Disappointing trip, spent lots of time on relatively less important locations, skipped the major ones almost entirely. I was initially excited for my 13 year-old daughter to get to visit DC, and learn about & see first-hand the major events/people/memorials that shaped our country, as I had done at that age-and never really had the opportunity to do since, in such an organized and informative way. First red flag: jam packed schedule that combined several days' worth events into one. The kids got a photo op at the White House- from Pennsylvania Avenue. Members of the public can tour the White House, getting a closer look than my daughter's class flew across the country to see and do from the street. The schedule said they would visit the Smithsonian museums- they did not go inside even one! They sat on the grass eating ice cream instead for about two hours! No tattered Star Spangled Banner flag, no Wright brother's airplane. They did not get to see the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, or even approach the Capitol building. My daughter said of the monuments visited, the Lincoln Memorial was most impressive- but no one said a word to put this president and his enormous contribution to one of the most troubled times in our nation's history in any perspective! The kids were just instructed to climb the steps and look around for themselves! No word at the Jefferson or FDR monuments, either! But they spent an awful long time at the Korean War memorial, had a ghost tour of Alexandria, Virginia at night, and played mini golf for an afternoon, inexplicably! My daughter showed me a picture of the Supreme Court she had taken, and asked me what that building was! Even SHE, a middle school kid, said she was disappointed she did not learn more, and hardly anything was explained by the guides. This trip was NOT what this long-standing youth tour organization advertised it to be. read more

I honestly wish I could rate this ZERO stars. My daughter was accepted into the VERY expensive program, and we put all of our savings into sending her, it was her Christmas present and every penny we had. Thousands of dollars spent on the cost of the trip combined with travel expenses, clothing, shoes, luggage etc. On the day before she was supposed to leave a huge snow storm hit and no flights were leaving out of our area, all airports were shut down completely, so she could not attend. Dreams crushed, and my daughter was devastated. It has been months, and they refuse to refund me, they gave me HALF of what I spent and refuse to give me the rest back, after several people told me that I was getting a refund and they were working on an eta for me, then I find out I only get half my money back for something out of my control. Zero care given by this company. I also found out that some people in the same or similar situations received full refunds, so apparently they also discriminate on who they decide to refund. I am disgusted at the uncaring, unprofessional and ruthlessness of this so called "elite" program. Sickening. read more

GREED. This company is all about the $, do not use. My daughter's DC trip was canceled because of the Corona-Virus. WorldStrides is offering a 75% courtesy refund on a $1,009 payment. Two hundred kids on the trip, therefore, Worldstrides profits $250 for each cancellation. WorldStrides is being paid $50,000, for not providing the trip. If 40 schools cancel and Worldstrides profits $50,000 for each cancellation, WorldStrides receives $2,000,000. Why should Worldstride profit off of the Corona-Virus? I will voice my opinion to the Hanover School Committee that the Hanover Schools NEVER do business with this company WorldStrides do the right thing, compassion over greed. Thank you read more

This company is terrible. In the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, they deemed NY/DC a safe travel destination until the beginning of March for my daughters 8th grade class. Once they publicly announced their 'postponement' of trips, they have refused refunds as they are stating that the school districts made the choice to postpone. Their terms and conditions state if THEY postpone a trip more than three days from scheduled departure, they are required to give a full refund. (And for California residents it states cancellation by the company is a full refund as well!) But because most school districts stopped travel, they are using that as a ploy to keep funds, stating that they did not postpone or cancel. What is worse, is in our District our travel was not District funded and considered private; so even though THEY postponed, they are still trying to use this entire scheme as a way to not refund all these families. They are attempting to reschedule for July 19-26th, with no clue as to when all of this will actually settle in our nation. They are using semantics to avoid refunds for everyone in the Nation. We need to expose this company! People are getting laid off, unable to work or support their children, and World Strides is more concerned about their bottom line. I hope that school districts stop using this company! read more

Ponzi scheme. Conmen who keep ALL your money -- even if you were just a Parent Chaperone -- and never went to DC at all bc of worldwide pandemic! Parents scrounge to pay their overblown fees, and WorldStrides just STEALS your money. Their hard costs for a cancelled land-only trip are ZERO. Yet WorldStrides has kept MILLIONS from enraged "customers" like use who NEVER WENT ON THEIR TRIP at all. WorldStrides should be forced to pay us back. It is time to take action against these thieves. read more

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! We were very unhappy with our son's 8th grade trip for the following reasons: * Exhausting pace - There were far too many activities packed into a short 6 days. The itinerary had kids going from sunrise to hours past sunset. They were too cranky and exhausted to enjoy or learn from the planned activities. A Chevy Chase "Vacation" schedule is funny on film but not in real life. WorldStrides should consider quality of activities over quantity, or add days to the trip to ensure a more reasonable pace. * Missed activities - Some of the things my son was most looking forward to were cut short (30 minutes or less to attend something that requires hours to truly enjoy and absorb) or missed altogether due to the unreasonable schedule. These included Ellis Island and The 9-11 Museum. However, plenty of time was allotted to shopping on 5th Avenue - something that should have been skipped * Too many children in 1 hotel room - There were 4 boys rooming together in 1 hotel room. This means that the mornings must start even earlier than the departure times to allow all 4 boys to get time in the bathroom for a shower, etc. WorldStrides should only place 2 children in a room. * Broadway show not suited for this age group - On this trip, the children saw the Broadway show On Your Feet. This show is based on the lives and music of Gloria and Emilio Estefan. 13 year olds have no idea who these people are and are not at all familiar with their dated music. There are many other shows on Broadway that would have been more relevant and entertaining to 13 year old students. My son enjoys live theater (he attends a performing arts school), but in this case he slept through most of the show due to boredom and being extremely tired from the hectic schedule. I have written to WorldStride's customer service department and their response has been to disregard our concerns and tell me what they think of the trip. I WOULD AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. read more

Worldstrides has proven to be a company that is not concerned about customer service or how they lack of response to refunds may impact their customers. We have been waiting for over 5 weeks and paid for the insurance. I would not recommend this company to anyone. If I can give this company no stars I definitely would! Parents DO NOT TRUST them with your minors they left my daughter stranded in another State sleeping on Airport floor. BEWARE! My daughter was on a trip from Washington to New York everything was going smoothly as planned until they left the Hotel in New York the trip took a horrible turn. Their flight got cancelled back home to California we understand it happens that part could of been the airline's fault. It was unbelievable how this Company responded. They told the Teacher claim your luggage and we're sending you a bus give us some time to coordinate Hotel etc. t he bus will arrive in 30 minutes nothing arrived the whole group was waiting promptly on time. After they hung up with the teacher they never replied to any phone calls from the teacher nor the desperate parents that were calling through the night. The teacher coordinated a flight back directly with airline until the next day 10 am the whole group arrived at 6pm the previous day. Do to not having transportation and no Hotel room to stay they were stranded at the airport. The other headache was their checked in luggage traveled back to California before the group did. Horrible predicament they put our children and families through. They did not abide by keeping our kids Safe as they claim to do. Not to mention after calling the emergency line kept sending us to voicemail and we never got a call back that night until the following day 2pm and she had no answers for me the representative said she would call me back in 15 minutes till this day weeks later no call back other than a ridiculous email for a few hundred dollar refund versus the almost 3 thousand dollars we paid them. STAY AWAY from this company. read more

We have purchased insurance for our trip but a pandemic is not covered. Our trip was canceled over 100 days in advance due to the pandemic. After much fighting the company offered a partial refund, they are keeping $500 per traveler. They said we could re-book the following year but majority of students will be graduating. Their answer was for the parents to sell the voucher to upcoming students. I understand some cost but having to collect over $15,000 to cover cost is unacceptable. I strongly suggest finding another company to use for group trips. read more

As an educator of many decades, I would never use this company's services. After I donated $50 for a trip which had to be cancelled, they have refused to refund my money. My 8th grade daughter fell asleep on the bus on the way to dinner one evening of her school trip to Washington DC. She woke up completely alone, locked on an empty bus parked somewhere in The DC area, over a thousand miles from home, not knowing where her classmates or teachers were. She had to text a friend for help, and the bus driver came and got her and escorted her to the restaurant. Another friend estimated they'd been in the restaurant for an hour - it was long enough that almost everyone in her group (76 students, 6 teachers) had ordered and finished eating. When I called to report the incident to customer service, the agent said "well this wasn't our company, we contract out the driving to one or two other companies. We can't control what they do." What??? When I said you are responsible for your subcontractors, she then proceeded to put the blame solely on the teachers. The funny thing is I didn't call to blame someone. I just wanted Worldstrides to ask the drivers to do a sweep of the bus before they leave it unattended. This is common practice for school bus drivers and seems like common sense to me. read more

They say it is easy to cancel, "no questions asked" but they do ask and charge several hundred dollars for the privilege to cancel. It is not at all easy and they give you the runaround. I was told 2-3 weeks. I called at 2-3 weeks and was told 4-6 weeks. Bad business practices. read more

My child just returned from a terrible trip, that was not cheap. There were 70 students plus chaperones, taking two charter buses. They left the school to start their trip, just two hours later, the one bus broke down, couldn't be fixed, and then they waited an hour and half for a replacement bus. This delay caused them to reach their destination 4 hours later than planned, causing them to miss a exciting, honored event. Then when it was time to leave and travel back home. Not even half way home, one bus got a flat tire, causing another delay. Then back on the road, and they stop to change drivers and continue on. The kids also changed buses, since only the one bus had charging outlets for them to charge their phones, since the delays were exceeding their battery life, but of course, the outlets didn't work. Homeward bound now, but of course they can't just make it without another incident(s). The one bus kept overheating, so they had to make several stops to add water to the radiator to make it home. They finally got home about three and a half hours after they were to be home. The students were all beyond frustrated, but not near as much as the adults on the trip, as well as us, the parents, waiting at home. All of the excitement from a once in a lifetime experience were damped by the terrible transportation. The kids then missed a day of classes, beyond their expected day, because of their late return, which was approximately 2:30 am. I, along with many others, are terribly upset with the transportation selection made by World Strides. Any decent company would have their buses checked thoroughly prior to a 12 hour+ trip, including tires. I'm certain that the executives of World Strides would never go anywhere and travel on these buses. I definitely would not recommend Word Stridplan to ever use them again. ***As seen below, Jeff had asked that I email him directly to address the matter; I never heard back from him or anyone in the company. Proving again, what poor service they provide**+ read more

SHAME on the WorldStrides' REPRESENTATIVE here on Yelp, who STOPPED communicating! Although maybe, he was actually SHOCKED to DEATH after finding out that my original review was completely true, and therefore has stopped all communication... Unless, he was possibly STUMPED SILENT, after learning that another of their "teacher tour leaders, which supposedly "do not receive any benefits from their trips" had posted, just a few days after we were taken to the same "Souvenir Shop" which I was told was "Not a "pre-arranged" business on our WorldStrides tour..." had actually posted a review here on Yelp, & even geotagged her review, while in the store! (see below or review of Joe's Souvenir by Vanessa V) which even states how she was given a special discount for her purchase! Once again, WorldStrides has been shown that they DO NOT CARE that our whole tour were NOT taken INTO or even OUT of our bus as was promised on our itinerary! WorldStrides and their Teacher Leaders are so money hungry, that they have yet to even give our group the "Journals" that were part of our "ALL-INCLUSIVE" tour! I was asked to leave a review about worldstrides. I was highly disappointed in this trip and disappointed with expressing my concerns with the program and with no word back from them. The trip is very expensive costing over $5,000 for me and my son. I could not find a thing of the trip that totaled that amount. When raising the money I contacted the program for a cost break down of the trip and they said they had nothing like that, after attending the trip July of 2019 I seen why. 1. Washington: the entire trip to DC was free, every museum you go to is free. The only cost was the hotel, flights, food and bus. 2. Food: you are left completely starving they only feed everyone fast food, sandwiches and hotel breakfast. Nights where I had to stop at local restaurants to feed the students. 3. New York: a huge disappointment due to the other school that the program pairs you with. We missed important sitings like the Statue of Liberty and the observation deck. 4. The other school: I was excited to hear we were going to experience our trip with another school until we met them. We experienced racism from them, they were belching and farting in the tattoo show in Washington and the broadway show in NYC, there teachers & principal never took care of them, they ran up and down the hallways of the hotel, they were late every morning to our meet up time, made us late to every excursion and outing. They were never held responsible for there actions, which made our students miss things that were on our itinerary. 5. Health risks & weather: the program did not take in the health risks of the heat. It was extremely hot to visit the cemetery and yet we exposed to walk miles in the extreme heat and the program person and teachers joking of kids fainting in the extreme heat. The program person even jokingly threatened about well if you pass out and you go to the hospital no NYC for you. Extremely rude and unprofessional. Some things I really liked about the trip were the hotels definitely no bad reviews on them. The rooms were nice and comfortable and the staff at each hotel were very nice. And our bus driver made the trip fun, he was nice and funny and after a long trip of walking he made it worth getting on that bus and going on another excursion. UPDATE: Jeff C. Wrote below to private message, I have privately messaged them and spoke to worldstrides all they would do is send my complaints to higher management. I guess I may have better luck with the better business bureau. read more

the amount of things that went wrong on my trip with world strides first money for every meal was promised but I still had to pay for some meals and one day nobody got dinner. then my group was going to the airport and we didn't get a bus so we were late them the person who was supposed to meet us with our bags was 45 minutes late and left 14 bags in the drop off area unsupervised. then the person we called to deal with it said it was difficult for her yeah sure it was. additionally my fundraising money for the trip in February was not given to me. you would think it was their first time read more

Recently went with my 13 year old son to Boston and New York as part of the school trip managed by Worldstrides. Overall experience was good, but very concerned with some safety, especially in New York. Our hotel was centrally located a few blocks from Times Square; which is fantastic, but when traveling with a big group of teens, it makes it difficult to navigate the streets in a safe manner. We where walked through the middle of this section after our Broadway show; late at night, and the amount of people present made the walking journey very unsafe, to the point that our group was separated from our tour guide. Thankfully we knew how to get back to the hotel. I recommend in future to have the group walk one block to the left from the theater and avoid all the crowd of such a busy block. Lastly, a "Hop on/off" bus would be ideal to really see New York and not waste so much time walking that takes away from visiting and enjoying the sites. read more

My daughter just returned from her trip to Boston through Worldstrides and her school. She was not happy with the trip and said it was so disorganized. 3 schools went and Worldstrides would break up the groups randomly every single day. Several times my child was forced to go with another school instead of her own and she had already been on that excursion the day before. Once her and her roommates were left at a tour site by the bus driver. The other school was put on the bus but since she went with a different set of kids every day, they didn't know who was on their bus, it kept changing and no head counts were ever done to make sure all kids were accounted for. They didn't get far (I'm talking to the end of the street) before they realized 4 kids were missing but still, my child could have been left alone far from the hotel. Their tour guides were not knowledgeable and one older man in particular seemed angry to her. He was rude, yelled a lot, wanted to cut the tour sites early and get back on the busses. At Harvard he apparently went on a passionate rant about how the kids should attend Harvard and if they get accepted they better be appreciative and lucky they get to go. He was red in the face, yelling and stomping during his lecture. That was a little weird. There were a few tour sites they didn't even go inside of like Paul Revere's house. Why pay for a history tour if you are just going to look at the outside? My child said many times they were given $15 and told to go off and find food alone. No chaperones, no Worldstrides employees and no teachers to keep an eye on them. She just wandered around with her roommates looking for something to eat or go shopping. She could've easily gotten lost or worse. The promise of Worldstrides to have employees with the kids at all times and to guard the hotel at night also fell short. We were told Worldstrides employees would have a night shift that would be stationed in the hotel on the floor the kids rooms were on and they would watch the stairs and elevators to make sure no kids left and no strangers came up. One night my child's aunt and uncle (who live in Boston) decided to come surprise her, unbeknownst to me. They walked right into the hotel and right up to her floor and knocked on her door. No one from Worldstrides stopped them, in fact my sister-in-law said no one was guarding anywhere in the hotel and yes this was at night (around 9:30-10pm) After a day of touring and the kids got back to the hotel, they were required to prop their hotel doors open! My daughter just wanted to shower and go to bed but they weren't allowed to. The hotel doors stayed propped open until 9pm when they were finally allowed to close them. What is up with that?! I would not recommend this company/tour group to anyone. My other child will not be going on her school trip with Worldstrides after everything that went wrong. I don't trust them with my child. read more

While I believe it is beneficial for kids to have travel experiences with their peers, the cost just does not justify what they actually receive. The meals were all subpar. So much so that most of the kids got sick on the trip or when they returned. Couple that with them sharing 4 people to a room and you understand why people are angry with this company. Many sites were not toured just seen from the outside. They must be minting money. read more

Currently on the WorldStrides Costa Rica trip. Nightmare from day one. The cost cutting approach of this company is insane. At roughly $4500 a head and around 30 people, they are playing with about $125,000, and provide a terrible experience. Red eye flight, no breakfast or room upon arrival, a death march around a San Jose ghetto, was our introduction. Our guide, Bernie overslept and picked us up an hour late..... We are merged with a group of alternative high school kids ( no choice) , foul language, drugs, sex in the pool and a horrible presence on the junior high students. No porter service, disgusting buffets served at room temperature. Many sick kids. Despite 25 flavors of ice cream we are allowed one flavor coconut because some idiot in Virginia decided to save money. The bus electronics are not functioning however the driver is excellent. I wish I could give zero stars BEWARE of this company do your homework before you give them money. My daughter's class was heading to D.C. and when we received the paperwork there was two companies to select and we picked Worldstrides. There was an option to get a refund less a $200 + dollar cancellation fee. Back at the end of December or the 1st few days of January we called to cancel. We were informed to send a email to cancel. We were told that the refund would get credited back on our card and it would take 4 to 6 weeks. Well here we are at the 6 week mark. We decided to call and find out when will the credit show, is it credited on a certain day or time and will we be notified?? Well we heard crickets. With that we did a sesrch of reviews and there was some good but a lot that were alarming. I'm trying this first and if no refund is credited today I will go to my school districts board meeting and present the board members with this issue. The board should know what past reviews state. If i could give negative stars, I would. Horrible, unprofessional handling of the COVID-19 situation. My daughter had a great time, but there are some real issues to be addressed. I'm giving 4 stars because she had fun, but there are things other parents should know. First off, for the price I think my kid should have had her own bed. Second, the trip should have been a bit longer for the amount they are trying to pack in. Either that or scale it back. (They had a red eye flight there with a full itinerary the next day then flew back the same day they had a full itinerary and came back super late so that families had to pick up the kids at 1am on a week night.) She didn't have time to really experience the museums. Fortunately she had a great teacher and chaperones who made the trip great for her. This travel agency seems to specialize in school trips. Twice our schools had to cancel trips due to insufficient enrollment (not their fault). Having paid the full price in advance to get their discount, I have had to fight to get the promised refund. Their website "contact us" section did not respond to inquiries. They had not correctly informed their customer staff that the trip was cancelled and refunds were due. I spent way too long on hold just trying to get staff who could resolve the problems. Very frustrating experience and it may still take up to two months to get our refund. Even after getting them to acknowledge that refunds were due, they said they would keep part of the fee until the school intervened on parents behalf to get a full refund. I would never suggest paying anything up front to this company unless you are willing to endure their inefficiency and wait forever for their staff to process refunds. read more

I cancelled my son's 8th grade DC trip in April 2020 because I knew this whole pandemic was going to drag on. They sent me an email confirmation of my cancelation stating that refunds would be issued several weeks after the date the trip was originally scheduled for. The trip was scheduled for October 2020, so I patiently waited from April to November to get my refund. During that time, I also got a notification that my account had been updated. I logged into my account and it showed the trip was now scheduled for October 2021. This was puzzling because my son is no longer even a student at the school that planned the trip, and by October 2021, he won't even be in 8th grade anymore. I called them back in November and they denied having any record of my cancelation from April. I had to submit my cancelation all over again and finally, 12 weeks later, I received a refund, MINUS my trip insurance! I don't see how they justify keeping the trip insurance when it is no fault of anyone's that the trip didn't happen due to a global pandemic. I also don't see how they are rescheduling trips into different years on a whim, or altering accounts of kids who aren't even attending the same school district anymore! read more

I spent well over $4000 for me and 2 kids to go to DC. We had 4 buses that were unacceptably different in condition. The elite one had comfortable, partial leather seats, phone charging ports at every seat, was beautiful, comfortable temp, bathrooms usable, clean and new. Ours was dirty, seat fabric torn, old and junky, NO phone charging areas, hot with AC rarely working or not turned on, and broke down leaving us stranded. I paid 3 times what people on the 1st bus did, yet ours was, by far, the worst of the 4. If you are going to send 4 buses of the same group on an expensive trip, you'd better make sure they are comparable because this was ridiculous and we (on the pathetic bus) should have received a discount. Food was mediocre, visits to each place very rushed, things were frequently disorganized and communication between employees was lacking. There were serious violations among their employees, one causing a driver to be fired during the trip, but I won't pin employee behavior on the company. Our tour guide did his best and I enjoyed talking to him and visiting DC, but this company and their planning and execution of a trip wasn't anywhere near the value of the price we paid, nor the professionalism or the trip quality we expected and should have received. read more
