The Woodvale Crematorium was a regular 'haunt' for me whilst studying for my BA. I lived just around the corner and found this a nice place to come and study without distraction.
Another of the Nineteenth Century cemeteries in the city, this one is currently full! Compared to some of the other sites, this is the goth's best bet. It is a classic cemetery from a hammer horror film and there are numerous impressive crypts and statues dotted throughout. A small chapel is there with an impressive gothic arch tacked on the side.
As Richard mentions, it is also the final resting place of Crowley and worth having a wander around to find his headstone. Whilst you are right in the middle of busy Lewes road, 2 minutes in and you really feel that you have escaped the city and stumbled onto a film set.
Don't get put off by funeral stigma, this is a lovely undervisited site. read more
