After years of litigation, multiple judge changes, and repeated exposure to ongoing abuse dynamics, I have experienced a level of instability and lack of accountability that no parent should ever have to endure. Instead of creating safety and structure, this court process has often felt enabling and retraumatizing. I came to the court seeking protection and support, but the lack of enforcement and meaningful intervention has allowed harmful dynamics to continue. It has been emotionally exhausting, financially draining, and deeply discouraging. Families deserve a court system that is competent, consistent, and focused on protecting families--not prolonging harm.

I'm unsure if my group just lucked out with the judge assigned to us but it seemed as though she was also acting as our defense attorney, asking the officer questions to validate the infractions. This particular officer was just as rude and nasty to the judge as he was when he gave me my ticket and by the sound of it, he was ornery with every motorist he ticketed that sat in the courtroom today. I felt like I was heard when I gave my account of the events pertaining to my case and it was ultimately dismissed. Whole I would not want to have to come here again, I definitely can say that I wouldn't mind terribly if I had to, although, I may be bias because I won my case today in epic fashion. Yes. Had to sue a slumlord in Harlem and ended up here. I'll start with the positives: everyone from the…read morebailiff, to the security staff to the legal personnel is friendly and super helpful. They make sure your questions are answered and that they service you as quickly as possible. The mediators are really good at their job as well - they are very resolution-centered. Since this is a busy courthouse, they have 3 options for your court hearing: judge, mediator and arbitrator. This is where I get to why I'm giving this place such a low rating... If they feel your case isn't "worthy" enough to go before a judge, they will talk you into the option of a mediator or arbitrator. Knowing that these 2 options typically rule in a way that makes everyone happy, I was not interested in going this route. But, after being talked into it, I decided to play along. I end up in arbitration with a volunteer attorney who was more concerned with ruling in everyone's favor instead of judging on merit, facts and using intuition. As a result, an "even" judgement was entered where I won a little and the defendant won a little. Had my case gone before a judge, that wouldn't have happened - the judge wouldn't definitely ruled 100% in my favor. FYI - you cannot appeal the decision of an arbitrator. Stick to your guns and go before the judge only...esp if your defendant is a savvy liar who can easily deceive a volunteer attorney or mediator. Judges have strong lie detectors that these type of folks won't be able to con.

Called again, explained the situation and she said well its the right number and transfers again, same message. I call back again, now they don't answer. Great service NY, I expected nothing less. Oh the document submitted to me, not acceptable, its most likely as good as the service I received. What is going on in this building?

We went here to get our marriage license versus going to the Manhattan location due to it's…read moreproximity to Westchester. We got there at 8am on a weekday morning and waited outside in the literally freezing temperature until the building opened it's doors to the public at 8:30am. Like many government buildings, you will get lost trying to find the room that you need. Also be prepared to go through the metal detector and have things confiscated that might be considered a weapon. The wait was short for the marriage bureau since we got there early but just 10 minutes later there was already a line. Service was curt but fine. We're just glad we didn't have to do our ceremony here, it had too much of a DMV feel. Actually a little less romantic than the DMV since they don't make you go through metal detectors when you get your driver's license.

Grand Jury Duty is different from Trail Jury Duty and it seems to be virtually no way to escape it if you're called, unless you have a felony conviction on your record. No judgement here just giving you a heads up. So be prepared to forfeit 4 weeks of your regular routine for a new one 4 days a week. If I'm honest I was kick'n & screaming like many of us do, when we are called to serve but it wasn't exactly that bad. I mean it can be boring as heck with all the down time. It is like watching paint dry or plucking every hair on your body one by one. Alright, that may be a little extreme but be prepared nonetheless. I used the opportunity to catch up on some much needed reading to help stimulate some brain cells. For the 4 wks you are required to report @ 9am and stay to the close of business which doesn't necessarily mean 5pm. It is until you are dismissed which means it could be before 5 or some times after. You are required to go thru security every time you enter the building and as a Juror you are allowed to enter with food and beverages. If you are serving as a Grand Juror you have access to a refrigerator and microwave. Security moves pretty quickly with the exception of Mondays & Wednesdays when the line can be out the door so arrive early. Everyone including the Court Officers are generally polite and actually nice. When it finally comes to an end you realize it is not actually that bad and you provided some input in our Judicial system. Just A Note: They provide $7 parking vouchers to park at the shopping center across the street which reduces the cost from $25 to $18. My suggestion is 4 days a week for 4 weeks, $18 adds up so only drive if necessary.

Went to jury duty about a month ago. It was not that bad, haha. They did not call me at all…read more I thought I was headed for days and days here. It was just the two days and then you are sent back. I had a nice time eating at some of the local spots in my 2 days here. I had not had some Dominican food in such a long time. It hit the spot and for only $5.00 it kept me smiling. In the city , this same meal would've cost me like $8.50. Overall, this is a nice new building. AC was working very well and kept everyone cool. It did feel like slow death only you finish the newspaper and other random things. You are just standing here staring at the these strangers faces.
