I've only been in here twice now, both times to get the same thing. Couldn't find it at the normal supermarkets or anywhere else I normally go so I tried here and bingo, they new exactly what I wanted and where it was in the shop, and at a decent price as well. What was it I was after your probably asking yourself about now, well I'll tell you, even though there may be a real danger of causing a stampede to all the Asian supermarkets. But first there is the obligatory story to read, enjoy..... My sister introduced me to these on a recent day trip to Mount Martha, we stopped at the service station and shops on citylink for some brunch and at one of these shops they had beans or edamame as a substitute to chips. Well I decided to give them a go on her recommendation and we bought a tub of beans and a tub of edamame, we then sprinkled some Himalyan salt on them and devoured the lot. I preferred the edamame over the beans, they were also fun to squeeze out of their pods so I have been looking for them in shops ever since. So here I am ready to explore another bunch of new experiences in food from my local Asian supermarket, I can't wait. What are edamame you ask, they are soybean pods, who'd have thought it. Boil them up, add a little salt and get squeezing,Yum.

Great for if you are having a party and need to stock up on finger food and dips etc, as the stuff is ready to eat and you'll save a bunch of great food that people are most likely going to devour whilst drunk. Basically, if you don't know how it works, NQR get regular brands of food, drinks, groceries and alcohol and sell them really cheap. These are brands you'll know of that might only have a month left on the expiry, or wound up here because they weren't selling well. However they get here is none of my business, all I'm concerned about is the fun of finding bizarre food items and buying them.

Those days are…read moregone and Woolworths was more of a 5 and dime type of variety store back in the 1960's and 1970's. The Woolworths in Australia is a full service grocery store where I usually find the Aussie style licorice that is more chewy than licorice you would purchase in the US. Prices are very good, the bakery is the first stop where I look at fresh baked goods and determine if I will be able to consume what I purchase before leaving the country. However, I'm sure I wouldn't be complaining if the Lygon Court Woolworths was awesome. If only. The real problem here is the sub par quality of the fruit and vegies. The produce is sad, overpriced and very uninspiring. In fact, it's best to go out of your way to avoid buying them here. I've spent far too long searching through discoloured capsicums and limp zucchinis in order to find something even remotely edible. Yuck. This Woolworths is saved from receiving a lowly two stars due to the excessive amounts of other stock on offer and the fantastically late opening hours. Just stay away from the fruit and vegies.

Probably one of the cooler facts about this Woolies is that there is a DVD rental vending machine as you exit so for a few bucks you can rent a flick from the giant green vending machine!

TIP: ~ Like most (if not all) Woolworths, a lot of meat would be in the "special" section, of specially marked down for meat that needs to be used soon. You can grab some very good deals here. Just the other day I got 4 huge steaks for 10 dollars total. Somebody pinch me! Ambiance: Despite the busy atmosphere of being a grocery store on Victoria Street, the staff here do a top job of keeping this place clean and being efficient enough on the registers to get rid of large queues. The result? I never feel particularly crowded and hectic at this place, despite the barrage of customers. Contrast to say, a busy Coles, this Woolworths is a winner! Customer Service: So far, all the staff have been really nice and efficient as well. As I mentioned above, they do a great job with the queues. Selection: Overall, this Woolworths is pretty large so they have a great selection of items. Like I said, I do mainly all my shopping here and it's never let me down. --- The only thing I do have to say is that even though Woolworths does have an "Asian" section, I recommend you heading over to Minh Phat next door - for Asian goods, they do a lot better job with the prices.
