Outside they have some cheapy metal frames but inside they have two floors of with a good range of beds and a few wardrobes and chests of drawers. Prices start at £59 for basic single frames and mattresses. Double frames start at £89. If you like your gadgets or your mobility needs a bit of assistnace then have a play on their split electric beds which go from fully reclined to a sitting position. You will need help standing when you see the price tag. Outside the shop they advertise "Any size divans made to order". This must be someting to do with Liverpool having been the city of culture. A quick look on wikipedia revealed that a Divan (from the Greek word divani) is a piece of couch like sitting furniture. "Originally, in the Middle East (especially the Ottoman Empire), a divan was a long seat formed of a mattress laid against the side of the room, upon the floor, or upon a raised structure or frame, with cushions to lean against." So keep your eye out for divans - I didn't see any on my last visit.

They deliver locally; 1 item of furniture £10, 2; £15 and a three piece suite can be brought to your door for £20. The seemingly floating chairs which hang all over the inside of the church make me feel like I'm at a ceiling tea party. Also there are stacks of books and old videos to laugh through if the surroundings don't weird you out too much.

It's located where John Lewis used to be, right underneath the Radio City tower, impossible to miss. They used to concentrate on selling DIY and hardware, however now they sell everything under one roof, from linen curtains to carpets to the traditional DIY. The store has been recently refurbished, and now has a cafe instore which even sells the traditional scouse! Everything is a reasonable price, considering it is an independent store and in my opinion is on track to compete with the big names in the business.

It has now expanded greatly and made the most of the former (and well recognised) George Henry Lee building. Rapid is now right in the heart of the city centre with many entrances you can't fail to walk past. The massive improvement is that the building is now fully refurbished to give customers an even better, brighter shopping experience all under one roof! It is still going to expand further in the not so distant future which is also great news. Additionally, there is a fantastic Signature Cafe in store serving hot and cold wholesome Liverpool favourites, including scouse (one of my favourites)! As a whole, Rapid is great value for money and has a huge range of quality goods. You won't be disappointed.

It turned out that my negativity was justified as the furniture was poor quality and the shop was generally in a state of disarray. It's part of the charm of such places and the reason many of us go, because you don't know what you will uneartth but I have to say I was shocked at the treatment they gave their LPs. A Bowie album was half shoved under the leg of a table while the rest where stuffed between some furniture - mind you I could think of better ways to dispose of the collection of Nana Miscouri, Jim Reeves and New Seekers LPs to easy listening hell.
