Wordsmith Writing Coaches helps aspiring and independent authors write well and publish wisely. We also serve older high school, college, graduate, and doctoral students with academic writing, especially when English is a second language. We can help you tackle that tough writing assignment, improve your writing skills, and hone your logic and case-building abilities, making your writing cogent and compelling. History
Established in 2004.
Wordsmith Writing Coaches grew out of helping a friend who had done very well in undergraduate and graduate programs in her field. All seemed well until she discovered she would be dropped from the doctoral program if her writing skills did not improve greatly.
Why? Because the higher one goes in academia, the more important writing becomes. The quality of the school is judged by the quality of the articles its graduates will be publishing in their field.
Many grad students excel in their coursework only to have real trouble with major writing tasks. Wordsmith coaches keep you on track, and train you to excel in the central task of academia: writing.
We also help authors and writers to tell their stories well and publish wisely, through private coaching and editing and our free writers' critique & support group, SLAKE. Our new writers' group, PRESS, trains you for productivity through writing sprints and feedback. All genres, business writing, even love letters, are welcome.
Meet the Business Owner: Nicolas N.
Nic Nelson is a literary and academic editor and writing coach who lives in South Los Angeles with a daughter, two sons, a lovely wife, and a reincarnation of the Victrola dog. Nic enjoys the English language in all its idiosyncratic glory, and loves helping others learn to wield it well.
(Nic has also served as a copy editor and editor-in-chief of a literary journal; a proofreader and in-house editor for a large non-profit; a monthly columnist for 13 years; and of course this writing-coach gig for the past 16 years... just in case you looked here to find professional credentials, not a description of his dog.)
