Lashes at first love!!! I will forever be grateful for the best customer service and last minute accommodation provided. I texted at 7am and managed to get squeezed in for a 10:30 am appointment. It was my first time getting my lashes done and i was in a crunch because I was departing for vacation later that evening. Lashes are customized to the look that you want to achieve and they are not counted like most salons!!! My appointment took just under two hours, and it was spent on a warm and snugly bed. I went from my appointment straight to the airport and by the time I reached my departure gate, I was asked about my lashes by 3 girls! They asked me what I use on them to make them grow. I was happy about that, the lashes looked natural and full. The place is located in a room at the back of a barber shop so it was a bit confusing to find, so just keep that in mind! MiMi is AMAZING!! I've been going to her for a few months, every two weeks for my eyelash extensions. I went to another place before but wasn't happy so I went to her based off her Yelp reviews. I get compliments on my lashes all the time! The lashes themselves hold up really well- I profusely sweat during my workouts, I smush them in my sleep, heck I always break the "don't let them get wet for 48 hours" rule, and they always look great after a quick brush. WoW is right, and I am OBSESSED with my lashes and Mimi makes the experience worth every single penny! I know it sounds silly, but I've spent so much time and energy in search of a good mascara, and I've never been close to satisfied with my lashes even using four and five different formulas every day. And the TIME it took to do it! And the ENERGY I spent being concerned about my face looking okay! It might sound like a stretch to some people but I couldn't be PRESENT in my day to day interactions because I felt ugly if my makeup wasn't perfect. Maybe that sounds superficial but I've grown up with some deep, deep insecurities, and for some reason makeup could help me handle them. I have the ability to be truly present for my life now! I talk to people and I'm not worried or convinced they're thinking about how ugly I am! How my mascara is so obviously done well on one eye and not on the other, my liner is uneven, whatever, that doesn't cross my mind anymore! I am HAPPY with how I look, and in the morning I put on some tinted moisturizer and I walk out the door, because I'm not obsessing over how I look. I KNOW I look good, or at least I feel a confidence I've never had before. (So apparently this is super deep for a yelp review sorry not sorry y'all!) HERE'S THE BREAD AND BUTTAH: Mimi's attention to every single detail, her refusal to let anyone walk out the door without being ecstatic with their lashes, her willingness to work with some pretty difficult schedules, her bubbly personality and demeanor, I won't go anywhere else. Her prices are on par if not lower than any place I've seen, and her studio is like my sacred space! I did quite a bit of research on salons in the DMV before getting extensions, and I'm so glad I went with Mimi - she's amazing!! I've been coming to her every couple of weeks for a few months now. Her work is amazing, her prices are super reasonable and she is so accommodating with respect to scheduling an appointment. The salon is very clean and comfortable, and Mimi doesn't mind if you fall asleep while she's working (which I do almost every time). Let me preface this by saying that I have never gotten my lashes done here. I emailed the owner (Linh H) on yelp to ask about ingredients due to a latex allergy. I received a prompt response (hence the additional star) with information about ingredients, which was very helpful. I then asked about an allergy test so I could prevent a potentially devastating allergic reaction *on my freaking eyelids.* This is where it got worrisome. She emailed me back to say she'd be happy to do an allergy test- her version of which was charging me $25 to glue 10 eyelashes to each eye. To recap- I want to do a test patch to prevent a bad reaction on my eyes, and her response was to offer to smear the glue all over my eyelids. The standard is to do the inside of the elbow, where the skin is also thin and similar to the eyelids. I ask you- why would anyone with *any* sort of credible education, training, or common sense suggest I do an allergy test on the area I wanted to prevent a bad reaction? This was a bright, red flag that this person was inexperienced and more concerned with turning a profit than preventing a medical nightmare. I've been in touch with several other eyelash extension places, and not a single one of them suggested doing the test on the eyes or tried to charge me. I would suggest checking one of them out instead. read more
