I've been coming to WCA for about 3 years now. I started as a consummate skeptic, but I had tried what I thought was everything to help me with chronic migraines. This was an act of desperation and I didn't have any notions that I would find relief here either. What I learned is that acupuncture works for me. It completely removed the pain and the light sensitivity (for that episode). I was still fatigued and 'muzzy' brained, but I was able to go home and sleep without pain (western medication cannot make that claim in my situation).
The first time I went, I felt like there was no way I could nap in a room with strangers, but again I was completely wrong. I woke up a little disoriented because I had slept so hard. The people who were getting treatment when I first sat were replaced by new people and I didn't hear a thing.
WCA has helped me with all sorts of maladies: back, neck, shoulder, joint, and head pain, boosting my immune system, helping with mood, and stress (not all at once, mind you!).
For me, the needles sometimes hurt, not enough to stop the treatment, but sometimes enough to have me take in a quick breath. The more pain I have before needling seems to result in the needles hurting more. Invariably, when I ask which area a particularly noticeable stick is for, it's always for the area that I've come in seeking relief for. It's weird.
If you go, wear comfortable clothes (you only need to reveal knees and below and elbows and below) that you keep on. They will offer a blanket, a wake up at a specified time (if you need it), and will check on you regularly. The room is immaculate, calming, quiet, phone-free, dim, and filled with white noise and calming music.
They charge based on need, but you don't need to prove your income level. I go twice a week when I have something acute, less when I don't have any issues. Sometimes I go in for weeks and then I don't go for months.
Once your treatment is finished, you're welcome to sit in the cozy little space for tea or water.
I recommend WCA Rockwood without reservation. If you can get in to see Moses, do, in my opinion he's the best. That being said, I've had top-notch treatment from other acupuncturists and students and never hesitate to book with them if Moses isn't available. read more
