The West One is a nice retail park in the Salford/Eccles area, I'm going to share the embarrassing…read moremoment that I actually came here by mistake, through making a left turn which I should have made 150 yards or so later according to my sat nav, I was quite impressed at the retail park as it was quite nice, even having a WHsmith to its-name, which seem to be in every shopping mall, every station, every airport, every town centre but still they seem to shy away from retail parks from some bizarre reasoning. It is located just off Junction 2 of the M602 motorway and is quite close to Trafford Park and Old Trafford and even the Lowry Outlet mall, all around one or two miles away. There are a few big names here such as Home Bargains, WHSMITH, Subway and The Carphone Warehouse, still the retail park is only small compared to others, it still is quite decent, quite satisfactory however nothing more than that, I'm sorry to report. It is also a shame this retail park doesn't seem to be making a name for its-self to make it more of a place to visit, through not having a website, there are numerous fast food chains here, as I recall there is both a Subway and a Mcdonald's, two of the largest fast food chains in the world which seem to always not be far from each other, where you can often find them in the same complex. There is also quite a large "Range" store here but that's about it really. The location of this retail park is interesting, with so much around it so it probably isn't the best place to go and shop but still it is quite nice and I do feel it has done enough to earn at least a high two star rating.

Aww, poor Stretford Mall. It's not a place for high street fashion but if you're in need of some…read moreessentials or some tat, you've come to the right place! And you'll be surprised by how little money you spend (partly cos it's mostly bargain shops and partly due to lack of good shops). It has charity shops - the best one here being British Heart Foundation who are happy to take donated stuff and has a high turnover of preloved clothing. My favourite shop here though, is Quality Save. It's a nice spacious one with cheerful staff and constantly updated stock, perfect fit browsing before hitting the new Pure Gym that opened in spring this year. There are the essentials - a Superdrug, Boots, WHSmiths (which house the Post Office), Specsavers, Tescos, Holland and Barrett, Iceland, and Greggs - yes, the newly redecorated cafe-style Greggs! If you live in the area and don't know how to drive, I'd recommend a visit the mall. It's slowly changing - new cheap chains are opening there - a Pep and Co this year, Aldi next Spring, and a slowly updating market hall with lots of room and potential to house some pop ups. It gets three stars for now, four when Aldi opens and five when they push the closing time to 7pm or even 6:30pm. I have hope.

This precinct used to be a bustling shopping mecca for the people of South Manchester. The market was packed full of bargain stalls and every teenage girl would flock there for their next outfit. There was a busy McDonalds, a great cut price sports shop and the Post Office which is now a dying breed, was an important factor for Stretford folk. No Arndale centre is complete without the obligatory Ethel Austin and Au Naturel and although Stretford Mall had its fair share of young mums pushing prams of toddlers eating meat and potato pasties, the general vibe was one of office workers on their lunch breaks, pensioners on their days out and regular people rushing around Tesco to do their weekly shop. Move forward five years and the Credit Crunch has decimated this place. McDonalds jumped ship, Woolworths met its untimely end- R.I.P Pick n' Mix- and the Post Office was obliterated, ending up in the less salubrious W.H.Smiths where queues are endless. Dorothy Perkins has run away with Au Naturel, Sommerfield became Quality Save and the market is a ghost town. Quite sad really and for those without a car, it is a real loss. It is now an underprivileged abandoned town of closed units and empty parking spaces and it is only a matter of time before I can see the whole place shutting and being turned into the biggest Primark in the world. Stretford Mall can change its name but it cannot change its fate and I would not go there unless I absolutely had to.

It was like a ghost town. It was also very cold (no heating) probably couldn't afford to put any on ! We won't be visiting again as they are still charging for parking which seems stupid when it's in such a decline. Something needs to be done quickley or I can see it closing down.

Its also very easy to get to from the City Centre with a direct tram heading straight towards to Media City UK.

It was opened in 1972 and really has passed its' prime, it is an old building situated in a run up of shops of less branded shops and more lower class shops which don't look or sound too good. They is a small amount of shops, but all of these you'd expect to see in a small town anyway such as Cash Generator, Greggs, Argos, Heron Foods, a few pound shops, a phone shop (EE annd Vodafone) and Wilko, so certainly it seemed to be nothing special, which meant it would be easy to walk in and out in under a minute, especially with what I presume to be a few entrances to other shops. This shopping centre just seemed a sad place, a depressing place and it didn't even seem like a shopping centre, just a few shops piled together with an ALDI, KFC and Tesco outside.

It's fairly easy to follow and find the stores you need here, but for a smaller retail park, this has to be expected. There isn't anything in terms of food options outside the supermarket, but KFC and McDonald's are across the way. It is easy to access as a pedestrian, and for cars, there is a large car park centred around Sainsbury's. 3*

Although I still avoid one of the stores like the plague, choosing to travel 4 miles to my nearest equivalent, I do use nearly all the other stores several times a week. With Sainsbury's, Boots, Argos, Home Bargains, Sports Direct you pretty much have everything you will ever need in these stores, not to mention the others. So its a good location and a decent selection of stores. My only downside is the layout, featuring two four way roundabouts in quick succession, it can become rather chaotic at times, especially with idiots and the speeds they drive. But all in all its a good place.

They happily held the dress, for an hour, while I continued my shopping and even offered to call a cab for me, when I was dubious about braving the deluge outside. The store is fairly large and modern, I much prefer it to the Market Street location, even though the store is slightly smaller, it still has a decent range from which you'd expect from Primark, yet without feeling like a crowded mess. The store is over two floors, with plenty of elevators, and is fairly easy to navigate, they also have a Cafe. If you're heading here from the Metrolink, use the Barton Dock Road stop, which is the closest Metrolink stop, which pulls up right by the entrance. It might not be the most fashionable clothing in the world, but it is fairly affordable, and I do prefer this to many of their other locations. Tidiness could be improved in all areas of the store, but again I find this to be a common issue with Primark in general. 4*

Barton Square is one of the nicer, newer parts of the Trafford Centre, which is more out-doors…read moretype, meaning it can be a nice place to go for a look around, to get some fresh air and away from the busy Trafford Centre, through a simple walkway which takes you there. Barton Square mainly is a bunch of home stores, with M & S, BHS, Next and Home Sense all having stores here, alongside a Seaworld and a Legoland. It is quite a nice place, it can even sometimes be set like a fairground with stalls selling quick food, which can be an interesting place to grab something to eat, although I've never eaten at one of them myself. The shops here are limited, but when you have The Trafford Centre at just the other end of the bridge, you don't need it really. It is a nice new addition to the Trafford Center, but adding a bit more here, maybe even a Starbucks / Costa / Caffe Nero to serve the area, although they have all 3 in the main building would be nice, but still for someone who despises home stores, which this place is all about - this isn't a bad place, and is a nice place to go while shopping at The TC.
