent as all the reviews. read more

I've lived in the Aurora area my whole life, 30 years. I've heard of the Wurst Kitchen, but never tried their sausages until 2 weeks ago at Downtown Alive. Why didn't I don't try it sooner!?! I had the spicy brat, it was amazing! Yesterday I had a craving for one, so I visited the shop. The shop is located in a neighborhood on the east side, near downtown. The prices are very reasonable (about $10 for 4 links). The sausages were huge! There is a lot of variety of meats and sausages to choose from. Now that I have discovered Aurora's hidden gem, I will never buy store brats or sausages again! read more

I don't know how this place flies under the radar. I stopped there today and the store is sparse with products. Mostly German/Polish condiments. Their sausages are very good. I threw a few on the grill and they were great. I tried the Kicker Brats (spicy) and the Uber Garlic. Both were top notch. You can't get sausage of this quality from grocery stores. The shop is close to downtown Aurora in a neighborhood. Just park on the street and grab some meat tubes. I have Thuringers and Hot Italians in the freeze for later. Mostly fresh sausage but they do have a wide variety in the coolers vacuum sealed for easy freeze. Update: The hot Italians are great, and the thuringers are pretty good but they were frozen so maybe fresh is better. read more

Oh how I love encased meats and this place hand makes over 80 European styles of sausages. The store also has a small grocery section. They have been around since 1895 and after reading about them on yelp I had to give them a try. The store is located within a neighbor. Boy oh boy these guys know how to make sausage. I bought three different varieties and all three were packed with flavor, well spiced, juicy and delicious. The sausages are huge and over fill your typical brat bun. The uber garlic brat is uber awesome! The taco brat tasted just like a taco on a bun and the hot & spicy kicker brat was excellent, next time I'll try the atomic bomb brat. Sorry to all my friends in Milwaukee but these are the best sausages I've ever eaten. read more

I've been eating these brats since I was a kid, over 50 years and they have always been at the peak of brat-dom. My brother came very close to buying this place years ago when we thought a previous owner was going to retire it out of business and we couldn't bear the idea of no Wurst Kitchen brats, but thankfully the current owner stepped up and has done a magnificent job at running 'the' Aurora institution of classic encased meats. I make multiple trips to Germany a year for business and have never had sausages this good anywhere. These really are the best. A kicker and a white combo on a bun with German sour kraut and Lowensenf mustard is as good as it gets. 120 plus years of doing it right! read more

Ok so Happy News years from da Stosh man and his posse! So Anton wants to have da cooksout on News years Eves so we goes to Wurst joint for da kielbasa and man dis joint has da sausages for yous. Best brat in like forevers here and we tried da hot brats too and they were da best. so good with the spicy kraut dat wally made for da party, I had tree of those bad boys myselfs. da beers was flowin I can tell you but great sausages everywheres. Anton say his cousin Richie got the toilet plugged up but we think it was from da onion pierogis Donna made so no issues heres. First time there at wurst Kitchen, I'm a picky eater but asked for recommendations and got the kicker, it was absolutely exquisite, the composition of the ingredients in the bratwurst was absolutely equally balanced and was delicious, very delighted with the service given and for sure will be coming back. read more

This place was so awesome! Their sausages had great flavor as well as variety. We used to live in Chicago and would get our Swedish potato sausage from one place only...eventually that place closed. We moved to the suburbs and have been searching for potato sausage...they have it and it's really good! My favorite so far! Maybe even more so than the little Swedish deli that closed! They had a great selection of sausages and even condiments, as well as some options for your furry friends! The woman behind the counter was just so nice and helpful! This place is very good. Some of the better brats that I have tried (and I have eaten many). Looking forward to trying more. I just moved to Aurora from Rockford for Grad School and this place was one of the first I visited. Best option is to consume them almost immediately. Amazing sausages at a great price. It's a premium product but worth the price. Unlike other sausages, when you cook the sausage there is almost no shrinkage. The flavors and variety are amazing. It's worth the 45 minute drive. read more

Do you love encased meats? Then I have the place for you this place should be called the best kitchen buts its Wurst Kitchen because they make the best Wursts. We picked up the spicy kicker brats, jalapeno cheddar brats the Sicilian brats and garlic brats they were all tops in flavors and size. Sorry Wisconsin the Wurst Kitchens brats are better!! We also picked up a few beef sticks and a couple pops to satisfy us after all the yummy smells. They have every flavor palate covered. You think it up its probably there . And don't forget a fresh pig ear to take home to your pooch . Mine devoured hers in less than a half hour. I've been going here since I was a kid and its great seeing a family run business still in the neighborhood after over a hundred years. Stop in you will not be disappointed! read more

There's really not much I can say that hasn't been already said. I grew up eating these on "special occasions" and even now my first bite always tastes like I'm trying them for the first time all over again. I hear a lot of people say "I don't like brats" I can only submit that to be true if someone can say that, without laughing, after trying a Wurst Kitchen brat. One side note... I've discovered something new since the last time I was in. Something brilliant, something wonderful. Something that actual is what it claims to be.... THE "A BOMB" brat. They have the spicy Kicker and the "4 x's hotter" Cherry bomb, but have now introduced a truly hot brat, enter the A Bomb. Wonderfully delicious, perfectly assembled, and actually hot! If you claim to love the spice, you must try one. read more

When I've avoided hotdogs and sausage long enough that I can justify indulging in one again, I head to the Wurst Kitchen. This place is so clean, and they make their stuff right there. You'll see the Wurst Kitchen at many of the local festivals during the summer. The best is their spicy brat. I asked about the cooking procedures and they said to boil the brats in butter, onions, and beer and THEN cook them on the grill. This prevents the casing from breaking. That gives them that nice snap when you bite into the brat. read more

Yeah it's as good as it gets...i walked into this place, the guy behind the counter gave me a pack of brats he recommended, sounded good, also got some hungarian keilbosa, weinerwursts, and dried beef jerky. Tired them all, and it doesn't get any better...this store is a 10 minute drive for me, and i will hit it up every week for my sausage kick. Great food, real homemade sausage that delivers the goods. We tried the Wurststik and enjoyed it very much. We purchased 3 different types of brats to bring home. Over the weekend we tried the garlic brats and enjoyed them very much. When I was in high school the owners son went to school with me. One day during an after school event he brought my friends and I some beef sticks that his father had sent for all of us. Once again we tried something new and it was a home run. We picked up a package of the breakfast sausage. I would say they are second to none. I will definitely be stocking up on those. We also have the bacon chocolate brats a try. I was slightly nervous but knowing I have never been disappointed I gave it a try. It had a rich and slightly smokey flavor. They were definitely a crowd pleaser. Don't let the chocolate fool you. Get out of your comfort zone, you won't be sorry. read more

Why did I never think to review this place? I mean, I've only eaten their products since I was a child... As a little one my dad would get me the regular white brats while he's pretty much always preferred the kicker brats (as do I now), which somebody else mentioned are the spicy ones. I know my dad follows the broil in beer/finish on the the grill technique and they've always been a delicious summer staple in our household. The only other thing I remember trying from there are the snack sticks. They come in a few flavors, with Dad's favorite being the jalapeño and cheddar ones. I know they do have the freezer case, but I've never purchased out of it. I believe you can bring in venison and they will make sausages, brats, dogs, what have you, out of it. (But don't quote me on that.) All in all this place is a family favorite. I don't think we've ever given somebody food from here and had them dislike it. read more
