Excited to have my favorite "alternative rock" station back. Some of the new stuff they're playing just doesn't fit the alt rock vibe and is pretty lame. read more

Dave and Chuck The Freak with Lisa Way actually makes me look forward to my hour plus long commute to work in gridlock traffic prior to the sun even rising....now that is powerful testimony! They have me cracking up the entire way from dumb ass criminal of the day, bitch is trippin, news, sports, Andrew the man expert, organism Rick, that crazy smoking granny who loves White Castle and adult novelties, Leon the sex coach. I love when Mark Steinus from ET calls in...he's a hoot! The listeners write in needing advice and they have some unique issues to boot! (Should I sleep with my friends mom, should I let her dominate me for cash, crazy roommate might be a serial killer, you know everyday stuff) I miss sexy Wednesdays. Then there's those dang Canadian fast food commercials-I'm jealous Poutine with butter chicken...I'm a sucker for fusion food and anything curry and unexpected french fry uses (Bucharest Shwarma, California Burrito at Carnival)! Other than Dave and Chuck..it's nice to have a radio station that plays something other than the same 8 sugar pop. Radiohead, Weezer make me happy. I could use more Ramones, Flaming LIps, Talking Heads, Janes Addiction, and obsecure things like CBC Radio2 plays. Bonus on the weekends they play retro tunage! read more

Cimx 89X - Radio Stations Near Me - Bingham Farms, Michigan

See all

I have listened to 89X for YEARS. I probably listened to this in high school. Since it's a Canadian station, it can broadcast farther than most US stations, therefore I could get it out in the middle of nowhere Michigan. 89X promotes itself as "The New Rock Alternative" which I suppose is adequate. Sometimes I'll here music on here like Buddy Holly by Weezer and I think to myself this is not new at all, but it's ok because I generally like the music on here. This is one of the only stations in the area to listen to alternative, hard rock, grunge music. I am personally a fan of much of the music played on here. However, part of playing the new alternative is the station plays a lot of awful like Evanescence and Nickleback. I blame the bad taste of the listeners more than the station. If people didn't listen to that stuff then the station wouldn't have to play it. I started listening when the morning show was Kelly, Dave and Chuck the Freak. Kelly has since moved on but Dave & Chuck are still there. I think this is one of the best morning shows in the Detroit area. Sometimes the show gets a little too reliant on potty humor, but generally it makes me laugh. I don't come here for the report on Darfur. Overall, it's a decent station with a lot of music that you can't hear elsewhere around Detroit. read more

I like most of the DJ's and most of the music but, yeah 89x is pretty much a cookie cutter station anymore. I started listening in the very early 90's when the alt/grunge thing was just taking off and the music they played seemed so cutting edge and exciting. Maybe that was me being young and easily impressionable. I honestly listen to more college radio than 89x. But I like listening to 89x on the internet cause there are very limited commercials. That little Cal Cagno, he's a cutie, and well you know who picks him up after each and every shift, his mom. I remember when he was on just before Time Warp with Christina in the AM on Sundays. Yeah, I'm THAT old. Would really, really like to see 89x become "Nickelback Free". Who in their right mind LIKES Nickleback anyways? They only started a band cause they are all too damn fugly to actually nail any remotely decent looking skanks. The morning show. . . .. .. not interested in hearing hysterical laughter over things that are just not funny. I don't even crack a smile, so I've stopped listening in the AM. I LIKE entertaining and funny, and honestly I have a fairly juvenile sense of humor but I don't get anything out of the 89x morning show. They're doing the same show everyone else is doing. This is a DETROIT radio station. Isn't Detroit ROCK CITY? How about some interesting "local to the music industry" guests in the morning. Or just something, anything interesting????? I think. . . .I like listening to 89x cause it sometimes takes me back to my youth. . . .then they play Nickleback and I throw up in my mouth a little bit. read more

Your music sucks and your listeners are troglodytes. I can hear your stupid bullshit all the way here in Cleveland. Your signal is too strong and rides over our local college stations that don't suck like you do. Turn down the Nickelback, it's giving me a god damn headache. read more

the only reason i can even FATHOM giving you that 2nd star is because you're one of the only rock stations that has hung on in Detroit. Better not complain too much or else I won't have any station at all to gripe about! I have such fond memories of 89x as a kid. You guys were the alternative GODS at the time. You even played all that obscure Canadian music a year or two the Americans got wind of it. I remember summer of 95 sitting in the Kroger parking lot waiting for my aunt to go in and buy short ribs for the memorial day bbq when i first heard Alanis Morrissette's "You oughta know" You guys were the first to play it! You were the first to play Silverchair in North America, and who knows what other bands that were kings in the 90s. OH HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN. Now you just play the bottom of the barrel Nickelback clones, nu-metal bands that caught the wave 15 years too late, and other nonsense than has no business on the radio. Really! what happened to you? I get sad when I think about it. I still think there is hope for you! I like that DJ Cal Cagno though, but he can do way better than you. read more

If I didn't have to work early at 7am I would hate work. But thanks to Cal & Co. I would hate work love the show

This is a great, all-around station. Best morning show in Detroit, hand down. Dave and Chuck the Freak crack me up every single morning. Without fail. The musical selection is outstanding for new rock and not the overplayed crap on the pop stations. read more
