I loved the art deco style store, and when I walked in it transported me to the old stores i would go to with my Abuela. I was pleasantly surprised with all the offers and choices. I loved the meat market and the choices of all the different snacks, but we found the deli and were amazed. The store felt like I had been going there for years. The employees were nice and attentive. I couldn't stop raving about it. My father in law started going there since and he loves the meat packs and all the choices there. It reminds him of the small grocery stores in New England. If you are in the area I definitely stopping by for a quick bite and an outstanding shopping experience. This commissary tends to have better options than the one on FT Sam. I have found a lot more of the staple items that I like to get, here at Randolph. Also, any of the times that I have shopped here have not been too crowded, which is nice. The store is very well stocked & clean. The layout is not too bad either & better than other commissaries that I have shopped in. Generally speaking, commissary pricing is usually close to what you would pay out on the normal economy, however I have seen some items that have been higher than say, Walmart or HEB. But, the trade off is that you're not paying tax on your groceries here, so it kind of evens out at times. I also appreciate the fact that the times that I have been here, the self-checkout line has not been insanely long. I imagine it probably can be though, depending on what time of day you are shopping. Fortunately, I live about equal distance between here & FT Sam, so I can easily go to either, since they both have different offerings. However, this will definitely be my go to.

I just got back from Vietnam not too long ago and let me tell you this is hands down the best pho in San Antonio! The owner is so so friendly! He took me to the kitchen showing me how he cook the broth. We had a chat about Vietnam and the food and different style of pho between north and south. At the end of my meal he brought out snacks and insisted on me taking a hand full of them! I believe this pho is only offered on weekends and make sure to ask for the mix. I've tried crawfish from all over this area & was always disappointed. However, though I've previously tried the Boil from 3 separate HEBs, I still decided to give the Kitty Hawk HEB a try. Knowing I would have to doctor it up, I only purchased a small amount. OMGosh....I couldn't believe it! The crawfish was delicious. Not overcooked & seasoned so well. I had to call & ask who cooked them....Chris! That young man knows how to Throw Down!! No more Houston runs for me...from now on, it's Kitty Hawk HEB.
