When we arrived, the woman selling the tickets was genuinely friendly and interested in our dog. I love that this is a dog-friendly activity and that always gets extra bonus points with me. She asked our dog's name and answered all our questions and when we saw her hours later walking around the town she called out to our dog by name and said hello. It was very sweet and just one example of the warm welcoming spirit of this city. The cruise itself was very calm and slow. Just a smooth ride down the Cass River and back. There's lots of time to take in the scenery and you learn a lot. The gentleman narrating our tour was knowledgeable and had a great voice on the microphone. I actually thought it was a recording for the first few minutes, but he introduced himself and explained that his son was the boat captain. He shared the history of Frankenmuth and the surrounding area and when he tells you the popcorn they sell on board is the best you'll ever have, he's not lying. The popcorn was the surprise star of this cruise! For only $2 you get this bag of fresh salty delicious popcorn and they actually encourage you to toss some to the ducks on the river. It was really fun watching them Rush up to the boat and watching the children laughing and enjoying themselves. I love popcorn though so unfortunately the ducks had to share with me because it was definitely the best $2 popcorn I've ever had! This is a must if you're in Frankenmuth and I'm so glad we got to experience it. We had such a nice time that we bought some souvenirs on our way off the boat, including a little Captain's hat for my husband to match the one we had for our pup already. The cruises really never venture out into unprotected waters, they simply afford a comfortable ride from downtown Mount Clemens to the mouth of the Clinton River, with a turn around in Lake St. Clair and return. They always have adequate seating, refreshments available, an occasional live band. The atmosphere aboard is light and lively, but in my case, that also depended on the group I was with. During periods of foul weather, they have nice side curtains what allow great views in an enclosed ship. For a pleasant outdoor activity, I couldn't recommend this company more.

FIRST…read morething i appreciated is that they still let you rent the boats without boating experience, which is a bit risky for them so understandably they recommend you take a training course before you rent the boat....and I even loved the training course, my instructor (Gary) was great, taught me everything I needed to know and I felt so confident going out on the water all by myself. SECOND favorite thing about this rental company is their cancellation/rescheduling policy, totally worry free! And I rescheduled 3 TIMES because the weather wasn't ideal without any hassle or extra charges whatsoever! Made me even more comfortable when I finally did go out on the water because I did so on a beautiful sunny day that had no cloud in the sky and no wind gusts on the water! I was able to visit one of the restaurants they suggested and it was great! Cabbana Blue is right along the water, had some delicious food, beautiful ambiance and LIVE MUSIC. My entire experience was unforgettable! Really looking forward to going out again before the boating season ends if I can!

Lexington Charter Boats has added single and tandem kayaks this summer (2010). Now, I hate to…read moreadmit it, but I HAVE NEVER kayaked before, so I really didnt know exactly what to expect. I had 2 adults and 7 kids (10 - 16 y/o) and I really wanted to try it out. I called ahead and they were very accommodating with our schedule (and even opened early just for us). After talking with them, I felt VERY prepared, despite having no experience myself, and most of the kids hadn't either. We rented 4 tandems and 1 single (I believe they have 4 tandems and 8 singles to date) and it was PERFECT! No one (not even me) had any trouble getting accustomed to using the kayaks. We were given very good instruction before going out and I felt quite comfortable having everyone out by themselves - even on the big lake. Here are some tips that might be helpful: - I SO wished I had a camera out on the water. A small pocket camera in a ziplock/waterproof bag should be fine - i barely got wet at all. - Obviously, sunscreen is a must, I'd suggest a hat. - it was easy to go ashore and I wish we would have packed a lunch and stopped for a bit to eat - just for the experience. - None of us had a watch (!), so judging how long we were out was a challenge, but that's probably just us! I would HIGHLY recommend this for just about anyone.
