I have a very different point of view as I have researched medical care for years and know there are three common aspects. Primary Care medicated, Surgeons Operate and lawyers and insurance companies determine care. When was the last time any of them truly spoke with you about options? Look at this site. They write about caring interaction and most advanced methods of care. Not true in my visit. I researched and know that DMSO may treat basal cell cancer. I've been using it for 3 weeks. Basa Cell confirmed with biopsy has regressed based upon a recent exam. they knew nothing about it. I was asked to sign a refusal of care treatment because I would not consent to Mohs surgery. Instead, I recommended a follow-up visit in 2 months to check results. I was told they cannot support my use of DMSO as it is not part of their protocol. So much for cutting edge care and relationship. I received a certified letter 3 days later telling me basically that I am putting my health at risk. I will soon respond to that letter. If all you are interested in is throughput and you do what you are told... My advice start referring to yourself as a customer and not a patient. They have a service they are offering and you have the right to accept, modify or deny. I believe this is called informed consen. in the case of my visit it was either or. The woman -- the office manager-- said to hold on while she looked for an alternate date. I held on for five minutes and then hung up. About 20 minutes later, I called the office back and was told that their Rosedale office doesn't open until 9, so the earliest appointment I could get was in February. Where do I start?…read more 1) Dr. Lola at Silver Spring Gastroenterology likes to charge $330 for a 10-minute Zoom appt (one I was forced to have as a "pre-op consult" with info that could have easily been emailed). When I questioned this, because it had to be a mistake, and then tried to get this brought down to something reasonable, I was denied. Disgusting. 2) She also likes to ask, "Well, what do you think we should do?" I'm not the doctor! Why am I paying YOU? She does not read the chart beforehand (neither does the office, as they triage you and take your vitals and then ten minutes in, ask, "What's your name again?") I came for you to fix me, not for you to ask my opinion on what kind of care path I want to take. I want the one that frickin' fixes me. 3) After spending thousands of dollars, at my post-op follow up, it was suggested I take a $7 supplement to fix my issue. After over a year of visits and thousands of dollars. I would have laughed if I didn't want to cry. Why was this not suggested first?? 4) But never fear- she prescribed something, too. Imagine my surprise when my pharmacy called me and asked when I got on high-cholesterol medication....because that ISN'T what I have. She sent in medication for a condition I did not have. 5) The office quoted me a $0 estimate for my procedure. I currently received my third different bill for a total of $2000 for that very procedure. Again, would laugh if I didn't spend so much time crying. This entire company, system, and country is broken. When I see a b.s. MedStar commercial or magazine cover purporting that their mission is to help people, I want to set things on fire. Corrupt. Uncaring. Unethical. THIS is MedStar. Stay away. I know at this point I will take my chances with my health, because I simply cannot afford to spend this much money on crap care.
