Personally, I always prefer to go to independent garages that focus on certain brands as opposed to dealerships. Bad experiences in the past have kept me away for good from dealers. I find you wait too long, pay too much and don't have a relationship with the person actually working on your car. Victor has a small shop where the focus is Honda / Acura. He patiently explains what you need and what you don't. He attracts a wide range of customers and does quality work.

These guys have been doing it for years, and understood exactly why it happened, and described he error code, symptoms and conditions to me. Chris who runs the shop, is one of the smartest guys I've ever met when it comes to transmissions. He's a young guy who's been doing this since he was a kid with having a shop in the family. I know a lot about maintenance and cars and believe me, Chris knows his stuff. His prices are more than fair. And probably the best you'll find for a full CVT rebuild. I had to bring my original job back to him because the valve body needed replacing. He said no problem, hoisted it again, drained all the fluid, and swapped it out. This is a good shop and anyone who has CVT issues I recommend coming here before they inevitably blow up. At least the older Nissan CVTs which had a design flaw which mine had. Without getting into detail, it's one of the pullies that uses tiny circle bearings. The bearing design causes them to fail after a few years and thousands of kilometers. When Chris rebuilt it, they used the knew upgraded design which uses proper metal sleeves to reinforce the ball bearings. I've been back once already just to check everything out, and he did it for me no problem and no charge.

Dave is a direct and a real genuine human in an undisguised mechanic body that will give your auto 'buddy' the right touch so that it's back on the road taking you from A to Z without having to worry, "Did they use the right oil, or was it Canola? Dang it! OMG, people without a vehicle at the moment do not know how lucky they are that the only thing they have to worry about is their presto card refills!!!" Like really people, we go through too much already to have to even fight this kind of battle!! You call this place up, already booking some days is quite tedious as their shop is humbly set up, enough for only a few vehicles at a time and the work is tediously done without the acquisitive approach on giving quotes on excess work you don't need at the moment. Honest and hard working, the place where our gas guzzlers get pampered in the hands of sincere mechanics. This place is not only close to home, but definitely close to my wallet when it comes to a quick oil change, maintenance all year round and expert advise on how to care for your lover on wheels.

Found this place on recommendation of Antica, the body shop next door…read more The owner Dave is very easy going and personable. Without an appointment he lifted my car to take a look at what was wrong and proceeded to show me, in detail (and plain english) what was wrong with my brakes, exhaust etc. I knew I needed brake and exhaust work, and all other mechanics I visited gave me a rough estimate without explaining how, why or what specific work was required. Dave was happy to have me watch as he inspected my car, and then gave me a very fair estimate. When I picked up my car the next day, the final bill was actually less than he estimated, plus he changed the air filter (something he noticed that needed to be done while he was working on the car) Definitely a positive experience with a trustworthy mechanic in Toronto. Not the closest most convenient location to me (I live downtown), but just north of Finch Subway station (either walk or bus). I'll definitely be seeing Dave again next time my car has any trouble, and will be recommending him to family and friends.

Visited this mechanic for the second time for the same issue (horn not always working)…read more First, I take back my assessment that Jimmy is "mechanic's mechanic". He was friendly with me on my first visit, but was rather cold on the second. When I said that I want to disconnect a theft-protection sensor under the hood (a common practice for Mazdas of this generation), he explained to me that it is not easy to do and told me to go home and do it in my spare time. - Well, why would I drive there in the first place if I wanted to do the dirty jobs myself? I said I also want to check the transmission mount, but he interjected that the next customer was already waiting for him. He didn't follow up if I wanted to schedule another appointment. Second, the wait times and punctuality. Both times I visited him I arrived on time. Both times I had to wait while he was busy with something else or taking calls. And that's another thing: he doesn't have a secretary, so he has to take calls which sometimes last 15 minutes. On my second visit the job (replacing the horn) took him about 15 minutes. Another 55 minutes were spent with me waiting while he was in his "office". Third, the sneaky pricing. On my first visit he told me the labor would be 70 CAD, on the second visit it was suddenly 75 CAD. And that's in addition to the 60 CAD diagnostic charge for this trivial problem after my first visit. All in all, I paid 152 CAD for labor alone for replacing a faulty car horn. Not too bad, actually, in Toronto prices. But, unfortunately, I will not be coming back with the rest of the issues my car has accumulated over the years.
