Buying a property…read moreis a stressful process and you always hear horror stories from people who've had terrible experiences so I was preparing for the worst. BUT, Elliot made me feel at ease and the process with him was smooth and painless right from our first meeting to when I received my keys! Even after I moved in, he checks in to see if I needed anything! He's very knowledgeable and has fantastic communication with super quick responses at any time of the day or night! He understood what I was looking for and gave invaluable advice and feedback which helped me make the right decision in the end! Elliot is honest, knowledgeable and hard working! Thank you Elliot!

My situation easily could have been put into one of those commercials and Elliot would be the hero realtor in the commercial that saved the day. The time finally came where I was ready to spend my hard earned savings on a home of my own. I started looking at places online but had no idea where to begin. That's where Elliot came in. As soon as I told him what I was looking for, and in what area, he began sending me listings in my price range. I couldn't believe it: of the first three listings he sent me, I knew I found my dream home. It was love at first sight. Elliot immediately booked a viewing for me and my fiancé. He booked us viewings for all the other listings we were interested in too. So the search began. After going to all these viewings, I still had my heart set on the one I fell in love with. It was time to put in an offer. We told Elliot how low we wanted to go and he respected our wishes. When the seller countered, we came back with another low offer. Elliot listened to our requests to still go lower. He let us know of the risks of going too low (that we could lose the place) but still countered, giving the seller reasons to take our lower offer. His persistence paid off and the seller agreed! Our experience wasn't over then though. We had issues with strata fees that were supposed to be included in the cost, mailbox keys that had gone missing, property taxes, etc. Elliot stood by us the whole time. He was quick to answer our texts, calls and emails no matter the time of day. He worked with us to make sure everything went smoothly, despite a lot of our issues not being part of his job. As stressful as our closing was, Elliot was always there for us and made sure that we were happy. Even after the closing, Elliot has still been there to answer further questions we've had. Thank you Elliot for helping us find our first home and for getting us through all of the hiccups. We couldn't be happier now and won't hesitate to have Elliot help us again when we're ready to upgrade.

Yaletown, Downtown

This is a long overdue review. I was looking for an investment property in Fall 2019. Having…read morealready bought / sold homes a few times over the last 2+ decades and thus have wide experience (good and bad) with different realtors, I tried to make this purchase on my own -- without a realtor. Long story short, in the end, I did work with a realtor. I chose Pete Shpak and I am still grateful 1 year later for all his assistance and advice. He's the best. Pete is a great guy - incredibly hard working and professional. You'll get that from reading all his other reviews. What really stands out for me is that Pete is value-added. He gave me information I didn't have access to - and I'm pretty good at research and digging for information on my own. Pete is a great listener. He heard me out and understood exactly what I wanted. He didn't waste my time. He knows what he is doing. He has opinions and will let you know what he thinks - but he doesn't force his views on you. He's also a brilliant negotiator. You can't go wrong. Two more reasons why Pete exceeds expectations and stands out from other realtors: (1) Pete understands the market; and (2) Pete knows his data. Pete was the first realtor in Vancouver who offered "previously sold" prices on the internet before other realtors started doing it. While assessed values of properties are available to everyone, only realtors had previously sold prices. I was digging deep on google for data on my own and was able to access Pete's data even before I met him!! It was only a coincidence we ended up speaking on the phone. During my search, Pete steered me towards a newer / popular building with a great reputation. It was very nice - but I found the unit small and expensive for price per square footage. I had wanted a larger footprint for that price. Nevertheless, I ended up buying the newer / smaller unit in January 2020 and inherited the tenant that came with the unit. Fast forward to end of August 2020 - my tenant advised she had to leave. Given the global pandemic (and landlords in the West End and Downtown were offering first & last months rent for free over summer 2020) I was prepared to have the investment unit sit empty. Boy - was I wrong. I had a dozen queries in the first 8 hours of posting and almost 40 interested renters over 2 days. Received 2 applications within the first 48 hours. There was a HUGE demand and I had NO IDEA. I found a wonderful new tenant within days after checking her references. Pete told me the building had a great reputation and was a solid investment for me. He was totally right! I'm not worried about having to rent that place out again if my current tenant decides to leave. I could go on about what a great, hard-working guy Pete is - but I'm sure his clients have got that covered in all the other reviews. Life has been busy and we've all had our issues to deal with - but now that 2020 is finally over, it will be nice to move on from last year. Pete was one of the silver linings from 2020 - someone I met and who brought value and good advice and someone I would be delighted to work with again should I have the opportunity to do so in the future. Thanks so much Pete!

We wanted a realtor who really knew the market, and understood what we were looking for. Pete was beyond responsive, listened to exactly what we wanted, and helped us find our dream home in record time. Can't imagine a better person to help find (or sell) a home in the Vancouver area. He's also one of the nicest people we've ever met, who went out of his way to help us. A truly great guy. Thanks for everything Pete! We'll talk to you again when it's time to sell!

Despite my living here in Vancouver for over 4 years now, I have never had any in-person…read moreinteractions or transactions with BCAA. My insurance broker set up all my various insurance policies with various companies, and I've simply dealt with him directly. That said, my vehicle is insured through BCAA and I recently had to amend my policy, as my kid is visiting for the summer and I want her to be put on my car insurance policy (so I don't have to be her personal chauffeur for the next 3 months!). So my kid and I recently ventured into this BCAA office, not knowing what to expect. All I can say is, our experience here in this office was stellar. We were greeted at the door by a guy behind a "welcome" counter. We advised him what we were there for and he directed us to the small waiting area. The whole office was immaculate, open, bright and welcoming. I particularly appreciated the small sign affixed to a desk corner, facing the comfy chairs in the waiting area, that provided the free wi-fi password. Nice! (Little things like that are so helpful). After a 5-10 minute wait, we were beckoned to a counter where a guy assisted us with our insurance issues. I wish I had gotten his name. He was SO helpful and SO nice and SO patient, explaining stuff to me (there were some features in my current policy I was unaware of). No pressure to upsell me on anything, but he wanted me to know what some of my options were, and he was extremely patient in explaining to me how my policy worked, how to get my kid OFF my policy when she returns to university in the fall, and the upcoming changes in BCAA policies and rate when my policy renews in July. Also, he went over the packet of insurance papers I had been keeping in my car's glove compartment and told me there were some that should NOT be kept in my car, as they had some sensitive information on them (financial account numbers, and more). Yikes, these forms have been in my car since I moved here. This guy really went above and beyond for me. Super nice. We were in and out of the office in 20 minutes. The whole process was so efficient and smooth. Thank you, BCAA, for helping us out!

If long, protracted telephone trees annoy you, do not call BCAA. I had to spend an interminable…read moreamount of time listening to the canned voice of a woman who sounded like Death Incarnate. I got sick of pressing 1 for this, 2 for that, 3 for something else.... only to receive another long message and a command to repeat my selection. Ad nauseam. Honestly, that female robot they have on there sounds as though she's being dragged to the guillotine. Be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait. ALSO don't bother walking into a BCAA office, hoping that someone will look after you as in years gone by. It always comes down to phoning for telephone assistance - or making an appointment. Note: The next day I tried again and this time I was told that someone would call me back if I didn't want to wait. I was instructed to punch in my 10-digit number starting with my area code. I began this process, but after entering my area code Ms. Death scolded me: 604 is not a valid number! I had to return to the never-ending hold queue. I am very very happy to say that I DID eventually receive assistance over the phone by a competent agent named Rita Li. She was wonderful. This one-star review is for the telephone system, not her.
