I have a very different point of view as I have researched medical care for years and know there are three common aspects. Primary Care medicated, Surgeons Operate and lawyers and insurance companies determine care. When was the last time any of them truly spoke with you about options? Look at this site. They write about caring interaction and most advanced methods of care. Not true in my visit. I researched and know that DMSO may treat basal cell cancer. I've been using it for 3 weeks. Basa Cell confirmed with biopsy has regressed based upon a recent exam. they knew nothing about it. I was asked to sign a refusal of care treatment because I would not consent to Mohs surgery. Instead, I recommended a follow-up visit in 2 months to check results. I was told they cannot support my use of DMSO as it is not part of their protocol. So much for cutting edge care and relationship. I received a certified letter 3 days later telling me basically that I am putting my health at risk. I will soon respond to that letter. If all you are interested in is throughput and you do what you are told... My advice start referring to yourself as a customer and not a patient. They have a service they are offering and you have the right to accept, modify or deny. I believe this is called informed consen. in the case of my visit it was either or. I had an appointment scheduled to be seen for some cosmetic concerns. I ended up calling to see if i could be seen sooner due to a mole that didn't seem "normal". They were able to get me in that same week which was great since my anxiety was through the roof. I had no preference on who i was seeing since i hadn't been here since 2016. I was scheduled with Geneva Acuff. She was very kind and knowledgeable. She was able to answer all of my questions and gave great advice. I appreciated how honest she was when it came to prices. I would not recommend Advanced Dermatology to anyone. They overcharge under the guise of collecting deductibles- they do not follow appropriate billing guidelines or stay up to date on changes- and they refuse to refund their patients without a direct request for the overpayment. I know there is one thing we all love as customers and that is to walk into a business and be ignored. I walked into this place and six receptionists were sitting there. Nobody else in the building. Not one of them looked up and said hello. I signed in, sat down, and waited about 5 minutes before one of the six called me up. She hands me a chart to fill out and shortly thereafter, a medical assistant took me back. At checkout, same deal. Me, standing behind a elderly couple checking out, while five stupid ass employees behind the desk are blabbing away to each other or just plain ignoring me. The clinical staff are nice. Unfortunately, it wasn't the same for me. I was seen three times, I'm not insured, and each time I wasn't properly evaluated. I've been trying to figure out what my problem is for 4 months. Everyone claimed stress and prescribed oral corticosteroids without any success. I'm totally frustrated because I spent more than $1,000 dollars without any results and my condition got worse. Today I went to ask for a refill, the head of staff called me complaining because I was clear about what I was feeling and excluded me from the clinic's website, where I still remain without a diagnosis or treatment. First off Ernie Eckenrode is absolutely awesome - 5 stars for him!!! However, the billing office didn't code a castle report correctly (THAT I NEVER REQUESTED AND HAVE NEVER SEEN A COPY OF) as "pre authorized" and my medical insurance is giving us a huge fight over $8500 saying it wasn't coded correctly. After numerous attempts to contact someone in billing we finally got a call back but when we answered the phone it was a recording to call them back. We called back within 1 minute and no one had a clue as to why they had called us. Again, Ernie is absolutely awesome but I'm likely going to cancel my appointments and find another place because the billing department is going to ABSOLUTELY DESTROY my credit rating. ImThe PA I saw was good, but due to complications I had to have MULTIPLE wound checks. Wound checks should not have copays. This office has decided that they do not do wound checks but require a PA visit (to check a wound). This seems awful shady and a way to create insurance claims that should not be made, and more income from copay's. Be careful! read more

I do not understand all the reviews stating they only saw a PA. I always see Dr. Englehart for my six month skin cancer checkups. I would think if you do not want to see a PA, tell them you will only see a physician. I have had good experiences with this practice in Bel Air. They have removed several basil cells and Dr. Cooper is excellent. I do think the skin examination should take a bit longer. The front office staff has been pleasant to me. I absolutely LOVE the fact that the doctor used an app that told them COST OF Rx. Had she just asked me what pharmacy to send Rx to, I'd have pulled out my own app (Good Rx) and selected between 3 or 4 local pharmacies. She got it up and we reviewed the list together in the wink of an eye! Absolutely FABULOUS! And regarding appt availability, My wife and I both got scabies (we share everything). Her appt is far out there, BUT because I am scratching myself to death every night, your office elevated the priority and I got in the very next morning. ALSO, because the doctor knew that you always treat the entire family at the same time for Scabies, she wrote for Rx for both of us/ without having to see both of us. Regarding competence; I was bad 3 weeks ago and went to urgent care. They prescribed ONE TUBE, topical cream, not enough for both of us and suggested spot treatment (I think). It didn't work. a week later we went to our Primary care MD, he was specific, a tube each, cover entire body starting w neck moving down. It didn't touch (My) scabies. Your office clarified that the topical treatment is often ineffective/ scabies develop resistance, and prescribed the oral systemic treatment! I will also mention that I have searched VERY hard for a new dermatologist in all of Harford county, to no avail. A dermatologist is a persistent relationship specialist these days in my opinion. We need more of you!. You guys never came up in any of my searches!? Gotta get your internet/ marketing people on that (or are you already overwhelmed and hiding?). You guys are Da Bomb. We LOVE YOU. I've been a patient here for a very long time. They were great at first, but over the years, the service has gotten progressively worse. Now that they have been bought out by a larger, corporate company, it's even worse. All they care about is getting you in and making money. I haven't seen an actual doctor in several years, despite my history of skin cancer. It's always physician assistants. They won't communicate with you over the phone, they force you to communicate via a online patient portal where they won't provide any real information. When you call the office to try to speak with someone other than a receptionist, they tell you you have to make an appointment, which will cost even more $$. Theres constant pressure to buy expensive products or procedures. The front office staff are rude and cold. I've been over-billed and had to call constantly for a week before they would issue a credit. My daughter had an appointment and unbeknownst to her they scheduled a follow up telehealth appointment. She was not aware of it therefore she didn't attend it and they charged us for it and would not refund us. Im really disappointed, but I will be finding a new dermatology practice ASAP. read more

I am giving this review for a same day visit (outside scheduled annual exam) with Geneva Acuff, NP. She was welcoming and pleasant. She diagnosed a concerning skin spot quickly and treated it quickly. It's too bad, reviews from 2020 & 2021 are still posted - mostly 1 star (and during the difficult period of COVID) and also 2022. Mostly about seeing a PA instead of a doctor. Wake up people, EVERY medical practice involves NPs and PAs. I am a former BSN (college educated nurse) and I respect the these medically trained individuals. A MD doesn't have to do every annual or semi-annual skin check. I found the receptionist staff to be responsive. But, if you don't get the reaction or 'welcome' you expect, then be the sunshine and say hello to them first - you will get acknowledged. And for billing issues, why taint reviews with one star when you mention the practitioner as awesome within the review. Go higher in the practice to resolve your issue - corporate takeovers are more impersonal, but be a problem solver. I'm happy to be in this practice after my former practitioner left another group. (And in the former group, people had to wait for one office staff person to process check-ins and check-outs). read more

Front desk staff is constantly rude. The younger girls working the desk constantly have an attitude. Not sure why you'd have a receptionist job if you have zero people skills. My daughter had a follow up appoint scheduled as a Video Visit because she is away at school. Appointment scheduled for 10 am with PA. 10:15 no call. She called office and was assured he'd call her. NO CALL! She called twice more...still, no call! Gets text message next day stating she missed her appointment!!! They also seem quite a bit unorganized. Prescription was submitted with our address and correct date of birth but totally different name!! The day we went for her first appointment they had just implemented a new computer system. Don't think you should schedule patients and learn a new system at the same time. It was nuts!! read more

Worst office ever! You have to fight to get an appointment, they don't call you back when they say they will. Then they schedule you for a procedure and then cancel it without 24 hrs notice telling you, you would have to go somewhere else for a different doctor/specialist to handle it. Even though they told you, they would do it. They won't help the pain you have been in. And apparently according to the office mgr, nurse pa's aren't real doctors and don't know what they are talking about. I seem to think that they got their medical degree's not the office manager. I have had a rash for more than 3 years. I have been to 8 dermatologists and no one can figure it out. Advanced Radiology at least did a couple of biopsies but to no avail. They didn't have a clue to what has and is causing this thing. read more

The wait was too long, considering I had an appointment (I'd say about 35 mins), and all the so-called Dr. did was look at the keloid on my ear, tell me I need to buy a special pressure clip before the can remove it, and asked me to reschedule once I bought the clip. First of all, you're a dermatology office, shouldn't you supply things like that? I'm a medical biller, you can bill for both procedures and supplies. Secondly, I find it annoying that after waiting for 35 mins you spent a total of 5 mins with me and did NOTHING. Then, when I went to pay my co-pay, I informed the receptionist it was $30. She INSISTED that I pay $25. Then, surprise surprise, I get a bill for $5 in the mail a few weeks later. Idiots. read more

I've been here several times. I did have a skin cancer under my ear and a doctor used the Mohs procedure to take it off. Good job. No complaints about that. However, I need to come for skin examinations every 6 months. I do not think that they spend enough time checking suspicious lesions even though I've had a first degree relative that died from melanoma. They need to use a dermatoscope, and they don't use one. It would take too long. Also, you have to see a PA instead of a dermatologist for your skin examination. Not all PAs there have the same level of experience. It's like, if I'm right and they are wrong, I die. Not acceptable odds. read more

I came here a long time ago. 1 for Accutane & 2. Because I had a rash on my foot. When I told them about the rash I told them it came out of no where and it was really itchy and uncomfortable. They looked at it and said it was probably because of the change in climate and would go away on its own. They never did anything for it and it never went away. As for the Accutane this was my first time on it so I didn't know what to expect. They said because I was a female I would need to take a pregnancy test, wait 30 days, take another pregnancy test and then wait another 30 days before being able to start the medication because the medication is so strong it would cause birth defects in babies so you're not allowed to be pregnant. After waiting two months they started me on the medication at 20mg. Eventually I lost my insurance. Once I got new insurance I went to a different dermatologist for the same two issues. The dermatologist looked at the rash on my foot, told me it was eczema, and prescribed me a medication for it- it was gone in 3 days after that. Also they told me I didn't need to wait 60 days before starting accutane, I only needed to wait 30days. He also mentioned that at the severity of my acne and at my weight that I should have started at 40mg not 20mg. So basically I feel like they purposely slowed the process of me getting better in order to make more money. Also most of them are physicians assistance not doctors and you can't even see a doctor if you request to. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here if they had a serious issue. I went here in 2009 to have a white spot on my chin looked at and the PA I met with told me not to worry. She said that since I am pale and have pink undertones I was only noticing it because of the contrast in color and the best way to correct it is to sell me this cream that would reduce the redness. Not wanting to go against "doctors" orders, I did that and the spot was still noticeable but I covered it with make up and continued on for a couple years, all the while the spot getting slightly worse. I had continued to visit this office yearly to do a cancer screening as well and the PA's who saw me never said anything about my chin spot. Fast forward to 2013, my spot now was becoming an issue because there started to be a break in the skin at the boarder of the spot. A friend asked me about it and I had told her that I had been to a dermatologist so it was all fine. She insisted that I go to her doctor and I am so glad I did. Within minutes the DOCTOR saw it as a skin lesion, scheduled a biopsy, which confirmed it was a basil cell carcinoma. The DOCTOR said that with this type of skin lesion, it is very slow growing and because mine was so deep, it must have been there for about 5 years. I now have a 2 inch scar along the base of my chin that could have been much smaller if this medispa clinic had a DOCTOR working with patients. I have not been back, nor will I ever go back, and I want to make sure if you have a concern, SEE A DOCTOR! read more

I have used the services of Advanced Dermatology for several years now. I have always kept my appointments and paid for my co-pays. I received a text message about two weeks ago saying my account was being sent to inhouse collections for 30.06. I immediately checked my checking account to make sure I paid it. I did. The next day I went directly to their office and showed them the payments. The office managers response was that it must have been from an old bill, but she would check into it and get back to me. I gave them my credit card information only because I didn't want it to affect my credit rating. I have not heard back from them. I'm now looking for a new dermatologists ! read more

I had an appointment this morning with Bethany Kane (PA) for a full body cancer screen and to remove some skin tags. When I arrived the front desk person was friendly and professional. I noticed that the gentleman that took me back to the room was very friendly to all of the patients he was escorting, asking them how they were, or how their day was so far. Then Lisa came in, introduced herself and we completed some unanswered questions for my record. When Bethany came in she introduced herself and was very friendly and professional. It was clear she had reviewed my record, knew the person I had seen the last time, knew it had been awhile since I had been there, etc. Some doctors or PAs just come in to do their job and barely talk to you. Bethany kept a conversation going while explaining what she was doing, told me the increase in price for skin tag removal, and asked several times if I was ok while she was burning the skin tags and if I had any questions. The office is clean, wait times aren't bad, and the staff if pleasant. I've been to two if this practice's locations. It seems a bit like a patient mill. Pump you in, pump you out. I've not been to an office where the medical professional is less interested. I've seen three different medical professionals at this practice, a nurse practioner, a physician's assistant, (and finally after those unsatisfying experiences) requested an appointment with a doctor - that turned out equally as disapointing. The medical professional in each situation spent less than five minutes with me. I'd prefer a medical practice that gives a darn about patient relationships and patient care, or at a minimum acts like it. I need to new place. read more

I've had only good experiences here. The facility is A+, and so is the staff. They're always pleasant and professional. In particular, Dr. Cooper has painlessly removed melanoma from my face several times, and her assistant, Mr. McCloskey, is always kind, knowledgeable, and caring. read more

My family has used this office for the last 2 years. I work in medicine and I am familiar with the expectations of patient care and billing. I have encountered multiple problems with this office. The staff has often been Curt and unwilling to go out of their way to assist a patient. When I have encountered a problem with the dictation on my medical record with incorrect information being transcribed and a problem with billing it required multiple actions on my part to get different parties involved before the problem was resolved and both times they were errors on the part of the office. The staff at this facility would truly benefit from some education and customer service. I am currently looking for a new dermatologist. read more

What a nightmare I'm going through, and all because they're money hungry! Had two spots on my lower leg that they never even tried to freeze. Just biopsies right away, both came back as basil cell carcinoma. They said I needed to have Mohs surgery on both, but fortunately, they wanted 2 separate appointments. Went for the first one, Dr. couldn't even find the spot it was so negligible. Did the surgery, went back 2 weeks later, took out stitches, said it looked good. Then, 2 weeks after that, it was red and looked bad. Had an appointment with my GP, and asked him to look at it. He was appalled that they even did Mohs surgery on spot in that location, and that small, and that they never tried freezing it first. I now have a big hole in my leg that will probably take months to heal. It's all about the money! My GP said he would take care of the second spot if it needs any attention. He also said you should never do Mohs surgery below the chest area. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRACTICE! read more
