We contracted Paul and Acme Builders for my "Man-Cave" project, to tear down my closet, wire my room for all the fun a man can have: play music (walls are wired with input/output for any electronic instrument) through the PA system, or just headsets (ports on the walls), have a sporting event or even dance parties (disco ball, LCD laser projector, fog machine). These guys were professional, on time and on budget in transforming my room. How do you screen people (strangers) roam around in your house and trust them? Certainly not by signing up with the lowest bidder, although many times the lowest bidder may be Acme builders as they have integrity in pricing it as reasonable as possible. Anything cheaper than that, would mean cutting corners (cheaper material, shoddy construction practices, not-so-good laborers). Acme Builders can handle any project of any size/budget. If you need a reference, I am more than happy to put some senses into you about hiring Acme Builders.

He will handle it and you will not feel the pain. John will take care of your project and you'll feel that he's taking care of you, too. If that weren't all enough, John is a joy to work with. It really makes me happy to see him walk onto the project cause he's just such a GOOD GUY. Over the past year, John and his crew have done several projects for us including: repairing external and internal rot caused by leaking downspouts; installing beautiful new windows and repairing rot caused by water that leaked through the old ones; opening up (and later closing and refinishing) the ceiling to put in insulation and recessed lighting; and other little stuff, too, like hanging a new interior glass door. In addition to his excellent work and reliable team, John provides genuine caring and calmness to every project. He helped us stay within our budget by telling us what we could do ourselves. John and his crew truly care about getting the job done right, and obviously take a lot of pride in their workmanship. John is just a truly lovely person and great to work with. For another testimonial of sorts, check out the reviews for the cafe Local 123 in Berkeley. Notice how many people praise the space. John and his crew are responsible for that work, too. He had mentioned that he had done a job there and I checked it out for myself. It really is well done. I feel very fortunate to have had John and his crew work on my house.

TLDR: Cannot thank Mark enough for his help in a time sensitive situation!…read more We moved into our 1940s Alameda cottage four months ago, our first home! I run a floral business out of our detached garage. With daylight savings on the way, and a few, late nights ahead of me, I decided to finally change the flood light on the front of the garage which has been non-functional since we moved in. Anyway, in changing the fixture, I let the wires touch and short circuited the whole garage (I know I should have turned off the power first... I actually thought I had!) When I finished the job and went inside to our old knob and tube fuse box to try to turn everything back on... nothing worked. My husband and I fiddled around with it for a few hours, but the flowers in my cooler were starting to wilt and I needed help, fast. Enter Mark. I found him on yelp as a local handy man and called in a panic. He was out of town, but wanted to hear about what was going on anyway. He confirmed I just blew a fuse and after hearing about the age of our home, had a suspicion there was another fuse box outside the house that ran the garage. HE WAS RIGHT! There was a locked box on the side of the house that we had never investigated. I broke off the lock and discovered a fuse box! Flipped the fuse on, and voila. My day was saved. I cannot thank Mark enough for taking time out of his travels to walk me through this repair in what was, to me, a desperate situation. He demonstrated kindness, curiosity, and respect. I am so grateful!
