Predatory upsell at Signal Ave location: Refused single spark plug fix on my stranded 19-year-old…read moredaughter's car Review (1-star): This is a serious warning for parents, students, and anyone driving in/around Albuquerque--especially near UNM or the northeast heights area. My 19-year-old daughter was on her way from Farmington to the University of New Mexico when her check-engine light began flashing early one morning. She pulled over safely about 30 miles from campus--alone, scared, and hours from home. I called Brown's Automotive Experts and spoke with a man named Chris (at the 6401 Signal Ave NE / Far Northeast Heights location). Chris mentioned he has four daughters of his own and assured me he would "take care of her." That reassurance meant a lot in the moment. He called back with the diagnosis: one cracked spark plug causing the misfire. He then immediately recommended replacing all spark plugs plus a fuel-injection service--totaling $1,800. I asked for the price to replace just the spark plugs; he quoted $1,300. I explained we couldn't afford that and requested they replace only the one cracked plug so she could safely reach school and we could plan the rest later. Chris refused. The shop would not do a single spark-plug replacement. It was pay $1,300 for the full set or just the diagnostic fee--and they'd send her back on the road with the flashing light and misfire still active. They were ready to release a teenage driver with a known engine issue rather than perform the minimal, diagnosed repair. This felt like blatant upselling that took advantage of her vulnerability and my concern as a parent 150+ miles away. I've never posted a review this strongly, but I won't stay silent when a business exploits a young woman's roadside emergency to push unnecessary $1,300-$1,800 services. If you have college kids, teenage drivers, or travel through Albuquerque's northeast side, avoid Brown's Automotive Experts - Far Northeast Heights (6401 Signal Ave NE). Choose a shop that does honest, needed repairs without holding safety hostage. Brown's Automotive Experts - Far Northeast Heights 6401 Signal Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87113 Phone: (505) 857-0868 You've lost any future business from our family--and I hope others see this before they're in a similar spot.

I was concerned about this because my car is only a few years old and not much mileage. I came to Northside auto for verification and a 2nd opinion. Not only did this place save me a bunch of money but when I arrived I had a nail in my tire and they fixed it for me for practically nothing in 10 minutes! Being a single woman on a budget I was very appreciative that this place was honest and didn't try to take advantage of me. I've had been having trouble finding a reliable mechanic for over 8 months, knowing that I had at…read moreleast one engine oil leak, how bad I had no clue, but then I started to lose a quart of oil every week, so I knew something was wrong. I knew there was quite a bit wrong with my high mileage 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, but one step at a time with priorities. I love my car and have had it for 15 years now and don't plan for it to slow down any time soon. I came across their name under Overall Services Inc. in the North Valley of Albuquerque. One of the mechanics thought I was looking for a different shop down the road when I mentioned their name, because apparently, he only knew it as Wayne's Automotive Inc. I somehow came across their page with their number, probably using google, they had good ratings, gave them a call. Lisa answered the phone and she was delightful to talk to. She actually listened to what you were concerned about instead of the million other things she could have done, but she didn't. We talked, set up an appt. for Friday at 8:30 in the morning. When I met Lisa, the first thing I thought from not listening to her, but watching her actions. You could tell she was a busy person. Still, she treated me with the upmost respect and courtesy AND she actually listened to everything I had to say. I gave her a sheet of paper listing all the concerns that I had with my car and the parts that I had bought prior to showing up to their shop. She made copies of the sheet right away and gave it to the mechanics. The mechanics looked it over. They started to work on my car on Monday morning. It took them one day to make an estimate and I brought it back the next day, Tuesday. The car ended up having 3 oil leaks and not only did they install my oil pan gasket that I brought, they did a complete oil change with the oil filter, oil drain plug, and 5 quarts of high mile oil that I had bought. They added the Prolong engine treatment into my engine like I asked. They installed a new thermostat that I had. Put back on a plastic "Engine under cover" shield with two bolts. Figured the manufacturer put it there for a reason. They flushed my radiator with Dex coolant that I provided. With all that said, they did not charge me a Single PENNY for any of the parts that I brought and listened to my concerns and did exactly as I asked. Which should always be the case, but unfortunately these days it's hard to find. The only unexpected charges were the timing cover gasket set and extra labor hours for the oil leaks. But you want quality repair, right? Well you got to pay for that specialty. Not only did they do everything I asked, they went above and beyond. Let me explain why. For 1., I had an air filter in the trunk of my car, I was going to replace it sooner than later. Only takes 4 minutes. But they put it in for me with no charge. Not only did they replace my air filter. The day before I had to bring the car back to the shop, I accidently broke my driver's side mirror, which was actually just replaced like 2-3 months ago because my sister smashed my original one with a truck door. I had no expectations of them fixing it. I figured me and my dad could smash it out with a drill and a few bolts and nuts. Nope not needed. It was done, again, with no charge. My mirror was fixed! Expect some time for your vehicle to get settled into the shop and diagnosed or looked at and then for them to finally start working on your car. My intuition tells me that they are not trying to blow anyone off, if they ever give off that vibe, they are FOR 1. A very Busy Shop and it does take some time for them to figure out what's going on exactly. They don't want to give you bad information, so you have to wait longer. Lisa also goes out of her way to call multiple places trying to find the lowest price on parts you don't provide yourself. For instance, an issue that you weren't aware of and needs to be addressed. AND 2. Since they are a very busy shop, that most likely means they are good at what they do and get a lot of business, so if you want that same treatment, you have to wait in line, and Pay Mechanics for their specialty. Building a relationship with your car is important, you know what has and has not been done with it. I will be going to them for jobs that you have to have a mechanic to take care of from now on. Again, Highly Recommended. Yay! My engine got some loving, tender care and no more leaks! Hopefully, I prevented bigger expenses and extended the life of my engine! I think I'm only going to start using synthetic engine oil from now on and eventually pay for higher quality gas after a fuel system cleaning because it's an older car. Thank you, Wayne's Automotive Inc.!

It was just barely audible but I'm pretty weary about that kind of thing. The closest auto repair shop to us just happened to be Old Tow Tire and Automotive so we went there. I grew up in Rio Rancho but had never heard of the place. When we got inside we told them our situation and they were the friendliest staff of technicians and mechanics I have ever met. I do NOT like mechanics and usually do whatever it takes to avoid having someone other than myself make repairs on my vehicles but this staff went out of their way to squeeze us in to a packed schedule and began working on our vehicle almost immediately. They checked the tires and found that one of my front bearings in my front wheels had gone out. Rather than just telling me (like a regular mechanic) they brought the parts inside and showed me. I authorized the replacement of both of the front bearings as a precaution for a total of around 1000$ of parts and labor. (The entire hub had to be replaced not just the bearing). My wife and I waited for a little while but we ended up going to old town to walk around and see some of the New Mexico history and shops while we waited. Old town tire gave us a ride over there. We returned to the shop at around the time they told us they would be finished. They had repaired the front two hubs and asked me if I wanted the good news or the bad news. I asked for the bad. They told me that they inspected the rear hubs as well and that one of those had also gone out. I asked for the good news. They told me that they would be replacing it free of charge but that it would keep us there beyond their closing time. We had told them earlier that we had dinner arrangements with family in Albuquerque up on tramway and they remember this and offered to buy us an Uber to make our timeline while they continued to repair our vehicle (after they closed, something I have never seen a mechanic do). We made our reservation with our family and they called to let us know the vehicle was finished and that they had made arrangements for us to pick up the vehicle after hours. My wife and I are so thankful for the help and kindness that the staff at old town tire gave us. They have my highest recommendation.
