Some colleagues of mine were looking for Zumba classes close to our office in Burnaby, and we tried…read morethis place. The workout is great, you will sweat a lot and will just go all out trying to keep up, but in a good way. I've taken zumba classes at other places, and let me just say it's good that I did to learn some of the basic moves. The instructors are just a burst of energy. At first the dark and club lights are a bit cheesy but then you realize you just are trying to follow and not caring about how you look in the mirrors. I highly recommend this place if you want to take zumba at a faster pace, and they do have beginner classes if you are starting out. I only wish they had a bit more hip-hop moves, but then again I'm like usually the only dude in the class every time I go so my opinion is a bit of a minority. Only negative is, you can bring your kids which parents do, but unfortunately they tend to run around all over the place at times, and may sometimes get in the way of the class which can be annoying, so I recommend taking the classes after 7pm or the weekend where there are less kids. Also sometimes the floor can get really slippery with your sweat and you may slip depending on your shoes. When it's dark you can't see the ground so I'm still trying to figure out which shoes are the less slippery or is the floor, I'm not sure if it's my shoes, but sometimes other people have the same problem. I think they need to buff or wax the floor a little better maybe, I don't have this problem with other dance studios, so I'm not sure if others have this issue. Either way this place is a great workout, drop in is like $12 and you can get 10 class punch cards for ~$80. There are a lot of classes to fit your schedule and the instructors are great. I think this is a great fitness class to compliment my hip-hop classes that I do, except being a dude I tend to be a bit ugh when those moves get feminine, but hey it's a great workout and that's why I like zumba. If you like salsa and Latin music check it out.

I started coming here late April when I bought the Groupon for 10 classes. After my first class I…read morewas hooked, the studio is HUGE compared to another class I took downtown at urban fitness. Let's start with the studio - there are tons of cubby blocks so you don't have to scramble for a locker/space to put your things. Even when it's a full class there is always room. There are huge fans set up all around the studio so on the hot days you can still position yourself in a place where you get the breeze (it's so nice to have this since the workouts are pretty intense and you will definitely get your sweat on if you're really committing to the moves) The Teachers are awesome - so far Angi is probably my favourite, she does the evening Zumba classes and her body alone is inspiration for me to get fit haha. She is amazing and she's so hot! Marisha is so much fun, I've attended her Cardio reggaeton classes and she is a little firecracker of energy!! I tried a Cardio Kick/Toning class yesterday with Sabrina and I got a pretty good work out too. The zumba and cardio reggae classes are done in the dark with the black lights so it's such a fun atmosphere. The cardio kick/toning class was done with lights on so a little more intimidating if you're self conscious. Music is awesome - they have a great sound system and the best part about the studio is the stage that the instructor teaches on. At urban fitness you're all on one level so if it's a crowded class it's really difficult to see the instructor. I really enjoy Zumba - it's way more fun than going to the gym and standing there lifting weights. I've tried zumba at another place and I definitely prefer LFZ. Once I'm done my groupon I will probably buy a 3 month commitment membership so I have access to all of the classes.

The pictures don't lie - there are big red velvet drapes, chandeliers and exotic Moorish/Morroccan touches like columns and murals. Just a damn cool theatre to see a show in, and I've now been to a few, from burlesque shows to my comedy idols like Bruce McCulloch. Upstairs in the smaller, and less lavishly appointed room, is Lafflines, which is a great spot to see up and coming comedians while having a few glasses of sorrow-drowning liquids and a basket of chicken strips. Both upstairs and downstairs have the same basic menu, so if you can deal with Sleemans and nachos, you're laughing. The wine list is OK, and for girl-drink drunks, they've got some sweet throwback martinis. The servers are really nice, but there never seem to be enough of them, so be decisive when they come around, because they might not get back around to you for a while! I've noticed that for some of the shows in the theatre, they'll have maybe two or three working the entire venue. Upstairs, one or two depending on the night (I tend to go on Thursdays for amateur night, so it's not usually very full). For all the fanciness of the decor, it's not at all posh, just a laid-back place to go see a live show. If you don't like fun, well, stay home.

It was originally built as a part of Burnaby South Secondary School in 1993, and it was given the name Michael J. Fox theatre in 1995. I love the overall design. It feel and looks like a classic, yet modern theatre. There are 613 theatre seats and you can sit anywhere and you'll get very good view of the stage. The seats are very supportive and comfortable. Firm with good lumbar support. Unlike seats at many theatres that are very soft, seats at this theatre won't put you to sleep. After attending over a dozen assemblies and performances and I didn't experience body pain or discomfort. The stage is large enough to hold some large performances with many performers. The Nutcracker by Goh Ballet was excellent and the performers had a lot of room to do their moves. On rare occasions, Michael J. Fox theatre is used for viewing films. The drop down screen is good, but not great. This isn't a movie theatre for sure. What surprised me the most? Quality. I was at this theatre during opening day in 1993 for school. To this day, the seats look and feel almost like new and they don't squeak. Apparently, this theatre was designed to survive a 8.0 richter earthquake too. Honestly, this is the best theatre in Burnaby for the performing arts.
