Ah, the Quays. The place where the characters in Coronation Street who have wealthy aspirations dream of living. I've reviewed so many little spots in Salford Quays and said so many different things about them, I thought it'd be challenging for me to review the Quays as a whole. A place to visit. A day out with a friend, loved one or the family. How does it hold up? Well, as ex colleagues of mine have affirmed, it's not somewhere to go for a night out. The bars are few and far between, and with the dreaded Lime as one of the only options, well, we all know how I feel about the central Manchester option. I can't see the Salford Quays version of the very same bar being any different. And for a day of shopping, I've never been blown away by the Lowry Outlet Mall. But for families and culturites it's a lot better. The Lowry Theatre and Imperial War Museum mean there's plenty for the kids to learn and lots of art and history to entertain oneself with. And while Frankie and Benny's, Chiquito and Pizza Express may not be the gourmet's choice, children love that sort of thing. Also it's a great place to find a job. There's lots of industry in Salford Quays, from GMG Radio to an entire estate of computers and businesses and all sorts of important-sounding things. And I'd say it's a very pretty place too. There's stuff for the sporty types from a very posh gym to a watersports school, which resides on the quay edge where people canoe and dive and do all sorts of aqua-based activities. You're likely to run into a gargantuan swan or goose walking around... just be careful, those things can be nasty. All in all, the Quays is worth a visit. It's quite 50/50 in terms of its content, but the stuff I like there is particularly good stuff, thus I'd recommend it. And for a picturesque afternoon in the sun it can't be beaten.

Let's start with the negative points: - No atmosphere, especially on a wintery weekday - Rubbish shops in outlet mall, which is always dead - Lack of good bars and restaurants - Very windy Now the positive ones: - Imperial War Museum - Lowry Museum and Theatre - Lowry Bridge - Free parking (for 4 hours if you make a purchase at the mall) - The arrival of the BBC's Media City (more jobs, more life?) - Watersports events, such as the annual university dragonboat race - Wildlife - when I worked here I saw herons, ducks and a stoat - Accessible by public transport (and more accessible when the Metrolink extends to Media City) OK, so there are more positives than negatives, but unlike the wealthy Corrie characters, I would never dream of living here. It makes a decent day out, but the lack of character and any useful facilities make this a strange choice for somewhere to live.

I went to the Lowry Food Festival on the 25th of June 2016, the weather really let us down as it was raining throughout the day and that's never a good thing when there's an outdoor event on! Needless to say this affected numbers, it was pretty quiet compared to previous years but the usual mix of hot and cold food stalls were present and Gingers ice cream truck was sitting pretty in pink, as always. The entertainment was a little thin on the ground this year, they had a few singing acts on stage towards the end but people were seeking shelter from the rain by this point so there wasn't really a festival 'vibe'. I particularly enjoyed the vege spaghetti/courgetti maker demo. I plan on buying one very soon, pretty miffed I didn't pick one up on the day actually. I went for a grilled chicken wrap from Mezani Grill, I've not had Kenyan food before but as one would expect it was spicy, and I loved it! I did think it was pretty dear at £6.50 but a girl's got to eat. Overall an OK experience but not as good as previous years.

The Lowry shopping outlet mall. Haven't been here for a long while but had to go to the Molton Brown shop. First off you get one hours free parking but if you purchase an item from any shop within the outlet for over £5 you get four hours free parking. There is now a lot of shops in there with M&S home outlet, cadburys shop, Black & Decker and a Molton Brown outlet shop and lots more. Also if you get all your shopping done and have some free time you can go to the food court or some of the restaurants that are in there such as harvesters or cafe rouge. On a nice day you could go for a walk outside which is five minutes and you will be in Media City UK, worth a walk around. Also located next door is the Lowry Theatre, again worth popping in to see what shows are coming. Also all around are many more restaurants and bars in the whole area.

    It's a mall!!!

Great place and selection of retailers to pick up some discount clothing or goods. Easy to move around the centre too as not all that busy.

We're talking lovely jackets, shirts, dresses, jeans, shoes and accessories in contemporary and vintage styles and fabrics. I'm probably shooting myself in the foot by letting you in on the secret but the Sale in this Whistles is always fantastic. Whilst the other branches tend to sell out of Sizes 8-12 super quick, this branch usually has at least a couple. To borrow a line from Garbage: "Go baby, go..."

With true outlet prices and a decent selection of styles and sizes, there's plenty to tempt old and new fans alike. The staff here are extraordinarily good, offering honest opinions; amongst the best boutique staff I have ever encountered. Even at the risk of losing a sale, they opined, honestly, that they thought their smallest size too large for me. Then they proceeded to give practical suggestions as to how it could still be a feasible option, given that the design and colour were fabulous. They happily held the dress, for an hour, while I continued my shopping and even offered to call a cab for me, when I was dubious about braving the deluge outside. If I lived closer, I'm sure I'd visit regularly. A true pleasure to shop here!

I always check for any faults on any clothing I purchase from any clothes outlet so never need to take anything back and therefore do not know their reaction to taking damaged goods back. I could not get back to the Lowry any eariler than today and assumed that because the jumper still had all tags and the reciept there would be no problem. Boy was I wrong. 20 minutes of rude and aggressive behaviour from two staff members, in which they blatantly called me a liar, that I had damaged the goods myself and I would get no refund! The man started ranting that we were scaring the other customers away by saying they sold faulty goods! When all I'd said was the item I'd bought from them was damaged and I was within my rights to ask for a refund. I've been a customer here for over five years and normally the staff are on the rude side, but I never expected to be treated like a bit of dirt by them. After the man became overly aggressive and intimidating to my partner for no reason, we left, but I promised them I'd be contacting trading standards and reviewing them. I'm still in shock from the whole thing and they've lost my custom for good. From other reviews I've read on other sites this seems to be a trend for them, stay away and buy somewhere else.

Wax Lyrical is what some people may call a girlie shop which maybe true as all girls I know like…read morethis place too. Alas, I am not a girl and I things is a good little place as well. Having thought this shop was an independent, after looking at their website I see there are a few of them around. This is a good thing because it has that nice independent feel to it and not in the least like a chain store which often feel so stale. The products they sell is rather self explanatory from the title, It consists of candles of all types, scented burning things whether they are Joss Sticks of these small cylindrical cones which I often buy. Of course everything comes in a variety of flavours and colours to suit your homes ambience and decor. They also sell various ceramic ornaments relating to the shops goods so you won't find any tacky ceramic Shire horses or cats (thank god), just the plates and utensils used in candle or incense burning. They also have a selection of Jelly Belly candles in tins which are great! If you are like me and lurrrrrrrve Jelly belly beans then these are a treat. Of course there are some beans which are just awful and same goes for some candle flavours, but on the flip side there are many to die for as well. All in all I like this shop and buy from here around once a month to top up all the things I have burnt over the previous weeks. So take a trip in, parking is free in the Lowry once any of the many retailers including Wax Lyrical, validate your ticket.
