I hired NJH to repair damage to a restored antique mahogany staircase in my house…read more The newel post at the end of a section of the banister had separated from the handrail and was loosed at the base. That made this section of the banister wobbly, unsafe and prone to further damage. Prior and now failed repairs with mastic and nails were an eyesore and calling for further restoration work. Ben with Kellam's supervision closely conferred with me how to do the best structural and cosmetic restoration of the banister. They dismantled the newel post from the handrail and the mounting of the post to the staircase frame, and removed old nails and mastic from the post rails joint all without damage. To remove the post, they had to remove stapled carpeting and a stair tread that they replaced without damage at the end of the job. They very securely remounted the newel post with corner backets under the stair tread and long bolts into its base covered with matching round plugs. Having so securely remounted the post and restoring the post to rail mortise and tendon, the handrail was solidly secured without the further use of mastic, nails or screws. With a few touchups to old wood putty, they then managed to remove obvious evidence of prior repairs. As this section of handrail may need a restoration replacement to match the quality of the other staircase handrails, their method of reconnection rail to the post will allow for less problematic handrail replacement without damage.

I hopped onto Yelp and looked up Furniture Assembly in my area and decided to give this place a shot. Frank picked up his phone right away and I sent him a photo of the table so that he was able to provide a quote. He quoted me a fair price and told me he'd be able to come ASAP, so I had him come by today. It took him all of 15 minutes to put it together! I think I spent more time actually cleaning my furniture lol. Frank is very professional and I enjoyed our conversation as he assembled my table. He texted me at 1:15PM saying he was leaving in 10 minutes to come to my house (from a local town). This was a bit frustrating as I had blocked off time from work to be home at 11:30AM, as per the original plan. He quoted us via text and I asked for the information formally (via email) as per my insurance providers request and I never heard back- ever. Maybe he didn't want the job... After a few more quotes I have to admit his was substantially higher (more than double) every other quote we received. Even though he had 1 5 star review, I felt good about giving this contractor a shot. Unfortunately, we wasted 2 afternoons accommodating for his arrival. We will not be trying back in the future.

I'm happy to say that this company is totally the opposite. I worked with Zack who was the project manager for the work. Very easy to talk to, explained what needed to be done and honest about recommending one way or another. Very formal about creating a contract and sticking with it. After the project started came everyday multiple times to check on the quality and progress of the job by his guy. I would totally hire this company for future work.
