Once you start getting any tightness and discomfort, it's amazing how quickly it travels to another part of your body to cause havoc! Grace asked me a few questions in the initial consultation and then got to work. I liked the gradual technique she used on my sore areas, and the instant relief after she had finished. Piers are a seaside attraction and many have burnt down or been damaged. I was in one of the last…read moreshows in the theatre at the end of Skegness Pier. The show starred Lena Zavaroni and I won't forget the night one of my illusions went badly wrong, and exploded, burning my arm. I finished the act, came off stage, and fainted. The were introducing Lena and she refused to go onstage until the ambulance arrived. Many happy hours have been spent on here playing horse racing or slots on a rainy day. Skegness grew from a small fishing village into a Victorian watering-place within a few years of the coming of the railway. The Earl of Scarborough, the leading land-owner of the area, had helped bring the railway to Skegness in 1872. Four years later he helped form the Skegness Pier Company, with the intention of providing the town with a spacious promenade pier. The Pier company offered a £ 50.00 premium for the best design for the proposed pier and they received forty-four entries from all over the country, from which six were selected for further consideration. The design of Messrs. Clarke and Pickwell of Hull was eventually chosen, and Head Wrightson of Stockton were given the contract to build the Pier. Work began in 1880, and on Whit-Saturday 4th June 1881, the pier was officially opened amid great ceremony by the then Duke of Edinburgh. The pier had cost £ 20,840 to build: it was 1817 ft long with a deck width of 25ft. There were projecting bays along the pier at 120 ft intervals, four of them contained glass and wooden shelters, and there was continuous seating along the whole length. The pier entrance consisted of a large Gothic type archway flanked by smaller kiosks in matching style. An impressive flight of eight steps led up from the promenade to the pier entrance. The T-shaped pier head measured 222 ft by 122 ft and contained a saloon / concert hall which could seat 700 people. The pier's substructure was typical of the period, with screw piles and cast iron columns supporting lattice girders of wrought iron. Comprehensive bracing secured ornate columns to a line of centre piles. Heavy wooden beams laid out on the top girders supported the decking, which was made of Jarrah wood. Disaster nearly struck in 1895 when a small fire in the saloon was only contained by the quick thinking of the pier staff and holidaymakers. Disaster did strike though on March 21st 1919 when the schooner ' Europa ' went through the Pier causing a 150 ft breach. The pier-head theatre ( also known as the saloon or pavilion ) continued to be used for a wide variety of entertainments, with Jan Ramsden and his players being a firm favourite with the pier audience for many years. In 1953 East coast floods damaged the North-East corner of the pier-head and flooded the pier entrance, but no serious damage was sustained. In 1971, the pier entrance archway and shops ( which unbeknown to the pier company, were listed buildings ) were completely demolished and a large building housing shops, cafes and amusement arcades was built. At the same time the pierhead theatre was enlarged and the seating capacity was increased from 700 to over 1000. On 11th January 1978, Skegness pier along with the piers at Margate, Herne Bay and Hunstanton, was irretrievably damaged by a northerly gale with high spring tides. The pier-head theatre and Eastern shelters were left high and dry, surrounded by the wreckage of the remainder of the pier. The derelict theatre became the home for thousands of starlings and though it was designated as a listed building, it was considered a hazard for shipping and in October 1985 work began on dismantling it. Whilst this was taking place, the theatre caught fire and was completely gutted. A £5m development plan to rebuild 100 metres of the pier incorporating a new pierhead has been completed and holiday-makers and residents alike can stroll down the pier and enjoy the wonderful views along the miles of beach. During the summer months, the deck also plays host to a variety of traditional seaside attractions such as Hook-A-Duck and children's Carousel, the Big Slide and Bungee Trampoline plus many others.

Awesome Play Centre, tucked away but well worth a trip. The whole family can play together here…read more The slides are fab, they have foam ball cannons and a seperate area for the Under 4's. You can either have a general play session which lasts at least 2 hours (exhausting), they do birthday parties, parent and toddler sessions and they even have an Over 16's night every Tuesday. There is a cafe on site which has 5 stars from Lincoln Environmental Health and they serve a wide variety of reasonably priced food and drinks. Best in Lincoln!

This is a spa hotel just outside the village of Marston, just off the A1 and five miles north of…read moreGrantham. It's in a quiet rural location, although the flat countryside doesn't offer much by way of views. That said, Marston is a pretty enough village with a pub. The hotel itself is a sprawling, rather plain modern brick structure, surrounded by a large car park (a plus is the plentiful parking). The interior is similarly rather unmemorable, with a very small reception area, but a decent bar and several function rooms. My bedroom, in the far wing, was very spacious, and clean, but could have done with some pictures to liven it up. The bathroom was ok - clean, with a bath and shower, and nice complimentary shampoo, shower gel and soap, though the shower temperature control was very stiff to operate. There seemed to be endlessly plentiful hot water. The room had tea and coffee making facilities, TV and a hair dryer. The main downers were inconveniently placed sockets and an awful bed: a generous mattress topper couldn't disguise the fact that the mattress had a big dip in it and really needs replacing. (Those staying in the ground-floor rooms with level access, however, reported very good orthopaedic mattresses.) Bar and room service were good, and the buffet breakfast was also good, though the breakfast room can get crowded. The best feature was the very friendly and professional staff: some more targeted investment would improve things no end. Prices on the web are pretty reasonable so it would be ok for an overnight stay if you just wanted somewhere clean and quiet to stay.

Food in the restaurant is of acceptable quality although the staff like to pretend it's posher than it really is. A disappointing feature is tea and coffee from flasks in the morning that's just lazy! Good value for money a bit like a Trust House caught in a timewarp.

This was home to Guy Gibson and the Dambuster officers in WWII.Petwood was requisitioned by the RAF during WWII. In the latter stages of the War it was used as the Officers Mess for the famous Dambusters, 617 Squadron, who were then based at nearby RAF Woodhall Spa. (Now a few huts but open to the public and worth a look if you are interested and The Blue Bell Inn, an ancient roadside inn at Tattershall Thorpe, in addition to serving excellent ales and food, has Dambuster connections. On the ceiling can be found signatures of members of 617 Squadron.) In the grounds can be found a dummy practice bouncing bomb, as was used in the Dambusters raid. Inside the hotel, the Squadron Bar is dedicated to 617 Squadron and has memorabilia from the period. Over the bar can be found the branch of a tree. This was found impaled in the fuselage of a Lancaster. The memorial is nearby. Ok this is where you laugh at me. I was doing a craft fair here. At dusk I slipped outside and sat on an old table to have a cigarette. There was a long, high edge by me and a gap then more edge. Across from where I sat a man came. he had grey trousers on and a white shirt with rolled up sleeves and walking at his side a black dog. He smiles, winked and waved at me. I waved and smiled back. he went behind the edge but never passed the gap. I ran to the gap..no-one there. I went inside and told the barman and he said You have seen Guy Gibson. Most of the female staff have..he likes the ladies. I am adding to this for my guide to ghosts in Lincolnshire: A few years ago I was invited, by the RAF, to take my stall to the anniversary of the Dambusters Raids at the Dam in Derbyshire where they used to practice. Many old Lancaster pilots were there and chatted to me about their time in Lincs. One related a spooky story to me though not ghosts of the past.. He said the plane was shot up very badly..he was a gunner and only he and the pilot were still alive. He went to stand behind the pilot as they were lost. Instruments had gone. They saw a river below and rights on the right and realised with relief it was the Humber and the lights were Hull..almost home. Suddenly he saw a huge concrete structure dead ahead and they were about to hit it. He yelled a warning and covered his eyes. They had come through all this and were still going to die. Nothing happened. He opened his eyes and asked the pilot how he had missed it. The pilot had seen nothing. When they built the Humber Bridge, decades later, he realised that was what he had seen that night. The future! Guy Gibsons dog: At Raf Woodhall Spa itelf: A photograph of a group of airmen revealed a black dog standing at the end of the line up that was not spotted at the time by neither the photographer nor any of the pilots. It was later suggested it was 'Nigger', Guy Gibson's pet dog that had been run over a few months before. During the 1980s, a team of engineers working at night spotted a pilot in 'old flying gear' walking along a corridor. One of the team went to investigate, only to find that the pilot had disappeared. And finally: IN DAMBUSTERS FILM Sharp-eyed viewers may spot the ghost of Nigger running through the trees at the end of the film (where Gibson is talking to Wallis at Scampton) - no dog was known to be on the base when the film was made, so the identity of the animal seen on film remains a mystery.

They even looked around for a plug converter in the middle of the night so I could charge my electronics. We had dinner in the Dambusters room where right above the bar they have the actual tree that went through one of their planes! Sidetracked again sorry...OK the food was very tasty and the portions were just right. For breakfast you can stick with cereal, juice/coffee, fruits, pastries or you can also order eggs "your way." The rooms weren't small like most hotels in the UK so you definitely don't feel closed in. Plus they have WiFi!

The bar is quite small but I have allways been met with a friendly face, a smile and when the owner is there a lenghty chat about something. The dining room ouzes comfortable and classy again showing off the best in a dining experience allowing a party of friends and family to a romantic night out very special. A private dining area just off the bar is comfortable and allows for a larger group a little more . privacy. You get what you pay for and I have never been disappointed to pay that little bit more.

Rushmoor is a farm park with tea rooms - there are sheep, ducks, goats, horses and hens outside, and inside there are rabbits, owls, chinchillas, guinea pigs and all manner of small, scrabbly animals to keep children entranced. Rushmoor have a fantastic party room, which can be hired for a small fee, and they also provide party food from the tea rooms so it's an excellent venue for a children's party. Although the one we had there was blighted by near-constant rain! It's not really a place to visit when there's rain

My mum has taken my eldest daughter here on several occassions and loves the place (as does my…read moredaughter). It's very close to Louth, so not as far to travel as somewhere like Rand Farm, and its very reasonably priced. There are loads of animals to see and the people who run the farm are extremely friendly. My daughter actually fed the lambs on one of her visits and still talks about it to this day. I suppose its only criticism would be its smallness, but this could be considered a good thing too. It's a shame that more people don't go there to be honest.

It has a comfortable atmosphere, friendly and personable staff especially the father/daughter team whom we met on our oct 28th visit. Reservations recommended for the excellent food and wine. Well worth a visit! Then take a stroll around the beautiful church and grounds behind the pub. If you are an English native or foreign traveller you will enjoy this place!
