The breakfast they serve was pretty good too, they had sausage patties, country potatoes, scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy. Although I live in Cloudcroft, every so often my husband and I like to rent a hotel and take a break from our kiddos, haha. I've stayed in this hotel twice and the pricing has always been around $130-$170 a night, with military discount. They do charge you a deposit also, I believe it's an extra $100 that you will get back after your stay. I personally prefer staying at Dusty Boots simply because it's usually cheaper and the rooms have more character but they don't serve breakfast, they only give you a slice of banana bread they make at the cafe. The Grand Hotel also has garage parking in case you want your car protected from the elements, good option for those snowy days. If you are traveling with a large group of people I recommend you rent a cabin or an Airbnb, but if it's just one person or a small family of 3-4, this hotel will do just fine, the beds are comfy and they have good breakfast, besides you're in Cloudcroft, chances are you will spend most of your time away from your hotel room anyways. Side note: for you smokers out there, you can only smoke outside of the hotel in the parking lot, you can't smoke at the sitting patio areas regardless that they are outside.

Just a short walk to the main strip, but we never heard any noise. We will definitely be back.

A few minutes later I received a call from Smokey Bear management letting me know the number of my room and the code for my room. When I called multiple times the next day to check out, the phone went to VM every time. If you're not going to be in the office during such short check-in hours, or for checkout, someone should at least be manning the cell phone. The room did not even remotely look like the colorful pictures on the website. Our room was drab and plain. The A/C unit worked very well. There was a nice basket of snacks. They allowed me to walk the hotel, have coffee and cookies, take in the historic site and relax. I asked could I see one of the rooms since online the pictures were great and they have kept the original look and feel. the manager said he had step better than a standard room. He handed me a key to look at the Governors suite (see video). I returned the next day after hiking to have lunch and peruse the gift shop. Prices are a little higher, however the food is pretty amazing. I split a burger and chips. Food is great in the bar area. Dinning opens in evening but requires reservations. Pets are allowed for Small fee There is a golf course across the parking lot. Majestic views and well kept greens. don't be surprised but if you find yourself golfing around the deer, elk or wild horses. If you're lucky, you may see snow which makes all that much more beautiful. There is rich history of the lodge hanging in the walls and in areas to read upon. This used to be timber country and the original lodge burned down years and years and years ago. While at the Lodge check out Cloudcroft museum to take in all the history that included the Lodge, baby sanatorium and 1st Calvary visits, where it all started this beautifully small town.

The tea/coffee station also had hot cocoa, microwave popcorn and night time tea options if you wanted a movie snack. Overall, we highly recommend staying here.

The "pull out" sofa sucked, it was quite hard and it was confusing trying to figure out how it folded out as it isn't your typical fold out sleeping sofa. You had to take all of the cushions and pillows off then grab two little handle things to flip the top half of the sofa onto the ground to open up the "bed" which is basically just a support box like you would put under a mattress. I also wish they had a slightly bigger trash can in the room, we have booked a suite for two nights with six guests in it and there was only one small can in the kitchenette and one small can in the bathroom. Breakfast was as you'd expect at a hotel. There wasn't a ton of seating so we ended up taking it back to our room.

They recently put in mini split ac units although we have not had to use them. It is mid July and our windows are open, it feels great. Sitting out front on the porch in the evening and by 6 o'clock my wife had to go get her jacket. When I sit and watch the sun rise over the mountains in the mornings I have to put 2 hoodies on,,,,,, in mid July! There is cafe diner out front and recently an ice-cream candy shop was added. This is a great place and a good price.

Stephanie does a great job making us feel welcome and at the same time, running a tight ship so that the place is both comfortable and secure. The area around the hostel is beautiful. I have had a bad experience staying in a hostel but my wife had never experienced one before. After some convincing we ended up booking with this hostel, and let me tell you I'm so glad we did! It was a very comfortable stay. Everyone respected everyone. We stayed in a private room and the bed was very comfortable. The hostel is right off the main road but surprisingly it was pretty quiet. We slept with the window open and had no problems. The hostel was very clean and the grounds were very well kept. Stephanie was very nice and communicative with us from the time of booking and throughout or stay. We would definitely stay here again and have already recommended to some friends.
