Like the previous reviewer I am impressed with the extensive range of specialty products, in addition their fresh meat provides extensive choice and cuts as well as bulk product. The fishmonger is the best in Ferntree Gully, excellent range and many prepared from fresh whole fish. The range of fruit and vegetables is good, however this is one area that from my experience doesn't compete well on price. Finally they appear to employ a range of staff, from young to mature age, they are friendly and you see the same faces over the years. I guess I can take comfort in knowing that my spend is supporting an Australian medium size business.

Sadly, I think this Safeway comes off second best, as it just doesn't have that much to offer. Except cheeses! They have a really good section for cheese where I love to rustle through it to find the quick sale deals! The other decent part is its deli where it is probably a little bit better than the Coles across the road however as a whole they don't have as much good meats, bread or fruit and vegetables.

Hallam was sorely in need of a bigger supermarket without residents having to drive fifteen minutes to surrounding suburbs to buy milk and bread (without having to fork over ridiculous money for it). Given how new it is, it's clean, shiny and has plenty of space. They allowed enough room for on-site parking which can be a bit of a pain at peak times but just means you'll have to be a courteous driver. In terms of what's available it's the same as every other Coles. It's just exciting that the area finally has a local and it's actually a decent store.
