Its hard for me to give a real honest review of a normal night here. I was stranded nearby at the Holiday Inn due to a blizzard and this was the only place open for dinner. I made a reservation on Open Table and the girl at the restaurant said she never heard of open table. Due to the blizzard they only had two people working so the service was insanely slow. Thankfully they two working had great attitudes. They also had a very limited menu. 5 sandwiches to choose from, dessert was even limited to only cheesecake. When I finally got my chicken parm and fries I was very happy with how it tasted. That leads me to believe they have some pretty good food if I could only try the full menu. The manhattans I had were so so. But for $5 that made them taste a little better. I'd give 5 stars but really need to see the place under normal circumstances.

Surprisingly nice environment for such a small casino. We did not make a reservation on a Saturday, so had to wait 45 minutes. Not their fault at all, but just a heads up. Make a reservation! We had the pretzel appetizer which honestly was awesome. After that I went with the BBQ burger which was also good, but the pattie was definitely a frozen pattie. Overall the food was good, not Las Vegas level at all, but for Northern Iow I'll take it. My one major detractor is customer servive. The hostess was downright lost, and unaware of what was happening. The server was overwhelmed. My one huge recommendation is invest in some staff training. It's obvious from these reviews that this isn't an isolated issue.

Almost half of my "medium-rare" filet mignon.

This place is over-priced mediocre food. My filet mignon was so salty I couldn't even eat it and had to send it back. 20 minutes later I was served another over-salted steak and rather than medium rare it was part medium and part well-done (see pic). Definitely not worth the $40 they charged for an 8oz filet. And I should mention that I was planning to give the place a 3-Star review but then the manager came over and argued with me that it was cooked just fine and wasn't salted the second time. Unbelievable. What a disappointing experience.

We seated promptly even though we were a few minutes early. And our server, Heidi, took great care of us. You should ask for her if possible. Although everyone there was super helpful and attentive. Courtney also helped us. We had a couple of cocktails, which were delicious and affordable. They brought us a pitcher of water so we could refill our own water glasses, which was lovely because of the heat. They also kept my Coke glass refilled. We each had the Greek salad, which was fantastic! Great feta cheese, a little egg and pickle with a wonderful dressing. My wife had the petite fillet and a baked potato and she loved it! Her steak was cooked, perfectly, medium rare as she asked. I had the top sirloin and spaghetti. Mine was cooked perfectly medium as I requested and the spaghetti was something truly special. It looks so simple, but it is unique and amazing. You definitely need to try it. Look forward to returning to this restaurant tomorrow for prime rib.

Hungry in the Hawkeye State [St Ansgar IA]…read more After taking the self-guided tour at the SPAM Museum in Austin MN we decided to skip having lunch around the area and drove over the state line to Iowa and had lunch at this unassuming place called City Limits Bar & Grill. It was 21 miles from the Spam Museum to the restaurant. We arrived around 2:45p and the restaurant was surprisingly busy, the crowd was loud, various sports were showing on the flatscreens, everyone just having a great time. The waitress was busy but she single-handedly handled the crowd and the bar pretty well. On the way here we passed by seemingly countless rows of corn and wheat. When the waitress came to our table to get our orders we asked her what is a popular food Iowans like to eat. She pointed on the menu at the Old Fashioned Fritter sandwich. It is a center-cut pork loin, pounded and either grilled or dipped in their signature batter then fried. I ordered a 16-oz Bone-in French cut Ribeye. She said there are more cattle than people and the most pork LoL! They are also known for their steak. She wasn't lying... both the Iowa-style breaded pork fritter sandwich and the steak were delicious. It was just funny seeing the humungous pork tenderloin in between the bread and made the buns look tiny. The beef is so tender, juicy and flavorful. Looks like a popular place with the locals and visitors too with its warm, inviting ambiance and friendly staff. Review #3844

I enjoyed their burger with all the trimmings, and it was delicious! Loved their fries. Everything was perfectly cooked--good-sized portions. My Better Half enjoyed her Reuben sandwich. Judging by the subdued lighting, dark woods, and local themed pictures on the wall, they were right. There's actually 2 "rooms" to this place: the Restaurant and the Sports Bar, both with interchangeable offerings. After an easy downtown parking experience (maybe because it's off season?), we wandered in and were immediately seated in a nice big roomy booth. As I was driving, I skipped the beer and chose lemonade in addition to the day's special - hot beef sandwich. Dad had another lunch special consisting of moderate portions of soup, salad, and a half sandwich. We both enjoyed our orders, although my choice was a little heavier than I was normally used to. Dad's selections had a little more variety and color balance. Sevens is a neigborhood joynt that I could get used to if I lived here. There was much more on the menu than what I chose and the prices (usually ending in 7) were crazy reasonable. Our wait guy was also great.

We had a group of seven adults and a baby, and when I called late in the afternoon, they were able to accommodate us at exactly the time we desired. From the moment I pulled up, I had a good feeling. The exterior has that historic charm, and inside it's beautifully updated while still keeping the character of the building. We were seated in a semi-private room overlooking the dam, which made the whole experience feel even more special. The service was fantastic - attentive without being overbearing - and the food absolutely delivered. Our table ordered a variety of dishes, from the smash burger to salmon and rice, shrimp, steak, and even the French onion soup. Everything was spot on. And I have to mention the dirty martini with hand-stuffed blue cheese olives... incredible. Every single person in our group enjoyed their meal, the drinks, and the atmosphere. Ribeye was cooked perfectly. Poutine was on point. I would suggest adding the meat. It's a nice touch. Stuffed dates were incredible. I realize it sounds odd, but the flavors are a great combo. The only oddity about this place was parking. Be ready to parallel park on the street. Very odd parking situation.
