My favorite night is late Saturday nights, they usually play some excellent hip hop if you catch it at the right time. By "nomally wouldn't hear", I'm not talking about an obscure noise/basement medley/karaoke cover/whatever-else-obscure 24/7 (though maybe sometimes) fest. For instance, just giving it a listen randomly, they were going over some local events (big kid kickball!) inbetween Kraftwerk and Jean Grae. Currently, my good friend Dustin does Freeform on Thursday nights. He knows a lot about music and is a local musician. I've learned a lot about local music and much more through him, and thanks to him I've opened my scope to being more than a hip hop head. Once, he created an entire playlist for me on my birthday -- one of the coolest birthday gifts, ever. I've also taken a walk through the station itself. It's a great place adorned with decades of history on the walls -- Post-Its, scribbin', photos -- along with a well-loved couch and tech stuff like turntables, cassette decks, reel to reels, amps. Those walls are totally made to house sound. If you're curious about a certain DJ, they playlists are posted online. You can also connect through their website -- no need to sit in the car with the top down and an Icee.

I have WOMC on my presets on my Jeep radio. I can't imagine listening to it all day unless I had a…read morejob that left it on as default but it's a great station to flip to for a nostalgia trip as I search through the dial. (Which isn't really a dial anymore.) I'm a bit surprised at the level of hate this station is getting in the scant few reviews it has on Yelp. Doesn't just about every city have a modern oldies station like this? Lots and lots of 80s, some 70s, a bit of 90s. When I was a kid they played mostly 50s and 60s top 40 but the march of time goes on. Sure they play the same songs over and over again but don't most stations? Hey, if it ain't broke... I think that's why we have more than one radio station to choose from. The morning show people are pretty insufferable but again, I think that's pretty par for the course and I'm quick to hit buttons as soon as I'm not liking what I'm hearing. It's no CBC - my favorite radio station- or no WDET but it's not supposed to be. It beats the hell out of WNIC; I'll say that much. I'll probably never listen to WOMC again if I ever get to the point of driving vehicles that have Bluetooth hookups to play music from off my phone or even Sirius radio but for now it fills a spot and I'd actually probably look back and miss it a little after a long period of it's absence... that beep, beep, yeah! jingle and whatnot.

If you want the best classic hits, listen to LONG ISLAND Radio Stations like 102.3 WBAB (Babylon) and 103.1 WBZO MAX FM (Bay Shore). GET THE APPS FOR THOSE RADIO STATIONS RIGHT NOW! Just terrible. Inexcusably bad…read more The CD player broke in my car, forcing me to listen to the radio and I was shocked at what's happened to radio, so I landed on WDET and it's no better. They used to play music, actually had some decent content until they hired somebody who knew better and it went to all talk and canned NPR content (translation: what you heard in the morning was the same thing you'd hear in the evening). Now they've gone back to music but it's the worst music you could imagine. And here's something I've learned about the music on public and college radio: it's all from a playlist, often a more rigid playlist than commercial stations adhere to, and there's a reason none of it is considered "popular." So I did some surfing, turns out the guy who knew better and ruined the station embezzled money, not enough money to make it worth doing but that's where your contriburions went. Now I play the Canadian public station, I can't say I listen as I usually keep it low, it's not much better but if they do something worthy of attention I turn it up.

If I was President Trump I would cut off their funding too since I have NEVER heard them say a good word about him!! Are there things I don't like about the current administration, of course. But they are doing some good things, as well, but you will NEVER hear about it on this station or it's affiliates!! AMP is one of the newest players on the Detroit radio circuit. I am generally a big fan. The…read morestation tends to play dance, club and hip-hop music a lot and that's the kind of music I want to listen to in the car. The music is generally Top 40 with a tendency to play the more dance oriented type music. My only problem is that the songs are fairly repetitious and if there is a certain song that is out that I don't like, it's easy to hear that repeatedly. Also, AMP has the same problem as many Detroit stations: too much Eminem. Otherwise, I flip to the AMP quite often to get me through my drive and through my day. I can't ask for much else from a radio station.

One day I turned on the radio without the DVD and I heard what sounded like a real radio station. I absolutely love Southfield High School's station. THEY GET IT! No commercials because they station is funded through the state. No annoying DJ's blasting a bunch of empty rhetoric on topics they know absolutely nothing about. No IRRITATING shout outs to the best baby daddy's and baby mama's . It is oh so refreshing to hear a variety of music without having to cringe at the lyrics. Don't get me wrong, they play all sorts of music and including hip hop, "real" hip hop. You know anything before the bling era. I have two favorite stations and this is one!
