What I like about Maxi is the odd items you wont find at Coles. The cereal section for instance is a do-it-yourself affair, where you pick and choose form open canisters and fill up your bag of muesli or cereal by weight. The shelves too are quite industrial, and it gives the place a warehouse feel that most city stores would consider boutique.

The range of fruit and vegetables is good, however this is one area that from my experience doesn't compete well on price. Finally they appear to employ a range of staff, from young to mature age, they are friendly and you see the same faces over the years. I guess I can take comfort in knowing that my spend is supporting an Australian medium size business.

I've spent far too long searching through discoloured capsicums and limp zucchinis in order to find something even remotely edible. Yuck. This Woolworths is saved from receiving a lowly two stars due to the excessive amounts of other stock on offer and the fantastically late opening hours. Just stay away from the fruit and vegies.

There's self serve checkout which means you'll be in and out as soon as you can find your items and pay for them. Probably one of the cooler facts about this Woolies is that there is a DVD rental vending machine as you exit so for a few bucks you can rent a flick from the giant green vending machine!

I love this particular Coles because there is heaps of parking available, it's adjacent to the market, there are always good deals going on and there is a great selection of multicultural food that I can buy at any time, because it's always open! Easy to navigate layout, friendly staff at the tills and heaps of product available. This is my go-to Coles when I see a good deal on and I want to stock up or am looking for those ingredients that aren't so common and generally aren't found in other supermarkets.

The Woolworths in Australia is a full service grocery store where I usually find the Aussie style licorice that is more chewy than licorice you would purchase in the US. Prices are very good, the bakery is the first stop where I look at fresh baked goods and determine if I will be able to consume what I purchase before leaving the country. Your own carry-out bags are needed to transport your items if you are unable to pick them up by yourself. The store hours are usually 7 am to 11 pm daily.

Go up the escalators on the Collins St side and look for a green light logo looking sign and you will find this place. A cafe, BWS store, fresh sushi bar with the option to have it made to your liking by the person manning it, during standard work hours, hot soup n rolls, pies, chicken nibbles, hot pizza, bakery, plus the basics down the aisles.
