I attended couple therapy sessions with Lynn Cook expecting compassion and professionalism, but my…read moreexperience was the opposite. In one session, he abruptly ended by saying, "I probably shouldn't say this, but you should probably be single." That comment was not only unprofessional but emotionally harmful -- especially as it came at the very end of the session, leaving no chance for discussion or support. When I calmly explained in the next session how that statement had left me feeling emotionally harmed, he became defensive and said he didn't understand how it was offensive. I realized then that my emotional safety was not a priority in his care. As someone who has studied Pastoral Care and Counseling at the graduate level, I understand the ethical foundations of therapy. The core value of any therapist is to do no harm -- to create a space of empathy and neutrality. Lynn Cook failed to uphold those principles. He also said he didn't care about medical diagnoses and suggested I find another therapist who "mainly works with attachment style." That disregard felt careless and inconsistent with his claimed attachment-based approach. He described his style as "blunt and direct," implying that some clients simply don't like it. However, being direct only helps when it comes from genuine care, wisdom, and nonjudgment. When a therapist's intention is truly for the client's healing, directness can foster reflection and growth -- but when it lacks empathy, it causes harm. Instead of building rapport or modeling healthy connection, he showed defensiveness and pride. He even mentioned that it's rare for his therapy not to work out with other clients, implying that the problem was with me rather than reflecting on his own approach. However, another review about him says that they had similar experiences. I left those sessions feeling hurt and retraumatized, later learning that others had similar experiences. Therapy should heal, not harm. I hope sharing this helps others find the safe, compassionate care they deserve.

I see that several who have reviewed this clinic have not had the best of experiences. I hate that…read morethis was the case for them. Many of the criticisms I have read have been on financial policies. I completely understand that mental illness, family instability and financial instability often form a negative symbiotic relationship. Obviously too there are greater societal issues involved like the stigma of mental illness, a lack of mental health professionals and incarceration vs treatment of poor and disenfranchised persons. This one practice can't fix the world's problems and will make mistakes occasionally because they are human too. Don't get me wrong I am not a rich person and I have to budget to make sure I can pay for my appointments until I reach my deductible on my insurance. I get it, it is hard. There are resources out there that can help ones who are not doing well financially. Yes it takes due diligence and that is sometimes hard to muster. Not everyone has a support network to help them follow through on these things either. But if one option isn't feasible, there are others. I only have positive things to say about the therapist that I see here. I have had other therapists before and experienced some less than ideal to outright awful ones. I once had a therapist that I was paying to be his therapist. Talk about frustrating. That didn't last long. Now I am with a therapist that I respect and am very pleased with. Dawn Pettit is an intelligent, discerning and skilled LCSW. Therapy is a very subjective practice by nature. No two patients or therapists are alike. Finding who you connect with is hard and usually takes time. I understand that finances are difficult for a lot of people including me. Sometimes despite people's best efforts and intentions, they fail to provide the level of care some need and expect. And as with any field there are ones who may not be as cut out for their chosen career as they might think. If you read this far then I thank you. I hope that my words and experience can be of benefit to you.

But not before you fill out all your new patient information without any consultation or guidance including your billing details. When I finally did get a call from the Asian lady you can barely speak English to setup my first appt I was very clear on the services I was needing since the paperwork I filled out was misleading in some areas. We made the appt and agreed about the self pay agreements for each service. I made it 40 minutes through my telehealth appt before she decided to tell me she was only a therapist and didn't deal in med management. So basically even tho I had a 30 minute consultation discussing my needs and why I was seeking help at CFT, she still made me an appt for the wrong f*ckin service. And guess what, even tho they messed up my scheduling, still charged me. In self pay. I can't shell out a couple hundred bucks for no reason and that's what it was because I received no benefit from it besides an introduction with a therapist and then they let me know I was in the wrong place. They still gonna take that money tho. Then tell me I'll have to pay again for the service I originally requested. Fraud and theft at its finest. Literally f*ck this place. Do not recommend.

This woman destroyed me and my family. I have since been diagnosed with PTSD and night terrors from…read morethe trauma I received at her hands. I went to the studio when I was 17. I had severe depression, anxiety and was dealing with years of trauma. I was eager to get help and get better and went in optimistic. At first it went well. But as months went on she became more accusatory, blatantly lied to my parents and broke confidentiality when it wasn't necessary, and shamed me instead of supporting me. She did many other things, too many to list. She kicked me out of support group because I was apparently loud and annoying and one time I was drowsy from my prescription medication and she accused me of being high every single time when I wasn't. Getting kicked out of group was a huge blow to my self esteem, as I was already dealing with rejection issues. On one occasion I told her I had taken 2 hydrocodone. She then called my mom into the session and told her I was doing heroin and that I was a prostitute. (I've never even seen heroin in real life, and I have no idea where she got the prostitute thing from.) She destroyed my relationship with my parents. She also tried to convince me that I have multiple personalities. She accused me of doing meth, which i've also never seen in real life. I couldn't win with her. When I wore makeup, she told me I was fake, when I didn't wear makeup, she told me I looked like a mess and was obviously depressed. But the worst thing she ever did was blame me for getting raped and abused. She re-traumatized me and reopened wounds from the past. I left every session crying and broken. It's been a year and I'm still damaged. I will never forget the way Stephanie Johnston made me feel - small, ashamed, and alone. Do not seek help from this woman. Find a therapist who will support you, listen to you, and believe you.

Counseling requires you to process some hard things, which can be uncomfortable and difficult to do, but in the long run it helps you become a healthier person. If I could give no stars I would. Please avoid Dan Sheaffer…read moreat all costs. My marriage suffered more strain from our visits with Dan. He strung us along with promises of what he had plans to implement in our counseling then those plans never seemed to come to fruition ,conveniently for him , while he charged us $100 per hour session. It seemed fairly obvious he never desired to prepare for our sessions, but hoped to provide us with elementary "worksheets" or behavioral exercises that would consume the hour session leading to the next week. We were charged more money for a Prepare and Enrich online survey which was supposed to be used in guiding our marriage counseling yet over a month after finishing it, we actually had to basically beg to go over it (which we still never did). For someone who claims to be a "Christian counselor" it was also odd that he only ever referenced scripture on two minor 2 minute occasions in our 8 separate hour sessions and both times his references to them were puzzling or superficial at best. We expressed personal history of sexual trauma , family abuse, suicidal ideations, intimacy issues in marriage, issues with addictions, all of which were hardly addressed over 8 sessions. There was always a promise of " we are going to get into that in a future session" or a light encouragement of " hang in there" even when the strain of the burden of coming to a nightly session which we had to bring our 5-8 month old child to (of no fault to him) became evident, but we would met with more apparent "winging it" with regards to the direction of sessions. We always left sessions more confused, more bitter, more exhausted, and more hopeless. At our final session , at which we expressed concerns about discontinuing counseling or seeking help elsewhere and trying to make our issues again evident, Dan essentially flipped the responsibility back onto us, shut down, did not attempt to even counsel us any further, basically letting us talk out the remaining 40 minutes , said that if we wanted to go through our Prepare and enrich survey we paid for a month prior that it would take 3 to 4 more hundred dollar sessions, and that basically if we didn't want to attend counseling it was on us. Our marriage has actually improved since STOPPING counseling with Dan, by the grace of God, but it is still extremely disheartening to be so vulnerable and open and desperate with a counselor who seemed only interested in making profit and offering empty promises. I honestly pray I am wrong about his character and I attempted out of desperation to remain hopeful the entire process yet that hope dwindled quickly; I admit my personal and marital struggles are not his responsibility, but if this is what counseling is supposed to be, I highly recommend you look elsewhere for support / guidance.
