For those who lean toward the former approach, Adrienne Keith is a fantastic resource, not only as a lawyer but as a calm, steady person. She works in Collaborative Law as well as mediation, and is active not only in volunteering but also in writing an insightful, funny, sensitive blog about divorce and family law-related topics (http://splitsvillenews.com/). While I didn't technically utilize Collaborative Law (she provides legal divorce services other than just that process), Adrienne was so helpful in carefully walking me through each step of the process, always calm, professional yet warm, and perfectly prepared. I truly appreciated her attitude of non-combativeness and of working to find mutual solutions to sticky issues. Should you find yourself or know someone who's in the situation of needing representation through a divorce or family law issue, do yourself a favor and get in touch with her. Plus, on the way out of the courthouse she handed me a really thick envelope....When I got home, I opened it. A lovely bar, of bittersweet chocolate. What more can a girl want when she gets her old name back?

Andrew's warm, comforting and sharp demeanor instantly put me at ease during our initial consultation. He gave me confidence that I was on the right path and that I had come to the right person. My daughter's mother and I both have rocky pasts and there was a long and messy history to sort through. Andrew and Donna (paralegal) did an excellent job of helping me put together my case and were very responsive, as I felt like I had endless questions to ask and additional information to give. My situation was very hectic and there were regularly new twists and turns and they were tremendous in advising me on how to navigate through it. We got through our temporary orders hearing and Andrew helped me to get a great temporary parenting plan. The months that followed were no less stressful and Andrew and Donna both stuck with me and guided me through it all. This entire legal process was completely outside of my comfort zone and I had to put a lot of faith in Andrew. I trusted him to make very big decisions and his approach was always very thoughtful, intelligent and strategic. He did not let me down one bit. When it came time to go to trial, Andrew spent a ton of time working with me to get ready and went above and beyond prepping both me as well as himself for what was one of the most important events of my life. He was also mindful of the fact that my financial situation was not the best and did his best to work with me accordingly. Over the entire year plus long process, I felt like he was genuinely invested in my daughter's well-being and he proved that with how hard he worked for us. In the end, thanks to Andrew's excellent work and Donna's vigilance behind the scenes, I was able to get full custody and decision making, which was amazing as a single father with a past in Washington state. As I said before, my situation is ongoing and often tumultuous so unfortunately there will very likely be a need to work with them more in future. Should that need arise, I will go back to them with the utmost confidence. I truly cannot thank them enough for what they did for me and my family.

I was never even told to file for alimony or child support and I filed in July 2020, when asking for food stamps and on unemployment. She never even explained that I couldn't ask for that money back. In mediation she was a deer in the headlights, letting the mediator dictate the decisions, she didn't even have my financial spreadsheet ready when the mediator asked for it. I am a survivor of both emotional and financial abuse, she knew this going into mediation. I was forced to comb through numbers and produce while flooded with PTSD. I was unable to calculate the numbers, and that should have been her job. I was re-victimized during mediation. When I wrote Karin and Melissa the next morning, explaining that I needed them to be my voice, asking them why they froze up and why they let Cheryll the mediator dictate the decisions, and told them they didn't consider the mortage owed on my home, only the equity. They didn't even confirm the numbers used in his bank statement were not correct. Their firm is clearly not prepared for complex asset divorce, or dealing with women from domestic abuse and financial abuse. This has been a complete nightmare. I only ask for what is fair, and now I walk away with nothing but child support that can be overturned at any time. I hope no one else goes through this nightmare. I signed a CR2A after being coached by her and the mediator that I could stand to lose $100-$200,000. The next day in the morning with no distractions, and a calm place I look at the spreadsheet used in mediation and I see over a six-figure errors in their calculations that the decisions were based on. It was her job to oversee the financials, and understand how to litigate finances. It was her job to know divorce law, but instead she was quiet and let the mediator dictate. I asked her why the next day I said why didn't you advocate for me why were you sitting there silent, she said "oh well Cheryl's been doing this for so many years so I let her do it" she should have prepared me for mediation, it was her job to be my advocate when I was in the most vulnerable place possible. I was nervous as we lead up to mediation, she sent me and asked me questions literally for financials again after I already sent them to her only three days before mediation. I was expected to come up and produce during mediation, and it was the one day I really needed an advocate, I needed somebody who knew divorce law. It was clear she didn't as she sat there saying nothing. In mediation I asked her and her assistant Melissa, "please help me." Here I am scrambling for numbers when it was their responsibility to have the numbers prepared and have grit behind their global offer. It was a complete nightmare and still is. At this point I need help and going to the state bar to report the negligence and gross mathematical errors in the spreadsheet. She actually asked my exes attorney during mediation to update the spreadsheet's. She didn't even cross check the numbers? The experience was surreal, and it was a nightmare. It is still an ongoing nightmare because now I have to overturn what's been done. I am now seeking an attorney to take my case and overturn what has been done, and make this right. When I wrote her The next morning and to understand how she came up with the number so I could have a peace of mind, she used victim blaming. I will update this review again as I have submitted the glaring errors on the spreadsheet to her and the mediator Cheryll and have asked them to make this right. At this point I'm going to have to report her, sue her for what I paid her, fire her and then seek another attorney. This is the last thing I need as I am a single working mother. I could've got spousal support and child support this whole time yet she didn't advise me, and led me to believe I could have got it when I went to mediation. She did not explain that was something that I could never get back. She knew my fears going up against my husband. She knew the financial abuse that had gone on for years. She knew my emotions around this and that I was scared even to be at the mediation. No woman should put their trust in her for legal advice. Somehow someway I hope that I can overturn this, and get what's fair. I never asked for more than what's fair, and unfortunately I'm walking out with nothing.

That was the best decision I made during the divorce process. The other side created unnecessary hurdles, was non-responsive most of the times, and relied on bullying tactics. Mr. Hansen arrived at mediation equipped with all the pertinent documents and paperwork, equipment, and prepared arguments for my case. Mr. Hansen focused on application of the law throughout the process, providing great legal advice that saved me a lot of money and headache. His approach is very direct and matter of fact. I placed my trust in him and his paralegal. I began to wonder if I should in November 2022. In our first hearing - he did not file for child support properly; The Commissioner pointed it out. Steve told me later that he had always done it that way. Implying the commissioner was wrong. So, I asked when he would file again. Keep in mind. He knew my wife had left the family, I was working and raising 3 kids by myself. She was providing zero help. His response? 'you can't just file a motion for child support, it takes time and money.' Then later he told me that the reason he didn't file the initial motion correctly is that I was in a hurry, and he was trying to help me. So, our motion hearing March 2, 2023. Opposing counsel pointed out that Steve had not filed my financial declaration. Steve insisted that he had, that he had a receipt. But lo and behold, they were filled March 8th - 6 days after the hearing!!!! The hearing on March 22, 2023, did lead to an order for child support by my wife. There were several mistakes. He did not like being called out on them. In fact, when I asked why he had a hearing with my wife's lawyer to reschedule the trial he told me I was a difficult client. That his paralegal had asked him several times to fire me because I caused too much stress. When I was given my files - other client's information was mixed throughout. I am letting them know. When I asked for copies of emails Mr. Fields sent opposing counsel as I am now Pro Se (after Steve knew I was out of money he withdrew as my lawyer.) he told me he owns them - and would not provide them to me. I was billed over $30,000 by Mr. Fields and we had not gotten to mediation! I had asked him how much he felt I would need to have available to get through trial. I asked his paralegal several times for him to call me. I never received a response. Oh - my wife was directed to provide release of records. Steve and his paralegal decided to draft them. One big mistake - they had an incorrect birthdate, so I was charged several hundred dollars for records that came back with nothing. He told me that the birthdate issue was my wife's lawyers. No Steve - you included the originals with the wrong birthdate sent by your paralegal. I have them with your paralegals handwriting! There is so much more, and I am preparing a filing with the Washington State Bar Association. He knows. He didn't seem to care. Someone wrote that anyone looking should look elsewhere. I wish now that I had. Steve and his paralegal did a terrible job representing me and my children and he gave me the records to prove it. Steve did not prepare me for what to expect - wife filed for reconsideration and Steve was indignant when I asked him to explain if she could do that. Same when she filed a counter motion against my motion for child support. I never felt that he communicated with me as to what to expect.

Despite my extreme anxiety and stressful breakdowns through the 2+ year case, she was patient, understanding and supportive. Being in a marriage where I was degraded and abused for years, left me with zero self esteem and no conidence at all. I believed every awful thing the ex told me...( he'd get full custody, I'd never see my daughter again, he'd put me in jail for kidnapping etc..) I can't even tell you how many terrified tears I cried in the beginning. Step by step, with Kristen in my corner, I started to feel more secure and confident that I had finally made the right choice by leaving. While my ex made this a LONG drawn out process, Kristen kept me in the loop and as calm as possible. Two years later, I'm back to the strong, confident, independent woman I was before my miserable marriage. I know that I am a great mom and I've made the best choices for my daughter and I. I went from daily anxiety/panic attacks in fear of losing my baby girl, to laughing at the absolute ridiculous nonsense that my ex used to terrify me with. The first great choice I'd made in years was hiring Kristen. Even when I wanted to give up, she wouldn't let me. Even when I was willing to settle for less than my daughter and I deserved, she wouldn't let me. She fought harder for me than I would've even fought for myself. And everything she encouraged me to fight for was absolutely correct. My daughter and I are living our best lives and are protected and worry free. My simple words of thanks will never be enough.
