I found the problem with my "payment showing a problem". We were having an issue with a particular card so I called the club and a female staff member updated my card over the phone and took the payment. All good now, so I thought! I was never told that I needed to update ABC (the billing company) with the new card number, I assumed that calling the club itself Anytime Fitness Lake Wheeler that my card payment would be updated with ABC (billing company) however ABC kept trying to use my old card that was canceled on my biweekly payments. "Causing a payment problem " and late fees I'll never see again I just updated with ABC the correct card myself. Staff should be trained to inform members to also contact ABC when changing a card for payment ( even if it's in the contract ) I have been charged late fees because the payment would not process on the old card but I had updated a new card with the staff member over the phone and I was told my card was declined. Then to tell me I must have made a payment to my credit card (that was cancelled) for the payment to go through the next day which was causing late fees is disrespectful. There were two cards on file because the staff member didn't remove the cancelled card! ABC billing using the old canceled card and then the gym using the updated new card. My final payment is coming in 2 weeks. Way to expensive. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. Some people can't afford late fees every 2 weeks until it's figured out. read more

DON'T signing up with this gym. I didn't even realize how shady their contract is until I read the fine print. First off, there's some sneaky stuff in there like a waiver that says you can't take them to court if something goes wrong. Like seriously? They also block you from joining a class-action lawsuit, so if they screw over a bunch of people, you're on your own. It basically feels like they're setting themselves up to do whatever they want--overcharge you, keep charging you even after you cancel, whatever--and you can't even fight back. The whole thing feels like they're ready to commit a crime and have all these rules in place to make sure you can't stop them. Super unfair and just sketchy all around. If you're thinking about joining, really read that contract and think twice. Honestly feels like they're setting you up to get screwed. read more

Given the pandemic and lack of physical exercise, I really wanted to get back on track with a gym membership in 2021. In my new neighborhood (SW Raleigh) there aren't a ton of gym options so I was really glad when Workout Anytime Lake Wheeler opened up in July. The space is brand new with plenty of cardio, Matrix machines, cable pulls, free weights and squat benches. While it's not a huge space, they've done a good job of packing equipment in without making it crowded. The HVAC is excellent and you've got 24 hour access with a key card reader up front. While they don't have an official gym exercise area, they are working on group fitness classes around the machines and perhaps outdoors. Prices are good for what you get, $20 or $30 memberships with access to other Workout Anytimes in the country (large chain). The crowd is decent, a mix of newbies and more serious folks but all looking to really work out. And the owners Kori and Kris walk the walk being fitness buffs themselves. Overall I can give a big thumbs-up to the place, check it out if you live in S. Raleigh and need a gym that focuses on the basics. read more

When I signed up I was advised that I could cancel my membership if I moved away from the location. I delivered my cancellation in writing and confirmed with two separate managers that it was closed out. They are still charging me and won't return my calls or emails. Please avoid this gym. Management seems nice on the surface and will invite you to sign up with exclusive deals (no fees, no down payment, lower recurring payments, etc.) but BEWARE of when you finally decide to cancel your membership. STAY AWAY RIPOFF REPORT Starting at May 6th I have made 4 in person attempts to cancel my membership with this this shady business that has ripped off countless others simply look at any reviews for them and their other location in Wake Forest. In person I sat down with the General Manager May 6th at 12:45pm to cancel the membership since it was in good standing and had been fulfilled and was now a month to month plan. I was told it was taken care of and I would receive email confirmation in a a few business days. Three weeks later I still have received no notification and returned in person to speak to the GM or Owner and was told they were the only ones who could help me. After being billed again I delivered in person a notice of cancelation signed, dated and clear of my desire to cancel my membership effective immediately. On June 26th I was billed again and spent nearly a hour on the phone with corporate offices and the billing company ABC which informed me that there was no note on the account it had been canceled and billing would continue. I forwarded a scanned copy of the formal cancelation i had delivered in person and they told me they would escalate it to the local club for cancelation. I was charged again for July and again contacted corporate and the billing company ABC both which told me it had to be handled by the local club that they could not cancel it. I have spent 4 months, countless hours of my time, multiple in person visits to cancel the membership and they continue to bill me. I have already contacted my bank and had to pay to put ACH block for this ongoing fraudulent activity on my account. Then today they some how charged my credit card which I never provided to them and I would like to know exactly how they have access to that. I seek a resolution in the form of 4 months billing, my banking ACH block fee and restitution for loss wages in handling this matter. read more

Look at the MULTIPLE 1 star reviews saying the same exact thing about not being able to cancel, being money greedy, being over charged, dishonesty, etc. In JUNE, I was told by two employees that my membership would be canceled but that I still had until July to use the gym, if needed, since the upcoming month was already paid for. I was told that starting in JULY the payment withdraws would STOP because I had canceled my membership as we were moving to another state. A couple of months later we realized we were still getting charged. I called the gym many times and asked to speak to a manager who was never available. A staff member finally took all of my info and said a manager would contact me, which again didn't happen for months. I sent two contact messages explaining the situation through the website as well and still never heard back. FINALLY, I was able to speak with Tanner recently, who initially told me to show proof of our new address out of state and to send a copy of the bank statements showing that we were charged by the gym after July. We got him PROOF of those withdraws from our account and sent copies of the bank statement to him. He claimed on his end; THEIR system never showed that we were charged after July. Even though, we sent the bank account statements SHOWING how we have continuously been charged since being told I had canceled my membership. On TOP of that, after checking all of our bank account withdraws and charges very closely after this gym mess, we saw that we were actually DOUBLE charged the whole entire time I was attending this gym. AGAIN, we sent these bank statements to Tanner and he said his hands are tied because their system Doesn't show the charges. This is absurd that this gym and management can continue to get away with this. Stealing people's money and blatantly lying. This is not okay. Please do not give them any business. NEGATIVE stars. The gym itself isn't too bad, its very small for sure, but it's nice enough. The problem is trying to cancel. Worse than Planet Fitness or wherever else, they won't just make you work to cancel, they'll tell you you have to pay for the rest of the year. I stopped in to take a look. It was clean looking. It looks nice and the person selling memberships at the front door was nice also but I wish he was wearing a mask. There is a mask mandate in effect due to the dramatic increase in cases in Wake County over the past month due to the Delta variant. I would join if they would be following the indoor mask mandates Wake County said people should be following. I am just tired of the excuses certain places use for not enforcing them. I signed up at the Workout Anytime Lake Wheeler in NC when I lived in the area. I ended up moving last year so I contacted them about not renewing my 1 year contract when it was up. They told me I would need to send a letter to their office in order to cancel, so I did. My membership was still renewed so again, I contacted them and I was told that they did not receive the letter and that I would need to send another one certified. I told them I would but in the mean time I was charged TWICE in one month. When asked about the double charge I didn't get a response. So I put a stop payment on my card and they ended up sending me to a collections law office, Aldous and Associates. I was unable to get anyone on the phone every time I called so I had to go through email and then you're at their mercy whether they respond or not. I am just sick to think that these people are that money hungry and treat their customers this way. DO NOT sign up for this gym unless you want to have your hard earned money stolen. read more

This is a review that I also have on Google. If you actually view the lowest ratings of this gym, they all discuss about the unethical money-grabbing scheme this gym practices to their clients. No clean space, amenities, or gym equipments can make up for this poor gym management. TLDR: Kris Wilkins, THE FRANCHISE OWNER, and Nicolas/Nick Redding are extremely deceitful all around to keep you BOUND to their gym. They will try to gaslight you unless you catch them lying. They have no ethics and are money-grabbers. To be frank, their gym may be accessible and seemingly cheap at first, but if you ever needed to cancel, it is absolutely disgusting how they will handle your situation. Please try to obtain a paper trail via e-mail if you attempt to cancel, so they cannot lie to your face that you didn't cancel/they didn't know about it. **Richard is an exception. He is extremely thoughtful and professional. We hope the best in his future!** I initially sign-up with my boyfriend only because they advertised it as A month-to-month membership. I recently attempted to cancelled my membership and had such a difficult time. My boyfriend initially attempted to cancel my membership while I was at work and was told that we would have to cancel in-person. When we did that, a worker supposedly processed my cancellation request and stated that I will receive a call from the owner Kris to finalize it. As I was working the rest of that day, I requested that Kris contact me through e-mail and I can later confirm it then. I received no e-mail and was charged $15 that day I cancelled that month's membership. A few days later, I was charged $39. The management is awful, especially Nicolas/Nick and Kris. They were so unprofessional and were unclear with the fees associated with cancellation and, in general, hidden fees that only pop up for their convenience. When I called about the two separate fee transactions, Nick picked up the phone and continuously talked over me, attempting to back-up the extra charges. Additionally, when my boyfriend came in to downgrade his membership, Kris told him it would cost $59.99 to downgrade a plan, when he was told it would cost him no fee to downgrade to a standard from a prime membership? Imagine. If he knew that, he would have never signed up for a prime membership. That is insanity that Kris tried to milk him for more money. Given this insane hidden fee, my boyfriend proceeded to also cancel his plan and Kris tells him that there is a $99 cancellation fee and accusing that we sign-up for a YEAR CONTRACT. If we "accidentally" signed up for a year contract, how are we unfamiliar with when our contract even ended? Does that make any sense? Especially when I have cancelled my plan first and did NOT get charged this fee of $99. Nick actually attempted to sell that my cancellation fee was "waived" when we shouldn't even have a cancellation fee for a month-to-month plan. If we knew the cancellation fee was $99, there was no chance we would've signed up that day. We were looking for a non-binding gym membership because we were planning to move in a few months. It is shameful that Kris persistently tried to gaslight my boyfriend and also tried to lie to his face, pretending he did not initially know about our situation. He brought up my "waived cancellation fee" during a conversation after stating he was unaware of our history. Overall, please try another gym and do not consider this one. They are so undeserving with how they treated us and I can only imagine countless others. I've had nothing but a bad experience with this gym. Since I've joined they've done nothing but try to sell a personal training subscription for $600 monthly!!! They signed me up for it without me wanting to after my "free success session". I paid extra down just to be able to cancel at anytime, and they are doing everything in their power to keep me from cancelling. My bank account now keeps getting charged $600 every few days after my bank rejects each attempted payment. Every time I try to resolve the issue, they either don't call back, are on "lunch" (at 5pm), or anything but there. After a lot of back and forth eventually I was "assured" that the charges to my bank account would stop, I would only owe my membership fees and a small annual fee, and I could keep my membership. However those charges have never stopped, and I haven't been back since. I have every conversation I've had with any employee recorded after the initial success session and I plan on taking legal action eventually if things don't work themselves out. If you ever apply to this gym, just go and leave, do NOT trust any of the "success sessions" or any of the people that work there. Just look at the many recent reviews below which have the same complaint: when you try to cancel they will continue to charge your card. I had to change my credit card just so these scammers would stop taking my money. I've been going to different gyms for over 10 years and have never experienced a gym that makes it this impossible to cancel your membership, especially since I never even signed a contract. Their manager, Tanner, and owner, Kris, finally spoke to me in person after I had cancelled my membership months prior and made it so difficult to set up a meeting with them that I had no choice but to come in on my birthday. They were then extremely rude, and said they were doing me a favor by not charging me for the cancellation fee I had already paid for months prior. They never refunded the months of charges they took from my credit card even though they promised they would refund at least one month. I waited to see if they would provide any sort of refund as promised to write this review but that never happened, and as a struggling student who had to rearrange her work schedule and drive an hour out of my way on my birthday just to be lied to and belittled by these scammers, I left in tears. They are extremely unprofessional and are clearly running a scam. They even admitted that they probably lost my cancellation paper work due to their poor organizational system, I suggest they invest in a filing cabinet.
