I had a bilateral laminotomy performed on two levels of my lumbar spine by Dr Wong on 12/21/18. I was 32 at the time. I have since found out that this procedure is extremley rare, if not non existant to be performed on anyone younger than 50. Adding insult to injury, Dr Wong wrote me off as a patient about three months after my surgery as soon as he discovered it was a failure. I have seen two spine surgeons since my surgery with Dr Wong out of desperation to just find out what is going on and both have said that there was nothing to operate on in the first place, and both were in disbelief that he operated on me. To make matters worse, I have not been able to return to work as a financial professional, or persue any activities that I enjoyed prior. Prior to surgery, I told Dr Wong that it was very important for me to continue to be active (snowboarding, fishing, hiking, etc) and he said that it would be no problem. I cannot do any of these activities any longer. I can barley walk around the block without doubling over in pain. I am constantly in excruciating pain, cannot sleep more than two hours a night and wake up screaming in pain almost every night, and I cannot sit for more than 10 minutes at a time. I never took prescription pain medication prior to surgery and I now require it to just get through the day. Dr Wong told me that I would be 50 - 70% better, and worse case scenerio no worse. I am much worse off after having an unnecessary spine surgery at the age of 32, and would strongly encourage anyone seeking spine care to heed my warning that Dr Wong may perform a surgery that is unnecessary and may screw your life up incredibly badly and you'll only be left with the pieces of what it was before the surgery that he recomnds.
Dr Wong gets paid for doing the procedure / surgery. He does not get reimbursed based on your outcome.
Also - forewarning: I called his MA Hailey on the day of my surgery because my insurance company did not have a record of his office checking for approval and she assured me that it was her job to make sure that everything was approved and if not it would be written off. Should have asked for it in writing, but went to hospital like an idiot anyway. I received an explication of benefit statement in the mail from the neuro monitoring company they contract with stating that I will possibly be responsible for around 12,000 out of pocket read more
