This used to have a nice mix of ethnic and engish stores and you had a realy good choice of things to buy, but, now it focuses more on ethnic goods and thus there isnt really much for me to buy there anymore as i dont go in for all the spices and curry food that it sells. The village has many market type stalls set out in the grounds and there is also a few stalls inside too - there is a second hand flea market type of stall inside with all sorts of second hand furniture and books, ornaments, bric a brac, etc. There is also a small pet shop inside which doesnt do many live animals but does cater for pet care and treatment with a good stock. There are loads of ethnic clothing stalls and ethnic food stalls so if that is your taste there are some good bargains to be had as this is a really cheap market. There is also a butcher who sells out of refrigerated wagon who haggles people with his prices which gives it an auction type of feel. I love listening to him say 'ill give you 2 pieces for a fiver or even 3 pieces for a fiver - any takers' and everyone waves their fivers about thinking they are getting a bargain - i wouldnt dare buy meat like that. Ok for bargains but hard to walk round as gets very muddy and the ground isnt even and is very hilly in places so it isnt appropriate for wheelchair users and prams.

They had a massive collection of stalls focusing on everything from textiles to cookware and the prices are all negotiable.. It was like being in morocco again !! ... It's worth mentioning the fellas outside market 2 who run a bedding and pots and pan store where I seemed to spend at least 30 mins... The prices where very good and the customer service brilliant... Any size and colour fitted bed sheets 2 for £5.. Bargain . To mention further the street food on offer was equally as good.. Will definitely be back

Kingsgate Shopping Centre is a small shopping centre serving the town centre of Huddersfield in…read moreWest Yorkshire. As a mall it is fairly poor, it only consists of a small number of retailers and isn't too impressive overall, it does feel a little bit run down inside, with a lack of mall staff and a high number of kiosks selling any random tat on the mall floor. JD Sports, Sports Direct, Clarks and The Fragrance Shop all have stores in the mall, including the four main mobile phone service providers and Stormfront (Apple Reseller). For food and drink, you have brands such as The Bagel Factory and Costa. The anchor tenant, House of Fraser, is the largest store in the mall but closure has been talked about for a while now, so I can't see it lasting beyond early 2022. The toilets are well hidden as they are poorly signposted and located inside the car park. Car parking is a little expensive for a small town and works out around £1 an hour with no flat rate other than on Sunday's, where they charge £1.50. 2* - A bog-standard shopping centre, not terrible but I won't be rushing back here.

Asda has a great selection of women's and children's clothes, all very reasonably priced. Being disabled, these superstores offer an accessible, easy shopping experience, both having loads of disabled parking spaces, and scooters to borrow. The staff in Asda are particularly helpful, nothing's too much trouble. I love being able to withdraw cash, get my prescription, see the optician, pick up my euros and do my food shopping under one roof. A restaurant offers fresh cooked food every day, and there's always MacDonald's for the grandchildren. (And grandma!). Household goods are trendy and colourful, with lots of choice. M & S is a bit more expensive, but it's nice for gift buying or for something special. Their food is to die for, again, a bit pricey but such a treat. Some people want more choice of shops in a retail centre, but for me, Owlcotes is perfect. It's a relaxing, enjoyable experience, and I always find what I need. My only complaint? There's too much choice!! In both stores, I could spend hours, and do, browsing the aisles, with no over enthusiastic store assistants hassling me to buy things I don't want! Asda wins by a margin because I can shop there 24 hours most days. Evening shopping is quieter, and brings out the very best of people!!

If you are intending to do mega shopping it's probably better to get the bus into Leeds or round the ring road to the White Rose Centre. I tend to at least partially judge any 'centre' by the eats (I know, I'm very sad and slightly over weight) and The Owlcotes fairs very badly offering a small McDonald's which doesn't offer the full menu and ASDA cafe which I have to say doesn't seem to offer much edible at all. I can't finish without conferring the prize for toilets I'd least like to need on the one here adjacent to the McDonald's concession. Gross, filthy and obviously forgotten on the cleaning rota.
