I remember capping off last year with a lunch at Woo Galbi. I was particularly craving Korean then so my boyfriend and I decided to try out the fancier Korean restaurant in Shangri-La.
First off, let me just say that I take my Korean food very seriously. Next to Japanese and Filipino cuisines, Korean is my most-loved food in the world. Although I'm not into very spicy foods, I like how the Koreans can manage to spice up their dishes without going overboard. It's also only with Korean food that I get to eat (and enjoy) my green leafy vegetables. I have also come to eat at an authentic Korean home-style restaurant when I was still studying in DLSU so my standards for Korean cooking is set pretty high.
Woo Galbi, as I've mentioned, is one of the more higher-end Korean restaurants I've tried, and for good reason. The dishes they churn out are authentic, definitely living up to my Korean liking. First off, I have truly and madly fallen in love with their Bibimbap. Although priced pretty steep (an order of Bibimbap costs about 400+ bucks), every single "bite" is worth it. Bibimbap is basically Korean fried rice - complete with vegetables such as carrot strips, lettuce and cucumber, fried egg, beef strips and a special Korean chili sauce. Oh my gosh, it's so good! It is, by far, my favourite Bibimbap to date. They just managed to hit the perfect balance of spicy and savoury. Haaay, just thinking about it makes me drool. You also have the option, at least here in Woo Galbi, to change up and customize your Bibimbap. You can trade in your bulgogi strips with salmon or choose a spicier sauce than that of the original bulgogi sauce. Whatever you want, however you want your Bibimbap - you call the shots!
I also got to try Woo Galbi's Korean Wraps! Locally known as Ssam, these Korean wraps are what keep me eating my lettuce. You basically just wrap up a piece of lettuce with yummy Korean beef or pork strips, rice and other vegetables such as onion, carrots, etc. Pick your sauce (I like mine Ponsu-style) and you've got yourself one of the best wrap-ups ever!
As I've mentioned earlier, Woo Galbi is a pretty expensive Korean restaurant. Each head should at least be ready to shell out 500pesos for a good Korean meal. Like other Korean restos, Woo Galbi also serves appetizers (but they're good for main course side dishes, if you ask me) and refills these twice. read more
