I went to Ashley, Bassett and La-Z-Boy first. None of them had a recliner that would fit me. For…read moresome reason, the backs of all the recliners were so short that my head was hanging off the back when I reclined. (I'm only 6'2" and 220 lbs, so, barely bigger than average.) Plus, the cost didn't seem consistent with the quality. At my wife's request, we made our final stop at Recline and Design before giving up and going home. The owner of Recline and Design, TJ, was great. I very bluntly told him what I wanted and how much I wanted to spend, and he walked me right to the recliner I've had in my living room for the last year. The price was fair, (almost half of the other stores), and with a good warranty. TJ helped my wife pick from hundreds of different fabrics, and I left happy. Delivery was free and without any issues. Now I can reline with my head resting comfortably against the back of my chair without having to build a multi-pillow head support system every time I lean back. Nice. Recently, I had a small issue with the chair. I dialed the number and braced myself for the inevitable argument I was expecting to have. Nope! TJ was cool, apologized for the trouble and scheduled a free repair visit where he'll come to my house and fix it himself. You don't see that kind of customer service anymore! So, I had to write a review. Go see TJ. He's a good dude.

I hardly know where to begin in writing this review. In JUNE of last year, we ordered some very…read moreexpensive shades from Ethan Allen in Fredericksburg for our asymmetrical windows in our great room. From the start, so many things went wrong with this order. Such as: misinformation/confusion from the sales person as to which shades could or could not work in our windows, a grumpy installer who had to come back several times to get the measurements right, poor installation (one of the shades would not operate correctly), the wrong-sized shade that had to be recut and reordered. Hunter Douglas is supposed to be the premier shade manufacturer and I don't know if the problem lies with Hunter Douglas or with the local store who did not seem to know what they are doing and made little attempt to make this right for us. As of right now, January 2021, we are still missing one of the shades that had to be recut because of an error in the measurements. The order was originally placed in the summer of 2019. So we have been waiting for 7 months for completion! You would think the sales person would offer us some kind of remuneration, or would do something to expedite this last section of blind, but that has not happened. I will say that the shades that did manage to get installed look very nice. I will also say that our windows are very oddly shaped. But still ... we could have taken a little vacation on the money we spent on these drapes, not to mention the aggravation of trying to get it all done correctly. I wish I had shopped around. The attached pictures shows one of the shades that would not operate correctly after the installation.

I was…read morelooking for a recliner combo and Mr. Larry Stewart was right there with some suggestions and helped us make the right choice. He walked us through the purchase process and helped to schedule delivery. The store was very clean and all of the Home Furnishings Consultants were nice, polite, and patient. The cashier/scheduler was super friendly and very helpful. The scheduler called about a week after our purchase to let me know that an earlier delivery date was available and did I want it. The delivery team called the morning of delivery and let me know they were 30 minutes out. The arrived a few minutes early and brought the sofa in, set it up, had us test the recliner and lights. All in all an awesome experience. Recommend VCF highly, and Mr. Larry Stewart as your representative.

Legacy Worth Protecting--Why Let It Slip? As someone who…read moredeeply values family legacy and community trust, I'm disheartened by the volume of unresolved complaints on here and poor reviews surrounding Value City and other Furniture stores--especially when reading from resources, it's part of the Schottenstein family's long-standing retail heritage. They also own DSW and others. The Schottenstein name carries weight. It represents decades of entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and leadership in American retail. So, it's hard to understand why a company rooted in such values would allow its reputation to erode through repeated customer service failures, delivery issues, and lack of follow-through--many of which are documented across Yelp. I walked into Value City Furniture with $2,200 in store credit from a previously returned product that I paid for. and a $9,000 credit limit--ready to make a purchase. But I had misplaced the physical card tied to the credit. The store manager could see the credit was mine, yet told me I could not use it without the card. No empathy. No effort to help. Just a cold refusal: "We can't do anything unless you have the card." It was like going into your bank with a 2200.00 balance and being told that because you lost your debit card, you can no longer use your balance and given no resolution to replace the card. I felt I was met with attitude because I returned a mattress that I could not sleep in during the trial period. I was sold on the verbal promise that I had 120 days and I could return the mattress. I trusted and believed the wonderful sales lady who sold me over $8,000.00 in product. After waking up with crippling back pain, I tried to return the mattress and was met with resistance and advised I had to continue to sleep and suffer for at least 30 days, and that they had a no-refund policy. When I ask what happened to the grantee's 120-day return policy. I was then shown the fine print on the contract that you get a one-time reselection. The marketing of Grantee's 120-day Return without advertising a no-refund policy in one sentence or statement was a strategic marketing deception. A cheaper mattress may be worse, and a more expensive mattress selection would have been non-returnable. So, I requested store credit, and I was denied, and told taking another mattress was my only option. I didn't request or feel I needed to sit down with an attorney before giving payment after spending hours with my trustworthy store rep. I trusted that she had told me everything I needed to know. She left out the one-time reselection and the money, non-refundable part. I had to involve the BBB to receive an in-store credit for the amount I paid for the mattress. I returned home feeling stunned. How could a company just deny me access to my own money? It was like a bank that can see you have 2200.00 in your account, but the bank tells you it will remain there until you find your debit card, with no offer of a solution for the lost card. Later, I found the cards. On the back, it clearly states: "If this card is lost or stolen, the remaining balance may be replaced." So, I returned to the store, to make sure the cards were still active because I had called their headquarters, hoping for a resolution. I wanted to make sure they didn't cancel out the lost card. Instead, I was met with the same cold demeanor. No eye contact. No welcome. Just: "Your cards are still active." No effort to re-engage me as a customer. No attempt to earn my trust--or my business. Maybe it was because they only want customers who will not reject bad business practices and accept being taken advantage of without speaking up. This wasn't just poor service. It was a missed opportunity. If I were managing that store, I would have said: "Let me call headquarters and see what we can do." I would have shown empathy, offered solutions, and maybe even introduced a sales rep to help me use the $9,000 credit line I had available. That's what good service--and good salesmanship--looks like. Instead, I left feeling like my presence didn't matter. Like my money didn't matter. And that's a shame, because the furniture appears beautiful. But beauty without integrity is a hollow brand. The Schottenstein family built a legacy on trust, entrepreneurship, and service. If this is the direction their stores are heading--cold, transactional, dismissive, and shady--it's not just disappointing. It's tragic. I no longer feel safe doing business there. I fear retaliation is possible through damaged goods, delayed delivery, and then pushed toward the same warranty company so many others have warned about. I don't know what to do now, because I no longer trust the company that is holding my money or their product that the reviewer is complaining about. Save the Legacy and the designers of the furniture, and practice good business. Please! I hate to see a store closing. --

After visiting several furniture stores, we finally found a sectional we liked at Ashley, and…read moreoverall had a positive experience. A big thank you to Branddie for helping us through the process. We had interacted with several sales associates during multiple visits, but her friendly, helpful, and low-pressure approach made all the difference. She answered our questions without being pushy, which made us feel comfortable moving forward with the purchase. One downside is the delivery fee structure, it's percentage-based instead of a flat rate, so costs can add up quickly on larger purchases. Also, like most furniture stores, there's a strong push for furniture protection plans (from managers and other sales people). Thankfully, Branddie mentioned it professionally without applying pressure. Finally, value can vary. You can find some decent deals depending on the time of year, but Ashley isn't known for its prices. Shop around and don't rush if something isn't on sale. Overall, your experience at Ashley can depend a lot on who you work with, and Branddie comes highly recommended from us, and made our experience a great one. I'd definitely recommend working with her!

After waiting for about three weeks, 75% of our order was finally delivered. However, our dining table and two sets of chairs are now being rescheduled for delivery in another week, at best. We took two weeks off of work to settle into our new home, but now we'll need to take additional time off just to receive the final piece of furniture. (They do not deliver on weekends) If you're in the market for furniture, I'd strongly recommend ordering online with another company if you want a delivery that doesn't take nearly a month. Your chances of getting it within two weeks are much higher than purchasing in-store, especially here. Additionally, the post-sale service has been a nightmare. It's nearly impossible to track your order or get updates on delivery delays. When you do call, the store rarely answers on the first attempt, and when they do, you're met with an unhelpful attitude, as if you're the inconvenience. Overall, this has been an extremely frustrating experience, and after this, we will never be purchasing from Ashley's again.
