For the most part everything is priced significantly lower than your standard supermarket, or about the same as if all the goods were on special all the time. For example, a solitary can of Red Bull will only set you back $1.50 and a big bag of chips comes in around the $2 mark. However, I'd recommend a close inspection of expiry and use by dates, as it has a whiff of NQR about it, given the whole "clearance" element. The stock extends beyond food goods, with most of the stuff you'd find at your local supermarket and/or discount centre covered in the various sections. Among the more exciting discoveries was a huge range of piñatas for $18 a pop at the back of the store, including one that's a mermaid. Pretty cool, hey?

Their new location in South Preston is handy for Thornbury locals, sounds confusing but Google Map it. Known for their cheap "non-perishable" goods, you can pick up pasta and tinned tomatoes for 69 cents each, seasonal produce at lower than supermarket prices, boxed wine for $8.99 and home wares. They are currently selling 'fog machines' for $30 just to give you an idea of their random range. One reservation is their bulk meat packaging. Buying two kilos of mince is handy for the weekly family size shop but not always for myself. Its a cheap supermarket, stop whining. Did I mention $8.99 boxed wine?

La Manna had lots of good deals going, and I managed to find tarragon there, which I hadn't found in other stores in the neighbourhood. I don't know if I just never get the nice, smiley staff member at the cash register, or if none of them smile or make an attempt to be friendly, but that's just how it goes in La Manna. It would be nice if they were nicer to me, but if it were that easy for everyone to be nicer to each other, there would probably be less fighting in the world. La Manna is just a short walk away and is an absolutely gem of a local grocer. Piles of fresh fruits, veggies, flowers and all that other healthy stuff that you look at in the supermarket but always walk right past. You know the ones - quinoa, freekah, sunflower seeds and anything green... We stocked our basket sky high with enough veggies to feed a small family and smugly strutted out on to Sydney Road - proud smile on our face for all that we had achieved before 10am on a Sunday - and all for just a few clams! A highly recommended destination when you want the best and freshest veggies without the hefty price that can often come along with them.

This large greengrocer owned by the Sculli Brothers is located on the ground level of Greensborough Plaza. It is spacious, well lit and organized. The staff know their produce and are happy to help with your selection. As well as fresh fruit and vegetables they also have yoghurts and juices which seems to be a trend in greengrocer stock now. The produce is high quality and a good range. The store easy to navigate with your trolley, the prices reasonable and specials well signed posted on the windows. It's all peachy!

It is a supermarket / movie store that also serves brilliant quality food really cheap. My girlfriend has never been a big curry fan and thankfully she is now converted. There are a few spots to sit but this place is always busy so sometimes it's takeaway only. Two people will be stuffed with spicy delight for around $20. There is food here I have never seen and I assume a lot is Indian style street food. The guys that serve are friendly and helpful and love it when you order spicy. If you go here and they have the chilli beef make sure you order it, I've only seen it twice as the curries change every day. Last time they had sold out but gave us their personal stash. I think as we had been craving that beefy goodness for weeks and kept stopping in and asking them " any chilli beef today" they felt sorry for us.
