One-star review is generous. I am an IHG member (many years) and have stayed at quite a few Holiday Inns and Suites and quite a few Holiday Inn Vacations in North America. We have never been disgusted and disappointed until this location in Port Huron, MI. (In fact, we were returning guests from a few years ago. We stayed in their 2-room King Suite & it was clean, relaxing & pleasant) I booked a reservation via Expedia.com (our plan for the weekend was bargain hunting during the "Longest Yard Sale" of the USA) 1st Red Flag: When we arrived, a guest in front of me (at the front desk) was voicing concern that her reservation wasn't correct (she booked adjoining rooms but they gave her two rooms across from each other instead) 2nd Red Flag: I reserved a 2-room king suite but was given keys to a 1-room king standard instead. 3rd Red Flag: We were stuck with the king standard (for 3 guests) because the hotel was sold out. 4th Red Flag and a major red flag: Mold was in the shower. Again, hotel was sold-out and we couldn't be moved to a different room. Other Red Flags: * Pool and pool floor was dirty * Pool water temperature was hot * Water fountains were dirty * Hotel couldn't provide extra towels * 24-hour coffee machines (in lobby) weren't available after 3pm (Coffee machine was not in our room) Holiday Inn blamed Expedia for false advertising of their rooms and Expedia blamed Holiday Inn for sending the wrong information regarding their rooms. Employees of Expedia and Holiday Inn were professional and sympathetic but reasonable and immediate solutions were not in our favor. Holiday Inn Express & Suites-Port Huron is operated by the Amerilodge Group. I am still waiting for a phone call and an email. At the time of this post, Amerilodge hasn't responded to Expedia either. We couldn't enjoy our weekend because of the filthy accommodations. We did look into other places to stay but those were sold out as well. So, we sadly returned home.

We drove for a few minutes in country time (20 minutes or so in the rest of the worlds time)... and we ended up at the most incredible cider house and orchard. Because we are fast approaching Halloween, the orchard was littered with pumpkins and halloween paraphernalia. Upon entering into the store, you are overwhelmed with fabulous candles, jams and kitschy country decorations. The second floor is what intrigued me.... Cider, Apple wine, (cysers) and delicious apple ice wine. The winemaker / cider maker here did a fabulous job of making a flavourful, dry fruit wine. And the price is great. If you can find the place, I recommend going there for a sunday drive. you will not be disappointed.

Concessions are very reasonably priced. We split a drink every game and it's about $2. Security tries their best to take care of the rambunctious kids. I get it, same longitude and wines should grow similar and all that jazz, but Michigan wines outside of the sweeter styles really never taste right to me. The Frontenac, Petite Pearl, Marquette were my favorites by far. But my five stars isn't for the wine, it's for the sheer joy this place brings me. Absolutely beautiful campus with sheep and goats and a big white furball of a dog who looks so adorable but is trained to kill any possible threat to his wards. The main walking path is probably around 1/3 of a mile, so a quick walk; but there are a few trails that branch off, leading to a children's play area, courts, or nearby municipal buildings. A stunning park for photo opportunities as well, and they hold a lot of community events, which is a big plus in my book. Definitely recommend checking it out if you get the chance.

Bill took great care of us, providing us with the history and other fun facts about Canadian wine and Dark Horse Estate. You could pick and choose what you wanted to add to your tasting. They were out of the sparkling wine, which I was really excited to try, so I ended up sampling a few roses and chose a glass of that instead. They have a nice outdoor patio with a huge fireplace and brick oven for pizzas! We didn't stay to try the food, but I would definitely come back for that. We bought a few bottles and enjoyed them over the weekend. A good experience, I recommend checking this place out if you have time.
