During my most recent visit, I checked my receipt immediately after leaving the store and noticed the duplicate charge. I went straight back inside, and the employee eventually refunded the extra charge without a single apology.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the most disappointing part of my experience.
I've been collecting squishy toys for my kids for Christmas, and my daughter had heard that this store had a great selection. She was right. They have plenty of squishies, including a Crazy Fun Squishy Dumpling that I purchased.
I knew counterfeit versions of these toys existed, but I never thought I'd have to worry about that at an established toy store. I wasn't buying from some random seller on Facebook Marketplace.
When I got home, I happened to compare the dumpling with an authentic one I had purchased from Target. I immediately noticed several differences. The one from Dilly Dally's was missing the hologram sticker, barcode, ingredient information, and, most importantly, the embossed RMS marking on the bottom of the steamer container.
I hadn't even opened the product.
I understood the store's "All Sales Are Final" policy, so I went back hoping to exchange it for something else. I politely explained that I was concerned the product might not be authentic.
What shocked me was the response.
I was told that they had never claimed the product was authentic or represented it as a Crazy Fun product, even though the packaging clearly displayed the Crazy Fun name. I was also told that mystery squishy toys were not eligible for returns.
I explained that if I had known the product might not be authentic, I would never have purchased it.
Instead of acknowledging my concern, the person I spoke with was dismissive and defensive. Eventually, they agreed to accept the return as a "one-time exception," making it feel as though they were doing me a favor.
The issue was never simply about getting my money back. It was about trust, transparency, and how customers are treated.
I would have appreciated even a simple apology or an offer to look into my concerns. Instead, I was left feeling that my concerns were being brushed aside.
When a store sells toys intended for children, I expect it to take questions about product authenticity and safety seriously.
My advice: Check your receipts carefully, and be cautious when purchasing branded or collectible toys here.
They may have a great selection, but after two visits involving duplicate charges and this experience with customer service, I no longer feel comfortable shopping here.
