As such, I know a lot of different people in orthopedics, and therefore I have a number of great referral sources for various orthopaedic surgeons. Foot surgery disaster. Went in for mid foot reconstruction. I asked to not have my foot fused, he assured me "a couple if screws" and it would be good. Woke up after first surgery and 9 screws. 2 weeks later after my first check in appt, got a blood infection. Week in the hospital and another surgery to clean the incisions. Was doing great, healing up and one of the screws broke free and wanted to popup out of my foot. Third surgery, "they do that sometimes" . Healing up after that and start having a bone pushing down in the arch of my foot. This caused a sore to develop. Another surgery, "15 min on my table and it will take care of it" all these surgeries, the sore is back, i cant move my foot correctly and its not aligned right. sore is back again and I am looking for someone ti fix it right! read more

In seeking a foot specialist for a family member, we decided to consult Dr Hunt for a second opinion after seeing his positive reviews at Vitals.com. The operator had screened our efforts to schedule an appointment and noted the Stanford foot orthopedists/podiatrists do not cast orthotics, so as to weed out the non-complex cases. We were able to schedule an appointment for about 1.5 weeks later. Come appointment time, we waited about 15 minutes before being led in for X-rays, then a visit with Dr Hunt's physician's assistant, before consulting with Dr Hunt himself. Patient and compassionate, he explained what he felt was the root of the issue, offering surgical treatment, and answered all of our many questions, without a hint of annoyance or disdain. Dr Hunt was careful to clarify the pathology in simple layman's terms, which we appreciated. He also took the time to go through the X-rays and MRI on the spot, explaining the defects visualized. Dr Kenneth Hunt is the most exceptional doctor and surgeon I have ever known. My daughter was born with extra bones in her foot and other issues that at about age 8 caused her to limp and have considerable pain. I took her to all the top ankle and foot surgeons and podiatrists in Los Angeles. They tried conservative treatments none of which worked. Most said surgery only had a 50% success rate or worsened or misdiagnosed some of her issues. After years of my daughter's pain, and disability getting worse, I started looking outside of our area and found Dr Hunt who was well known for treating Stanford University Olympic athletes. He had just moved to Univ of Colorado as the head of Foot and Ankle surgery. I contacted him and was amazed by his direct response so we flew to Denver for a consult. He reviewed her imaging and took some new ones and told us he felt surgery could correct her problems along with physical therapy. Needless to say he was able to correct all the issues and defects! Dr. Hunt has amazing bedside manner! He understands the recreational athlete, and how important it is to get back to doing the activities you love. All other doctors I saw told me to medicate and deal with it (avascular necrosis in two metatarsals - one in each foot.) Dr. Hunt has a plan for getting you back to doing the things you love. He clearly explains all the options available and listens to his patients. I felt like I was finally in control of my destiny, and I could trust Dr. Hunt was honest about potential outcomes... but always optimistic! After seven depressing months of limited activity, pain killers, hobbling around on a walking boot, in tennis shoes (at my wedding), and driving with a wooden shoe, Dr. Hunt performed a small operation on my right 3rd metatarsal. One year post surgery, I have quality of life back --- no pain killers, no boots, no driving shoe, no clunky tennis shoes and orthotics during every day life. Most importantly, as every month passes, I get more relief, strength and hope that I will get back to doing what I love- distance running. I have already re-integrated all other activities. Dr. Hunt's staff went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable, pre and post surgery, with calls and questions for the doctor between appointments. Beware, however, of all the meds you get after and during surgery. I am petite and felt very ill after surgery from all the different pain killers. As with all exceptional doctors, it was not always easy to get an appointment with Dr. Hunt, but his staff always worked hard to squeeze me in as soon as possible. Realistically, surgery and chronic conditions will always alter how you approach athletics, but in the end, it creates better balance and appreciation for your body. My wife came here with an ongoing foot problem that it seemed no doctor was able to solve for several years. Dr. Hunt provided great service and diagnosed the condition and treatment that has greatly improved her condition and she is much more comfortable. I would have given 5 stars, but BEWARE. All their equipment (boots, splints, etc) are billed via a 3rd party provider. You have no control over this and you may or may not be warned (my wife was not). Some 5 months later we received a bill from an out of network provider (i.e we now have to fork out extra money because they are not in network). We were not happy and the office was unhelpful. They tell us to talk to the 3rd party, the 3rd party says to talk to them and the insurance company says to talk to both of them. None of them seem to care. read more

I was diagnosed with necrosis of my lower tibia near my ankle. I was going to Palo Alto clinic and seeing Dr. King. After having to wait 2 1/2 hours for Dr. King to come and say what I already knew, that I needed surgery I decided to find another Doctor. I was recommended Dr. Hunt at Stanford. He specializes in the foot and ankle. I noticed an immediate difference with Dr. Hunt in that he actually cared and explained the options and also what to expect. Because the surgery was going to be experimental or more cutting edge I also consulted with Dr. Goodman who did the same surgery on my Knee several years before. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the experience. Both Dr. Goodman and Dr. Hunt did the surgery where they implanted stem cells from my hip into the area of dead bone in my ankle. I didn't have any major problems afterwards, although I was on crutches for 6 weeks which was a pain in the ass. Every time I went into clinic I never had to wait long and the people were always nice. Dr. Hunt always makes it to point to ask if you have any questions. If you do he will answer them in a way you can understand. I felt like he actually cared, which was totally different from my previous experience. Also he is the Doctor for the Stanford Football team. I thought that was pretty cool If you are having any problems with your feet or ankles I highly recommend Dr. Hunt. He is great. read more

Dr. Hunt recently operated on my ankle after I tore couple of tendons. I got injured on a Friday and Dr. Hunt already saw me on Monday. He is extremely knowledgeable and explains everything very clearly. He took his time to answer any questions i had, explained what he is going to do, and clearly explained what I will be going through following the surgery. I saw Dr. Hunt for a routine bunion issue, the care i received was typical (lots of waiting) and and x ray. Once in the room he recommended PT and some topical ibuprofen. He seemed to think I was not at any great loss because I was unable to run. That said, I saw other doctors, and finally chose to have the surgery with another orthopedic surgeon (I'm running again :) . My great beef with this whole situation is the bill I received from UCHealth-- both other docs I saw simply charged me my co-pay, which seemed reasonable since I was only in the office for an hour or less and my insurance made of the cost of the X-ray. At this clinic my end charge was eight times my copay! Billed at a later date. We have a very typical and good insurance. Also when i had asked about out of pocket cost at the appointment, they would not give me a written estimate but assured me it would be typical of what I've experienced elsewhere. So beware, you may be paying more than you have to. read more

I'd been suffering for years with a nasty bone spur on my big toe. After one doctor wanted me to sign an arbitration agreement before he would even examine me, I gave up for a few years, thinking this was going to be the norm. Then after a Yelp search I found Dr. Hunt. It's now been about two weeks since my surgery, and I cannot compliment Dr. Hunt enough. In fact, the entire experience at the Stanford Foot and Ankle clinic was a breeze. Only wish I had started sooner. Finally, after 30 years of constant pain, I have relief. I have already mentioned Dr. Hunt to a number of colleagues at work, and would happily recommend him to anyone. Dr Hunt and his team have been very effective in the process of fixing my broken Achille's heel. It just took me a little push to get an appointment at the new Stanford hospital in Redwood city, but his nurse did a good job to call me back and squeeze me in dr Hunt's busy schedule. His intern was very friendly and Dr Hunt went straight to the point, still taking the time to answer questions clearly. He scheduled outpatient surgery for the following day. Again the experience went very well, anesthesiologists very friendly and effective. I didn't want to be put to sleep (less chemicals in my system is always better) and was laying on my stomach during the surgery that lasted 35 minutes. Dr hunt was even answering questions I had during surgery! I think I was released one hour after end of surgery. The nurse called me the next day to check on me and the anesthesiologist three days later to check the catheter that they left in my thigh. I m in recovery right now and I feel very lucky that Dr Hunt took care of my case. I realized that he also fixed my 5 year old daughter's broken femur 18 months ago, she doesn't even remember which leg got hurt today! It's like it never happened to her. read more

I couldn't recommend Dr. Hunt and the entire operation at the Stanford Surgical Center enough! I had torn ligaments in both metatarsals and was no longer able to run. He did the right foot in July and the left foot in November. Both with complete success! I will be running in no time! I had other doctors and most poeple in general tell me to hang up my running shoes. I sought out the best of the best and got it with Dr. Hunt!! And I should know - I've had 11 surgeries in my 49 years (born broken!) Be patient - it will take you a while to get an appointment. Hang in there - he's worth it!! read more

So far my encounters with this so called Dr. have been ineffective. He is condescending, has shown no ability to diagnose, and expects me to provide a diagnosis and then he'll follow my lead (or not). He comes off as a friendly, outgoing, "helpful" physician, but when it comes down to it, I feel like he actually doesn't know anything except how to perform surgeries when somebody else has provided the diagnosis. The only reason why I continue to subject myself to this lazy doctor is because I have Medicaid and he is the only foot and ankle "specialist" that accepts Medicaid. His superficial treatments for something that is much more involved (after three years of nonstop problems, it's almost embarrassing). Topical anti-inflammatories, NSAIDs, compression, PT, all of which I've done for three years. (Way before I started seeing him or year ago, it was two years into this problem) I have not been able to exercise for three years. I used to be a personal trainer and bicycle coach and recreational athlete now in my 50s. My life has changed dramatically and this man has done very little to help with my situation. I had to beg for arthroscopic surgery as part of a diagnostic approach where he was surprised to find copious amounts of bone spurs on the tibia and talus. There's a reason why one develops bone spurs and other growths like cysts. He won't commit to diagnosing the problem. And with all the research I've done this usually falls into one of four categories. On top of it and worst of all, he claims that I present with a new "complaint" every time I see him. When I hear this I want to punch him in the nose. Either he has a terrible memory when it comes down to writing his progress notes or he simply does not listen. When I told him that I've been recording our sessions, he was visibly angered and when he left the room, he slammed the door. Recording sessions is to benefit me because I'm trying to take in as much information as I can and also to keep this doctor and any doctor accountable. read more

I could not recommend Dr. Hunt and Stanford more highly. Dr. Hunt has a great bedside manner, he is friendly and genuinely concerned about the patient. The entire team is friendly and great to work with. I had bunion surgery, and it's been perfect. Healing well, and the Stanford experience makes surgery about as comfortable as possible! They are helpful, responsive, available, kind. I even got a thank you note after the procedure. Bunion surgery is not the easiest recovery, but if you're going to do it, Dr. Hunt and the Stanford team are really the best. (appointments are a little tough to get, but worth it to manage any minor scheduling frustrations). read more

Woohoo. Better than As good as it gets. Two radical surgeries on my first metatarsal joints bilaterally. At any rate I love this man and the whole orthopedic hospital. I ended up there with little or no hope. I am a runner and was told my running days are over. Well Dr Hunt got me to the point that I am 2/3 the way for a full rehab and running in 7 weeks. This doctor messed up my ankle with two unsuccessful surgeries (which usually are resolved in one surgery), and my ankle pain and condition is worse than prior to the surgeries. Everything he told me was wrong and didn't happen the way that supposed "expert" predicted. read more
