Nice campground, great store nearby (Carrol's Sausage). We travel from Florida to camp there just to shop the store!

If you're familiar with the history of the Civil War, you know that as the Confederacy in Richmond…read morefell, the President of the CSA escaped with the intention of reuniting with the Confederate Army and continuing the fight. Jefferson Davis and his party were on the run from Richmond, continuing through North Carolina and Georgia. Union forces caught up with him here in Fitzgerald on May 9, 1865 and he was arrested. There is a monument marking the exact spot on this 13 acre historic site which includes a short walking trail, a gift shop and a museum. It is an interesting site and worth an hour though it is a bit of a journey off the Interstate. I've been to a number of Confederate sites, seen endless memorials across the South (and the North), battlefields including Gettysburg, Antietam and Chickamauga, and even the Davis home in Biloxi. This is interesting if you are interested in the War Between the States. [Review 1051 of 2024 - 719 in Georgia - 22079 overall]

I sought this out as I drove north enroute to Nashville, Tennessee on I-75. It is a twenty minute drive off the highway and offers a small museum and a nature walk. Just walking the grounds is peaceful, with the sounds of nature surrounding me and the sun lazily falling upon me. If you have the time in your travels, seek these spots out. You will be better for the experience.

He loved being stationed here before leaving this Military base when he got orders to head to a different base to serve there. This is a big base for everything such as tanks, trucks and many more. Your allowed to drive thru this area but do NOT STOP unless you want 585757 Military Police officers asking you questions. Yes some of the Military vehicles been over seas and you can see some that been damaged by mortar attacks, IED's/Road side bombs and etc. They have a Military Exchange located on the base close to the Military Police building on the other side of the road. Also they do have a gasoline pumps on site which is nice for the families who are stationed here who want to fill up with fuel before heading out or coming home. Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany is one of seven commands under Marine Corps Installations East (headquartered at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina) and the proud home of Marine Corps Logistics Command and Marine Depot Maintenance Command/Production Plant Albany. Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany is dedicated to supporting the warfighter by providing high quality, cost-effective installation support services to its tenant commands. The base's priority is to its tenants, whose focus of effort is the warfighter. Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany is also committed to providing its service members, civilian-Marines and families a safe and secure environment to work and live, thereby increasing quality of life for all. The base will be environmentally conscious and look for ways to decrease use of non-renewable energy sources to increase security and reduce cost. The base will reach out to the surrounding community to find ways to share common goals and values, and will build relationships that are good for the Corps and the community, which will last far into the future. Marine Corps Logistics Command is currently the largest tenant organization aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia.

Primitive CAMPING AT THE PARK…read more Memorial day weekend Absolutely love to stay really beautiful, super peaceful and quiet at night other than it being Memorial Day weekend once that cooled down absolutely amazing Camp site We got one of these smaller sites. I wanna say we were at number 10. It was very nice, but it is very unlevel so putting up a tent and walking around in the tent was rough on your feet because it was nothing but roots sticking up out of the ground Luckily enough, we were primitive camping, but still did take an air mattress, but if you were sleeping in a sleeping bag, this would have been a huge problem Something to think about four people who go to primitive camping, but glamp with generators lights, etc. be considerate of your neighbors yes, we do understand that. It was memorial day weekend, but our neighbors had a generator and lights on bright enough You could probably see it from the moon. Even after they went to bed, left their lights on! They were quiet and really kept to themselves even with the children they had with them, but it was not very primitive due to that was a huge bummer to hear a generator going all night long and to be lit up like Fort Knox Also, one of the problems with that is, we were specifically told that even if it was a battery powered generator, they were strictly not allowed, but yet there was clearly that rule is not enforced ADULT Noises Again, memorial day weekend there's drinking going on but for my first time experience here without going into detail, some people sound like chickens being strangled when it's ADULT TIME and you may want to pack a pair of headphones for your small children so that when they hear animals of the night, that sound like rabbits fighting for their life in the tent next to you that they are not scared by the two legged wildlife if you know what I mean lol Roads/car traffic/ATV Traffic was busy again. I'm going to say it was because of the fact that was memorial day but speeding is a major problem if you're planning on walking your little ones to the bathroom you will need to keep a hold of them because it's NASCAR from ATVs to side-by-side they go fast Bathrooms Clean BUT you can see through the curtains which made me really nervous because in my brain if I can see you, you can see me so I ended up bringing clothes pens and a super big beach towel to hang over the curtain Washer and dryer There is a washer and dryer on site that is free to use. It's pretty awesome because nobody really leaves their clothes in there too long and everyone shares it amazing. Lake/fiahing Fishing was absolutely amazing. There's multiple different boat ramps that you can go in Fish off of or you can bank Fish. Do keep in mind that you will need your fishing license because we did get stopped an the 2 men next to us did get a hefty fine for fishing without a license With this being said, I do plan to go again, but I'm going to try to veer away from Big holidays, just due to the fact of the strangled chicken situation
